He lives in a small village called Westerdale, just SW of neighbouring larger village Castleton, great location! A bit further south here we fell to 0.8c and the missus' car had frozen over. We also had a nice inversion with fog/mist lower down. -

Been reading through York/Lincs threads from 2011/12/13 earlier today getting all nostalgic! Its amazing how many of us come out of the woodwork and onto this thread when there's a bit of white stuff about. Hoping to see the gang soon -

Today has been a lovely Autumns day, had our coldest temp of the season this morning at 5.2c. Headed to Scarborough early this afternoon where it was beautifully sunny but very chilly in the wind! We then went for a walk in the North York Moors to Mallyan Spout for the first time near Goathland (Heartbeat village) which is a hidden gem

Winter Thoughts & Hopes 2016/17
NorthYorksWeather replied to Polar Maritime's topic in Spring Weather Discussion
Personally I would like lots of brief cold snaps spread out throughout the winter, each delivering a nice amount of snowfall. Therefore never getting bored and always exciting model watching. As much as I loved Dec 2010, there wasn't any cold/snow early 2011 so a cold snap lasting around a week in each month would be lovely -
First Air Frost watch season 2016-2017
NorthYorksWeather replied to damianslaw's topic in Spring Weather Discussion
Temps generally down to 4-7c overnight across the region but one well known cold spot fell to 1.2c so almost certain of a ground frost here. Potentially colder over the next couple of nights especially Monday morning. -
Light winds across parts of North Yorkshire meaning the temp is 4/5c in a few places already. If the rate of drop continues surely we won't be far off freezing in places by morning.

Filey brigg September 2016
NorthYorksWeather replied to Allseasons-Si's topic in Archived non-weather Photography
A warm day at Filey Brigg? Well they aren't many of those a year I live 25 miles from there and visit the coast often during summer, love having endless beautiful coastline to yourself. Only problem is its usually 5c colder than where I live, as much as I love the coastline I dont think I could live there. Thanks for the pics and glad you enjoyed your visit -
We had a high of 13c and a low of 9c giving a daily mean of 11c which is the coldest so far this Autumn. Rained most of the day but only 2mm fell. If GFS stays as it is we could see the first air/ground frost since August in places on Saturday morning.

With your elevation you will be looking at needing upper 850s of -6/7c or below during convective events, the North Sea snow making machine really is a thing of beauty in winter. Its one of the bonuses of living in the NE but unfortunately the wind has only briefly come from that direction in recent winters. Even in Northerly topplers which mainly gives the wishbone effect, we can still see a dusting in places Heres a few snaps of the winter just gone with the snow machine at work. -
Good, get this pattern out of the way now whilst its of no real importance (snow-wise). Few spots down to 3/4c this morning, still no sign of a frost yet!

First Air Frost watch season 2016-2017
NorthYorksWeather replied to damianslaw's topic in Spring Weather Discussion
All very fascinating! We fell to 8c this morning, we are also exposed slightly to the wind here being on the edge of a hillside 30m above the River Derwent. Monday morning looks like another cold one, poss a touch cooler than last night so we may well see the first ground frost of the season in places. -
