6z GEFS Short ensembles for my location in North Yorkshire. Worth noting at day 7 both the OP and control are both quite slow at bringing on the cold air compared to many other members. Perhaps could see a quicker evolution to cold on this afternoons runs.

Good evening folks. On the 14th of January I will be heading to Dalwhinnie for a week with my wife and daughter for our annual winter getaway in the Cairngorms. We have been rather unlucky in recent years with snow having recently melted or arriving after we’ve headed back to North Yorkshire.
Keeping a close eye on the models at the moment as perhaps this year we have hit the jackpot. Hoping to take a weather station with me this year to keep an eye on the temperatures and contribute to this group if I see any exciting weather.
Here’s a picture of the house we are staying at in Dalwhinnie from the day we arrived last year with the previous guests snowman to greet us from the big dump they’d had the week before.

Quick look at yesterdays ECM 0z mean at day 10. Clear sign of the UK based high heading for Greenland.
Now a look at this mornings 0z mean for the same date but now day 9.
Looks like higher heights lingering around the UK for longer which just delays the retrogression towards Greenland a tad. Skip to this mornings day 10 mean and we have lift off with the high heading NW.
The retrogression signal is clear across all suites but let’s hope we can count this down into the reliable without any hiccups. Buckle up!

Been a bit wild over the last hour or so with mean wind speed reaching up to 32mph.
Gusting to 73mph over the tops of Yorkshire Dales.
Not a bad day overall only ended up with 1.2mm from on and off rain this afternoon.

Not bad early morning or afternoon but by eck it came wi heavy rain at around 10.30ish.
Working out Scarborough way again which looked to of copped the heaviest rain as wettest place was Hackness only a few mile inland from coast.
Looking at adding another 5-10 weather stations to my network before winter which will take me close to 50 stations on my network.
Here's a link if anyone can help a mad mans cause, thanks

Felt nice and mild today, a high of 21c at home.
Bit cooler at work in and around Dalby Forest and towards Scarborough, sheltered in the forest but soon came windy in any open areas.

After the early rain cleared away, wind rather than rain seemed to be the problem today, and really blowy this evening. Yellow weather warning in force for tomorrow, but again for rain rather than wind.
Talking of rain, I noticed that High Mowthorpe in North Yorkshire was the wettest place in the UK yesterday with 47.8mm of rain. I've seen Loftus on daily weather stats before but High Mowthorpe? I had to look it up, near Malton I understand. Must be someone there who is keeping official weather figures.
An amateur weather station just down the road from High Mowthorpe recorded 63mm on Monday, full months worth of rain in a day.
Below are some images of High Mowthorpe station.

Ey up I was in Dalby this morning. Wife was doing the 10k Forest run first thing so dropped her off and drove right through the Forest up to top bit and there was still a fair amount of snow left as you say. Forest was 3.5°C yet Pickering was already up at 9°C. Heading Hartoft and Rosedale tomorrow but I think it will be more wet than white unfortunately. You should see a covering on Moors first thing Tuesday morning I reckon from that back edge snow event, not sure about HLH but you won’t have to drive far up Blakey to find some hopefully.
