July 2022 Heatwave - 40.3c (All Time UK Record High Temperature)
Derbyshire_snow replied to danm's topic in Historic Weather
Was just so glad that it did not hit 43c that it was showing on some of the BBC forecasts i think it could have been a serious health emergency had that occurred. It hit over 40c on the local weather station just to the east of Sheffield and made really ill. What i will never forget is the searing gale force blasts of wind that made you feel like you was being blasted with a hairdryer it was horrible. Tempretures never dropping below 20c at night so no respite ot was horrible. -
Has to be up there with one of the most overhyped events in many years this time last week people aree talking about ice days and - double digit temps it is currently 3c and all we have had is a tiny bit of dandruff. Those that hyped it up must be feeling a tad silly given the hype they were making out like we were going to see Beast from the east Mk2.

Boxing day 2014 in Sheffield has to be up there never seen snow like it. It was like a blanket of snow and turned everything white seemingly in an instant and within several minutes there was cms of snow never seen anything like it.

It was hard to see much from the Heugh to North and South Gare due to the spray and size of the waves not often you see it like that. Dread to think how bad Arwen was at full power I didn't go out as it was 90-100mph winds on the Headland and it would have been sheer stupidity really.

Madness wasn't it took. My dad just over 4 & half hours Dronfield to Haaland to Heath M1 J31 then Upto Gleadless and down Bochum Parkway back to Dronfield he regretted that journey
-
I know I had to help friends and family I have managed to help them get back. My friend was worrying as she didn't know where to go. Luckily I knew the best way to try and that was go on to the Motorway at Heath and come off at 31 and to the back of Drake house retail park upto Gleadless then back down the parkway they made it home thankfully. Sheepbridge is flooded as well near the factories from what I saw on Facebook too so the roads from South of Chesterfield to Dronfield are pretty much impassable.

From what I know some of my friend ms are trapped south of Chesterfield and trying to get back North of Chesterfield and every route is blocked as far as I know.

Just shows difference 10 mile or so down the coast makes it was dry for most of day till about 3pm and nome stop rain since in Hartlepool
-
I can't get home and stuck up North because the roads around my area are all cut off so sad to see so many people flooded and their homes ruined. Soon as I saw the models I had a very bad feeling that it was 2007 all over again I hope everyone back home is safe. As for me well I made the most of if by going to Headland at Hartlepool the weather was Brutal to say the least there is some pictures and videos here In all the years I have been going to the seaside here I have never seen it this bad. It was too dangerous when Arwen was at it's peak when I was there last and it was 90-100mph winds and destroyed Crimdon caravan park. 20231020_075832.mp4 20231020_080130.mp4 20231020_120804.mp4

I don't know where you have got the plenty of direct hits from the vast majority of storms have gone around us as per usual. The most frustrating thing is you can guarantee for the most part they will go just 10-15 North/North East/East of Sheffield and so it proved to be the case yesterday. -

I would say so I thought I was seeing things at first definitely was lightning and echoes on the radar confirmed it. But as we know they usually go everywhere bar here. -
