  1. As I`ve never seen a winter with no snowfall yet 1991/92 the lowest I`ve recorded only had 8 days with either snow falling or either lying. Where as this one has had 14 days, oh I`ve included november there though on both. Hopefully March and April will produce a few inches to make up for it.
  2. Actually last year was very good just looked and there was 8 or 9 days with thunder heard with this being the best spanish plume for a few years giving some spectacular thunderstorms during the evening, thunder also in the afternoon for an hour. http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/20...00120070619.gif Nothing in May. 1998 only gave 1 summer day June 1st with just a few rumbles of thunder wow,May was better that year though with 4. 1999 gave 13 days. 2000 with 11 and all that including May.
  3. 1998/99 gave more snow too with that also a la nina winter should compare it with that year more with it being the 1st of 2 years. Cold zonality at it`s best in the late 90`s as good as it gets then, As this gave 3 inches with drifting from a SW-ly bizzare I know may happen early next week. http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/19...00119990117.gif http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/19...00219990117.gif Those winters gave larger more severe wind storms to this year also, but this winter gave much more settled dryer spells to then like december and feb with more frosts.
  4. Well think it`s been said this month has been unusual and that means it will be memorable for how sunny and those warm days great sunsets and the starlings doing there amazing displays also 1000`s of them Record breaking sunny actually but with only a cold snap at the beginning and refreshing a west/SW-ly to actually(Jan 31st) deliver snow showers, first day to bring the only snowfall which just 2 years worse for that that I`ve recorded are feb 1997 and 1998. Snowfall was the biggest dissappointment though. Better for frosts mind. Lots of ground frosts too and those welcome hard air frosts and 12 sunny 6 days of a warmer or milder to another 6 days colder with air frosts strange. 11 ground frost to 6 air frosts. And a very dry month middle 3 weeks which helped too.
  5. March 1997 was the only month here that not gave a single flake. Even the most snowless winter of 1991/92 gave a covering at the end of the month.
  6. Just been looking back at the last la nina summers and those were very thundery summers better than last summer by quite a long way with many more thunder days here and it more or less came in with a bang from this with thundery showers and a loud crack of thunder under the centre of the low I can remember that day too. http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/19...00119990602.gif The previous year 1998 was a very poor summer for thunder here though.
  7. Thats going to some extreme even April doesn`t normally get that high, last years was a one off at 11.2c which broke the record by 0.7c to 1943`s 10.5c Saying that March 1957 reached 9.2c  And there was a greenland high on the warmest days.!!! http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/19...00119570312.gif http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/19...00219570312.gif Otherwise 1997 was 8.4C I`m going for 7c just might be closer to the mark than my previous 2 months is one reason,it might end up lower instead.
  8. What do the experts think will happen during spring with this current La nina is it similar to 2000 of course it`s not going to be exactly like it by quite a way in terms of dates just a previous year to go by though of what could happen. This time 8 years ago nothing but a mild day. http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/2000/...00120000223.png The only wintry day during the rest of Feb here was this which gave hail, sleet and snow showers with temps around 1c above in the daytime with it close to 0c at night. http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/2000/...00220000228.png It wasn`t until March 4th when the next air frost came from a brief N-ly must of been snow showers in the north, nothing here. http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/2000/...00120000304.png http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/2000/...00220000304.png Then it was mild/very mild until the end of March with no more frost until the 26th ground frost, then a change of pattern with a high building just to the north giving a colder NE-ly with a few odd snow showers just a sprinkling with 3 air frosts down to -4c. http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/2000/...00220000328.png http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/2000/...00120000329.png As April came as a complete shock at the time with not seeing any forecasts aswell that was our winter for snowfall similar like last february was it gave us 9 inches in all with early blizzards and alot of the roads(lanes) were blocked also brought a tree down with even severe gales Had more snow on the 11/12th which gave a slight covering also with just a few snow drifts remaing by April 18th.
  9. Last January I had 4 air frosts and one at 0.4c This Jan 2 air frosts and 7 below 2c with 3 at 0c It seems the least Jan recorded below 0c here was 1990 with just one at -1c being the Jan highest min here. :o Plenty of zero`s though like 7 with this one of those nights, and 5 at 2c. http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/19...00119900127.gif http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/19...00219900127.gif
  10. Not today sunny here and quite low lying fog by the severn and as I went further north this afternoon it got more denser with some ice on the trees and grass in Oswestry, not sure what temps were but at a guess about 0.5 to 1c.
  11. It seems to be getting less in the valleys I`m noticeing in recent years, all this week is given is mist or thicker mist at best mind that`s from the continental dry air I expect this week, although they are getting fog further east it seems now. Mistiness by the streams also giving much more frost making it whiter. As TM said though we still get plenty of hill fog and this winter`s been good for that but december was the best eg of freezing fog for 2 winters here coming from an east wind and there was fog even on low ground which doesn`t happen very often as have way down the hill it thinned out. Had fog the other day also coming from the east as Teitis had sea fog earlier, it soon lifted into stratus next day though. Last summer gave hill fog at times too even rarer to see hill fog in July quite thick.
  12. I should of put the coldest day during that winter(1999-2000) in december was only 1 ice day all winter was 0.5c colder to the 3 ice days this winter here also 3 in december and one in January, now that looks better.
  13. So the last la nina winter like this year was 1999-2000 November gave no snow different to this one. Thought there was a similar pattern to that winter at times there was a cold snap or 2 in december then. This being the coldest night/day under HP and a max which was colder than the coldest day this winter by 1c. http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/19...00119991220.gif Had more snow that month also. Got an odd snow flurry in January literally  http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/2000/...00120000124.png The best feb gave in terms of frost at -4c old gauge, infact that was a very poor month overall did get odd days of wintry showers from the atlantic though like this winter infact http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/2000/...00120000220.png The first half of March only gave 1 frost and a hail shower But winter came in April big time with heavy snow and blizzards at 6 inches during this day to start with. http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/20...00120000403.gif April 1989 was another when winter arrived late with cold east winds and snow showers less snow to April 2000 though.
  14. What`s the warmest temp now is it 17c ????? Who`s left on the list.
  15. Yes last winter has been worse than this winter so far at least we`re getting colder air from the west this time which is an improvement. As for last febs very heavy snow we had 12 inches here last time we had had was January 1987 and I don`t think we had that much then maybe 10"(wish I kept records of the 80`s ) so that was a very rare event last feb except it didn`t last long enough.
  16. So far this feb is better than 1998 just had 1 light sleet shower on the 1st then and some snow showers on the 28th with a dusting and nothing inbetween. http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/19...00119980228.gif So far every day this month seen 4 day with either sleet or snow falling with a dusting, beating that year already just to make you feel better. :lol I wouldn`t be surprised that winter will come in spring this year with cold NW-ly snaps. Like what happened in April 1998. 6 inches of snow that gave with NE gales that day and drifting and very cold at 1c  after a very warm feb, I not writing this month off at all as it can change quickly, well HP will be welcome firstly. http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/19...00119980409.gif
  17. Last Jan had 4 air frosts with just 2 ground frosts. So far this time even less air frosts yet at 2 but with more ground frosts at 7. As for Jan 2006 had 5 air frosts and also 5 ground frosts.
  18. Nope the cold air didn`t really reach the south during that -5c upper westerly with 8-10c in the south. This weekened is interesting as with the exceptional mild upper air thats shown sunday upto +12c http://85.214.49.20/wz/pics/Rmgfs302.gif And surface temps the same or lower with cooler air shown to a few days ago, bbc go for 10-12c max with 4c min tonight in the SW which should slow the CET from rising as much.... 8.7c here now under sunnier skies and a strongish SW wind. http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rtavn3617.png http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rtavn307.png
  19. Mildest upper air temps shown since early december today at +9 in the south but max here was 10.8c in a SW-ly.
  20. Interesting. Looks like theres some slightly cooler surface air mixed into the high making temps look less mild than the uppers suggest and also lighter winds. http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rtavn1442.png http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rtavn1447.png http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rtavn14417.png
  21. http://www.xcweather.co.uk/ Storm force winds at Glen Ogle gusting to 110mph!!!!!!!
  22. Not going to be as mild as early december, 11.4c today but it is the mildest Jan day I`ve seen since 2003.
  23. It was great to see cold zonality making it work last week with 6 days I`ve recorded sleet and 3 with snow falling(very brief on one day)and 1 day settling giving a covering during that cold strong SW-ly on wednesday night into thursday. As for that december 2004 snowy christmas that was more of a NW-ly flow. I`ve been looking at this last night and January 1999 was even more S/SW with 3 inches with gave 2 days of hail/sleet then snow showers the first day then heavy snow showers with drifting followed by rain/sleet showers followed by a thaw with temps 1c higher to last wednesday 3c(average max) and the previous day shown here, but 1c lower at night to last week on 1 of these nights. http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/19...00119990117.gif http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/19...00219990117.gif And some places in the south had lying snow during friday with that S-ly tracking low aswell. Pity it`s looking so good for next week as the high in the south moves to the wrong place.
  24. Had a very surprising weather event here with a squall and a hailstorm at temps of 7.3c to start as they plummetted down by 3c in 30 seconds followed by now heavy snow in a strong SW wind and already got a covering on snow with temps now at 1.3c remarkable.
  25. August this year was cooler though at 15.4c, 2006`s was average after the record breaking hot July. And what about July this year at 15.2c the same as 1993. Since 1966 say there has only been 3 July`s colder 1978 at 14.8c, 1980 and 1988 both at 14.7c That actually makes it the 4th coolest July I`ve lived through after last years hottest.
