Had a gust of 47mph when the squall line went through. Wasn't particularly intense the rain here on southern outskirts of London.

I think Storm Franklin could be more notable for flooding issues than wind, 2 severe flood warnings south of Manchester near Didsbury. Numerous flood warnings across the N of England.

though winds will be pretty strong and potentially damaging again for N England, N Wales and N. Ireland in the early hours as centre of Franklin moves  SE over NE Scotland.

    Hi Nick

  2. Not posted on netweather for a long time.

Just got back from Wakefield and theres barely 3" at calder park. I have 11" on the bins now and snowing hard here in Darton, Barnsley. The showers look to be merging on the radar.

    Some say......

One of his legs gets longer when he sees a pretty lady.....

And that if he was going to issue an amber warning, he'd make sure at least 2cm of snow was forecast....

All we know is, he's called the beast from the east!

  3. I am likley barking up the wrong tree but the centre looks to be curve tracking further north than the modelling was suggesting. This can be seen very well on raintoday radar loop. Looking like the centre will track just slightly under Edingborough and glasgow. This also tells me the system has / is deepening a touch faster than predicted hence the arc on the cold front.

  4. Well, looks like a good chance to test out my new Inspeed Vortex anemometer this eve. Impressed with it so far. Update rates are sharp.

    0 to 7 mph... every 2 sec

    8 to 15 mph... every 1 sec

    16 to 25 mph... 4 times a second

26 to 45 mph... 8 times per second.

Spinner is mounted 12 M up on roof with 4 M roof clearence.

  5. Looking pretty nasty later on today and plenty of quiet weather to possibly give a sense of safety.XCweather has up to 68mph over north midlands early tonight

hi pit, just seen bbc breakfast weather, things have certainly shifted north a tad, we're more in the game now. This eve could be quite bumpy for west and south yorkshire.
  6. I've read it all now. Our neighbours and friends in the middle of a serious national crisis, something that is not only a tragedy but could so easily happen here and you lot are moaning about the lack of coverage for a winter storm.

You're an embarrassment to this forum. Grow up.

I don't have a problem with that, surely they can break for 2 mins or so for the weather forecast.

  7. yeah whats the world coming to. The news more interested in mass shootings an attack on western principals and the likely hood that this will happen again over here. Then a wind storm in the far north of the country truely shoddey journalism.

The thing that gets me more though is because of the live France thing they have dropped the half hourly forecasts. Tried 4 times now at five to and twenty five past the hour. I do feel for all those who have had their lives wrecked in France because of these two radicals though, really.... no need man. I'll send my mum round with a slipper, they will cry like babies then.
  8. After a brief lull the wind is now starting to pick up again over Ireland, the strong winds will be sweeping eastwards as the day goes by. Very windy tonight and during Saturday. http://www.xcweather.co.uk/

Hi Liam, yes a much more profound effect on north mids northward just round the corner. In fact the xcw forecast on the 06Z is a major upgrade for south yorks this eve and over night. Managed 52.2mph last night, nowt special but fun all the same. Rain imminent here according to the radar.

Major storm still showing for next weds eve too.
