  1. Criag, this trip is all about experimentation for me this year with my photography to try & push some new boundaries so cant give any new sound advice till i know what im doing myself & what works best lol. Best advice i can give is try to get your camera on a tripod at every shoot & use a cable release. Means your hands are off the camera & you'll aviod any camera shake & slightly out of focus & blurred images. Try out a few "test" shots to see what they come out like & adjust to avoid anything encroaching on the sides of the frame that may become a distraction. Just a case of taking a little time & thought about your shot & framing it well.
  2. Hey guys, will be good to see y'all somewhere under a messo lol. We're out in a huge white Chevy Suburban this year but as James isn't with us it's quite discreet & doesn't look like a porcupine lol.
  3. Hey Craig, soundtrack was a must lol & have been waiting for a chance to use it. Still got the rest of the month out here so maybe a few more timelapses & Prodigy to be posted yet
  4. Just thoght i'd share this link with y'all. Put all my images taken that night into a video programme to make a fast punchy time lapse, really shows the messo rotation as it passes directly over the top of us. Hope you like & turn up your volume lol
  5. Hey y'all this was our first chase day after landing yesterday evening & scoffing steak at the cow camp in Decatur. We left Decatur Tx this morning by 10am & headed up through Oklahoma & into Kansas, Our initial target area was Dodge city but that soon changed & we headed towards Witicha. We was aware it wsa going to be a late show & had an eye on the Baron as well as the developing cu. Moisture didnt seem to be as abundant as we'd hoped & agreed to get some food & a room at a motel in Junction City & hope we caught something after sunset & hope for some lightning. We'd just checked in & off to our south west a huge cell bubbled up in no time & headed straight for us. It was huge with evidence of rotation clearly shown on the Baron & as it got darker lightning became more visible. The next hour was amazing & was the best lightning i've seen for 4-5 years. We could see some sign of striations when the lightning flashed but not clearly, it was only when i viewed my images we can clearly see structure & some intersting shapes that went straight over the top of us. Couple of down days now & looking forward to Sunday & onto Monday which will no doubt end up being a pile of rubbish with all the hype it's getting so early on lol. Regards Peter Scott Pete@chasethestorm.com www.chasethestorm.com www.ukstorm.net
  6. Of course, i got to get my money's worth out of it
  7. Hi all, been a while since i posted here. Just had a storm go over about an hour ago. Short lived but very cheeky with it & produced 4 lightning discharges & i managed to catch 2 pretty happy with that turn round. The twin effect could well be an effect created by shooting through a double glazed unit & no the tower wasn't struck but i believe it was a church about 300 meters away. Damn it was loud lol. plus some Mammatus after the main action has passed by.
  8. Hi all, I was heading home to Brentwood in Essex , southbound along the A12 when a really dark significant lowering in the cloud base caught my eye. The overall cloud bases were a fair way higher than the tree tops but this base was sooo low i could only catch glimpses of it every now & then when there was a break in the tree line (like chasing in Missouri all over again lol) . I managed to navigate myself through to the back lanes & ended out at a village called Blackmore. I don't think I've ever been so excited in 8 years of chasing storms in the States than i was this afternoon watching this lowering sucking up scud & rotating at times like a merry go round, i only wish i'd learnt how to use the video option on my camera to get some time lapse. The first few images are embarrasing to say the least, in my excitement i neglected to check my settings & basically they came out black but i managed to recover them just, if i was shooting jpeg i'd have lost them but luckily they were done in RAW. Regards Pete
  9. Hey hey, that was a nice suprise to see. We were en-route to Abilene when we saw this beastie go up & spent some time shooting it with HD video & relocated for the lightning during the evening. Nice to get a little action at last lol. Maybe see you chaps tomorrow afternoon I'll leave you with some images from our distant location lol. Pete.
  10. Hey Ian & gang, just checking in to see what the score is for today's chase, really feel for you guys today/tonight after so much hope with the earlier synopsis but i guess that's stormchasing all over. Have a safe journey back south Pete
  11. Thanks Paul for raising this topic for me Steve, my thoughts are still the same now as they were back then, that was no gust front that hit us, i was watching the debris base come at us.
  12. OK, Steve storms is set up in clear air at the moment at Fannin county. Not a million miles away from Paul & team. Maybe they'll run into each other but i think he's going to push SE to miss most of the rain that's coming with this monster. Pete
  13. What a super night you guys seem to have had. If that's your first attempt at lightning then you've done yourself proud. Look forward to seeing more. Pete
  14. Very nice, 2 isolated supercells. You guys better hit the road. Pete
  15. WOO!! nice to see the faces of people on the tour Keep smiling troups. If your bored the northern monkey (Tom) will tell you plenty of stories including the famous Tarkio Joe Pete
  16. How very frustrating, the set up was looking pretty good for today. I feel your pain fella's. Hope you get something to see later tonight, maybe a light show. Keeping fingers crossed nothing goes crazy overnight & clears out tomorrows potential for you. Cam is great to watch, wish i was out there already *sighs* Pete
  17. Hey guys, great cam going on there. Any chance of spinning it round to face the interior every now & then to see who's in the truck with you? Oh & if Tom tries to video whilst driving just chop his and off Anyway, have a great season out there, am keeping my fingers crossed for you but please don't steal all the 'nadoes before i get out there on the 20th. Stay safe Regards Pete.
  18. Hey everyone. I stumbled upon a link that may be usefull to folk who dont subscribe to netweather's radar. From what i can make out the data is 15 mins old (not to shabby) & 1km resolution (pretty good) but the beauty of it is that it works with google earth (netweather team please take note!!). This is a really handy tool & is alot more usefull when trying to find locations & pinpoint towns/roads etc... Now if Netweather could get their act together & transfer there super radar onto google maps & maybe get gps to run with it that'd be such a heplfull advance for people who chase here in the UK. Here's the link http://www.raintoday.co.uk/ Regards Pete
  19. Hey all, just thought i'd share some of the photo's i shot on August 1st with you all. So yesterday was "showtime" as we headed into deepest darkest Mongolia, It took us around 3 hours to drive through some twisty turning mountain roads in a long coach, i couldn't help myself & chuckled at the thought of Micheal Caine & the italian job when their coach was ladden with gold & hanging over the cliff, it all seemed to look so familiar with the surroundings lol. After going through several check points set out along the road by the police we eventually managed to get to our destination with 45 mins to spare. Set myself up & adorned the silly spectacles that these eclipse chasers wear & i somehow managed to fit in quite niceley lol. 38 C in the shade but i was out in the open with no cover so it was boiling hot (guess thats why deserts are the way they are) & the first little nibble from the moon against the sun appeared, it was all systems go & the new video camera was fired into action & still camera aimed at the subject. Didn't have a clue as to what exposure or focal length of lens so wasn't expecting any great results. With 95% of the sun covered it dropped down into a thick cloud (only cloud in the sky i hasten to add) & with it my heart sank, so close but yet so far. After the poxy chase season in the States this had just managed to twist the final turn of the knife & i was ready to kick my tripod over & have a hissy fit & turn the air blue but all was not lost as the sun carried on getting lower faster than the cloud was moving & it dropped below the base with about 30 seconds or so to spare before totality. WOO HOO!!! I hope you like the pics, i know i have & cant stop looking at them
  20. i bloody hate work *sighs* would have been there myself had it not been for that minor inconvenience Paul the sea's were deffinatley higher than when i went back in December, was it high tide? are you still shooting jpeg you naughty boy lol. some nice captures though Pete.
  21. Rofl, hay Potty. honestl you're not missing much. James puts together a dvd also which is laden with the silly bits muic & therefore cant sell for issues of copyright but if there's a spare one nocking about i'll pm you. hows that, cant say fairer Pete.
  22. Hey Potty, great stuff really happy you enjoyed the dvd. Was a very intense season & lots of eye candy footage with quite possibly our best tornado chase to date. Had nearly as much fun watching it back when editing Still have some dvd's left if people are interested. Regards Pete.
  23. Hey hey a few months ago I posted a link to youtube showing some tongue in cheek footage that I’d shot whilst chasing in the States with Stevestorms & Paul Sherman when he was finished with tours. For anyone who missed it or needs a reminder here’s the link . Anyway I was so surprised by the positive response from so many people & enquiries, I’ve decided to make my highlights dvd available for the first time. This is a collection of footage I shot whilst out chasing the worlds biggest thunderstorms in Tornado Alley back in May 2007. *WARNING* The DVD does contain occasional strong language as emotions run high during tornado chases. The content has timelapse photography where cloud development can clearly be seen. Tornadoes, Lightning, still photography from the day's chasing & a 10 minute clip towards the end of the dvd showing a slow moving supercell thunderstorm in all it's glory .The natural soundtrack is awesome with the continual rumbling of thunder exploding & echoing all over the plains, you have to hear it to believe it. Run time is 52 mins long & is recorded in 16:9 widescreen format. The dvd isn't region coded & should work oversea's (dvd-r) However the price may alter with regards to postage. Here’s the painful part, after much thought & adding up of cost’s I’ve priced the DVD at just £7.50 plus £1 p&p. The highlights dvd does not contain the youtube clip but if you really like the clip & want it I’ll put it on another dvd for you at no extra cost. The main DVD is printed up & the case likewise. Paypal & cheques are the preferred method of payment , please mail me & I’ll pass you over any relevant details or if you have any questions. My direct mail is pete@chasethestorm.com Regards Pete.
