  1. Same in Bedworth, but seems to be heading due north/west, and just maybe 15 miles to the west of here. I think it's gonna miss us unless something develops later on
  2. Now you mention it, I've had covid three times now since the start of the pandemic, I've had three vaccines, and I've not had a cold in the past 2 years either? Either it's the covid that has done this, or the vaccine or both? Wouldn't it be ironic if covid finally cured the common cold? :-p
  3. We REALLY need the rain still, especially in my area, the soil just 6" down is still dust from the drought last year. This snow is good because, as it melts, it slowly seeps into the ground rather than just roll off the surface and down the drains. But I'm conflicted as I really want spring and the warmth to come back :-p
  4. got around 2" already round here, dew points and temperature are both -0.1'c so it's very marginal. Has it only just starting snowing for most people??
  5. Best snow for at least 4 years here. We ended up with 7cm, and although it's gone a bit slushy, it's only dropped to around 60% coverage. Both dew point and temp are at 1'c here, so it shouldn't take much to drop it back again to snow once the system starts to move south again
  6. i'm sure I remember a similar thing happening around 17 years ago, and I think it was you and me and some other who stayed up all night watching the radar on the BBC forum, only for it to miss us by around 10 miles?
  7. Well temps here at 3am 1.5'c Dew point 1'c And a tiny amount of sleet. Hopefully it'll be better later in the week, but usually here when it fails on the first attempt, it fails on the entire spell
  8. the annoying this is that tuesday last week under high pressure's influence, we had tons of showers piling in off the North Sea, but you can bet under the trough of low pressure next week, it'll be bone dry!! I really feel like the weather is broken atm, it just doesn't do what it used to do in all the books I ever read on weather (which was the entire library's worth). I 'dare' the weather to snow in my location and settle!! I dare it!!! ><
  9. considering we've had two years of zero measurable snow here, even seeing a few hours of the stuff would be Narnia
  10. The weather continues to take the absolute p**s Storm Juliette: Mallorca is hit by TWENTY INCHES of snow and 25ft waves | Daily Mail Online WWW.DAILYMAIL.CO.UK Mallorca has been gripped by a winter storm that is wreaking havoc on the Spanish holiday island, with 20 inches of snow shutting down roads and cutting off power.
  11. don't forget the first blizzard warning in Los Angeles in 30 years, just to rub salt into the wounds
  12. unless things really change, we shall be in drought very early next year :-(
  13. Speaking of 'la la land' it appears that Los Angeles is set to have its first blizzard for 30 years, and yet here we are, wishing we could even see snow falling! This has got to be one of the worst, most boring winters I've ever known in my 45 years on earth, we not even had a wind storm. And to boot, it's been so dry we'll probably be in drought again this summer unless it's a washout, but washout summers mean there will be some interesting weather, but seeing as we seem incapable of have that anymore, I don't hold out much hope!
  14. it would have to be, but as it stands, it's going to exacerbate the food production crisis in the UK and Europe
  15. Anyone else concerned about the lack of rain this winter, after such an awful drought last summer? I think the last thing we need is a high pressure or continental dominated regime where we stay practically bone dry, albeit very cold. We need March and April to be washouts to restore the deficit in rainfall, especially in the Midlands
  16. News of a possible imminent eruption of 10km3 of magma at the Askja volcano in Iceland..... very exciting and would probably affect the UK if this thing blows up
  17. you can tell how screwed up the weather in general is nowadays, we've just had an amazing red sky here, usually that would mean bad weather or rain on the way, but not nowadays....it's going to be the same weather we've had for 90% of the past year....boring nothingness. Even if it's sunny, it's still boring, boring boring! I feel sorry for the under 20s, who've not really seen what traditional British weather is like, even here in the Midlands.
  18. I take it due to the lack of posts, the dirge of boring weather is to continue?
  19. I agree with the OP. Here in the Middle Midlands, we used to get a lot of rime frosts due to freezing fog, but I think the last time we say a decent amount of rime frost was ten years ago. Even during the cold spell in December, we had a day of freezing fog, but it left no rime whatsoever and no visible frost, it's weird?? I do think something fundamental has gone awry with the weather in the UK, the old rules of weather that I spend years reading in old weather books in the library, that used to apply almost without fail, now fail 99% of the time, nothing can be relied upon
