  1. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-34379284 Also means there will be a huge space race to get people living up there. This is such an important discovery! up there with the wheel :-)
  2. Just a quick question. What would be the chances of frost in the HP next week? We still haven't got the heaters fixed in the glasshouses at work, so I'm being very attentive as to whether frost is forecast or not. Thanks :-)
  3. Can't be any worse than last year. We had one snowfall which settled for a round 3 hours and then it melted and was warm in the afternoon. Such a shameful winter. Let's all hope we can do much better this winter. And El Nino might be a help, like it was in 2010. Fingers crossed!!
  4. Very slight amounts of ice growth around the Russian side today. Nice to see this thread open again, I can't believe that I could have created such a monster the 5 years ago when I first created this thread :-) Long may it run!
  5. Aww thanks matey :-) I like how they don't form a traditional rainbow shape, it's more of a dome really, and they all seem to be double? Maybe the wavelength of light shows up the second bow more?
  6. Very interesting. I'd never seen one before, or even heard of it until now? ;-)
  7. Had an interesting 'red rainbow' today, just as the sun set. I've not heard of this phonomenom before? Sorry for quality, only had my phone. It was amazing though.
  8. i'll second that! We are always missing everything by just a few miles, snow is the worst!
  9. rumbles of thunder here, as well as explosive convection :-D
  10. Very sunny and warm here, (26'c) plenty of minor convection popping up! (excited!)
  11. Are the storms currently in France, suppose to migrate up to the Midlands? If so, we're in for a lovely summer's day.
  12. you can bet your life tomorrow we'll miss out on the storms due to a great swath of cirro-stratus killing convection, and denying us the warmest temperatures . I might even go for a long ride on my bike to try to tempt the heavens into drowning me :-P
  13. i have to ride 50 miles later on today. We're in the dry zone at the minute, but would bet 20p that the rain will be over me by the time it gets to 6pm! ><
  14. Well, as per usual, the rain band split as it passed over the middle of here, as per the post above ^^^^^
  15. Oh look! the latest radar has shown it reforming just as it leaves the central Midlands. Thanks a lot God!
  16. What the hell is wrong with the weather when it comes to rain/snow bands??? They ALWAYS split and go either side for the middle part of the Midlands and then reform the other side, before strengthening and dumping all their precipitation. And the MET office showed heavy rain, inescapable heavy rain, crossing the whole country. But yet again it's bone dry here! I'm starting to get really disillusioned with the weather now. It's been boring for over 3 years, literally nothing interesting has happened, not even frost! ><
  17. The smell of frost this morning was really strong. I didn't even think to cover some of the rarer plants at home and we just got a delivery of poinsettias at work, which will suffer for this cold! (if the met office had warned it might get as cold last night, I could have put the blow heaters on at work) So another time when we were failed to be told about a frost.
  18. Heavy rain here, nothing on the radar.....very. very odd!
  19. Any CG lightening? All I can see is sheet, but it's literally every 5-7 seconds!!! Fantastic!
  20. Everything goes around the Midlands, especially snow!
  21. Big, torrential downpour here just. Came out of nowhere and drenched my work clothes for tomorrow. God knows how i'll get it dry now :-(
  22. Because we're a much smaller area, with much heavier air traffic. There has been a massive increase in condensation trails over the Midlands and you can physically see storms and convection struggling to get going. It would be great to find some actual proof, but who's looking?
  23. Oh yes, i agree. The weather changed character completely in the summer of 2007, and it hasn't changed back yet.
  24. I blame it on skies full of cirrostratus, caused by thousands of con trails from aeroplanes. You just don't seem to be able to get convection like you did in the 80s, it's all stunted by lack of sunshine. Just another symptom of an over-crowded planet. We don't even get clear blue skies in summer now, just hazy sunshine at best.
