  1. There's been no 'drip drip drip' today, but the snow has simply disappeared here too, and we only got to 0.2'c above freezing, it's very annoying. And the ground is frozen solid too Been some precipitation developing just to the south and east of here in the latest radar, that looks very promising
  2. Is there a chance of something developing later on after dark, that hook of the front come pretty damn close to this region later
  3. Looks as though we may get some more snow drifting back north later today. Fingers crossed
  4. There's a trough just in Lincs which is drifting towards the central Midlands. Now that looks promising, reports of light snow in Nottingham
  5. Look at that lot to the North of Scotland, surely that will get pretty far south overnight, before it fizzles out?
  6. Looks a little more promising for troughs to drop south overnight as per the Fax charts, hopefully these will give us a slight chance of a dusting
  7. There's a chance. Some of the best snowfalls in the last 10 years have been ones which just appear out of thin air. Look at 2013, no snow was forecast one night, and then it just started to appear slab bang over us and gave us almost 7" here. If we don't get the snow, hopefully some nice freezing fog would do just as well
  8. I hope we can get a surprise snowfall before next week. In other years, we've had snow just pop up in situ in this sort of setup, and seeing as we're stuck under a slack low, you'd think there'd be a little more action? If not, some freezing fog please......that would be amazing, as we've not had any for years. But I suppose we're doing a whole lot better than last year's 'no snow no frost' winter?
  9. Well, let's just hope that something pops up in the short term and doesn't do a 2010 on us and leave us with a slight dusting. I'd at least love to 1" hoar frosts, they look just as good as snow sometimes
  10. that is always the case. It's been showers popping up left right and cantre all the last week, but as soon as the cold air gets here it's bone dry lmfao!! Oh well, so long as we get some lovely hoar frosts, i'll be happy, and you never know, something may turn up, but if it's anything like 2010, it'll be a dud , snow wise
  11. No worries matey I work for a charity looking after people with learning difficulties, and I only have to mention snow and a couple of people lynch me like I've just eaten a baby or something, it's always......... "why would you wish for that, don't you know how much heating costs and that the elderly will struggle to get out, and just think of the animals!!" etc. I always retort with "I hope to win the lottery too, but I guess you'd get angry with me for that as well? Do you think I'm a god or something??" I hope we have the coldest winter on record.....for the record!! I also hope that there is so much snow, that I cannot get to work 400 yards away
  12. Just remember Crewe, that yours and my loving bitter cold and snow, has no affect on the weather whatsoever, the weather will do as it pleases, so you can be totally guilt free, unless the other person is implying that you have a direct phone line to god and are asking him to make it cold.....then you should feel awful!
  13. We're going to be sat under a very slack low, surrounded by very warm seas, as it's early in the winter still. We#re more liekly to struggle to stay dry/snowless
  14. Especially as seeing the SSTs are so warm this year, the North Sea particularly, I think we may have quite a shock with snow amounts in some places (no doubt this area of the Midlands will stay practically snowless like in 2010, whereas just 10 miles away they had a foot!!)
  15. Depends on your definition of high expectations. Where I am, we saw zero snow last winter, so even falling snow would be a high expectation for me It does look as though everything is being nudjed further north, but we've also seen this plenty of times in the past, only for everything to nudge back south again nearer the event. Like most are saying on here, those bombing lows could scupper the whole event after a few days, or...... they could duck south at the last minute and bring in an eastery gale with blizzards and buckets of snow. Still everything to play for imo
  16. Could get some seriously cold minima with snow cover, cloud breaks and slack low pressure too! Could easily get down to -10'c in the Midlands
  17. Some nice streamers coming in off the North Sea, boxes well for convective snow showers next week
  18. The whole setup at the minute looks great, but we do have to be cautious and not throw tantrums when the charts don't show Narnia. This wobbling has ALWAYS happened and ALWAYS will, it's just part of model watching, and we have to take the rough with with the smooth. One thing is almost certain, we are going to have a decent cold spell, and we'll get a whole lot more snow than last year, because in my location, we had ZERO snow.......and that is something to whinge about, not what the models are showing. So, keep your chins up and your toys in your prams
  19. I hope that this is a much better cold spell than 2010 which, for here, had to be one of the most dissapointing cold spells. Okay, we did get down to minus 17'c , but we had just a slight dusting of snow whilst just 10 miles away, they had 1 foot! The only notable thing was a nice rime frost for a couple of days, but what's a cold spell with no snow? 2012 was much better imo
