  1. Not strictly storm related, but I absolutely love this type of weather
  2. Someone just posted this on FB Must be cold up there, which Alex deakin did mention in his deep dive Very cool! Literally
  3. We are indeed, it seems I've been led up the garden path again by the UKv, it's not the first time that's happened this year
  4. Just had an alert on my phone for strikes in north Dorset Plus we are getting some lovely skies here
  5. I think the showers start to track more west to east in the next few hours, my thinking Is this should bring more coastal areas into play, the sun might not have enough strength by then though. I'm hoping for some showers to form over the sea this evening, should make for some interesting skies
  6. I'm glad one of your kids was enjoying the storm and hopefully the other will grow to like them as time goes on unfortunately my two girls 9 &12 are really scared of storms, mainly because of one they witnessed last month while in France, before that they didn't mind them too much I was back in the UK so I didn't get to experience it, but my mother in-law said it was one of the worst she'd ever seen, so it must have been bad, I'm gutted that I missed but even more gutted it's traumatized both my daughters
  7. Look up Nikon Z9 Pre buffering Even better, here's a link https://www.nikonusa.com/en/learn-and-explore/a/tips-and-techniques/photographing-lightning-bolts-with-the-z-9-pre-release-burst-mode.html
  8. I think Nikon have released a camera that is constantly buffering in the background which is almost perfectly suited to photographing lightning, when a bolt appears in the frame you just have to press the shutter to save the image I honestly don't know how I feel about it as it seems like cheating, but then again we are delt a crappy hand in this country with the amount of storms we get, so it probably evens it up a little
  9. Agreed with everything you said, and I would never have guessed you were shooting on entry level gear, you photos always look amazing, but I guess the proves your point!
  10. Yeah, I shoot mainly with my Canon EOS r which is more in the enthusiasts range, but any entry / mid range camera should enable you to shoot lightning A decent tripod, shutter release Cable and patience is all that's needed, the photos that I and many other people post on here are the ones that turned out ok, but the reality is that most of the pictures you take are either devoid of lightning, or have been ruined by some other factor, wind shaking the camera, rain on the lens, forgetting to turn off image stabilization (you don't want this on if shooting on a tripod) or going to the wrong location, which is all part of the fun of shooting storms. Oh and the most important thing of all..... You need a storm to photograph in the first place It's a painful hobby most of the time, but well worth pursuing
  11. The Morning after the night before, and what a night it was! I feel like most of the areas that were lacking storms over the past few months will have gotten something last night, but most importantly, for everyone else that visits this thread, you won't have to listen to us lot in central southern areas complain we haven't had a storm this year I'm sure they'll be some that still haven't had a close encounter yet, but as last year proves, it's possible to get a good storm well into October, so have faith as you never know what can happen. Yesterday will go down as one of the best days for storms that I personally can remember, waking up at 4am and seeing the storms over towards Weymouth was a great way to start the day, then there were more storms late morning, before the cherry on to which was last night. 2023 storm season condensed in the one amazing day, I'll take that!
  12. This is one serious specimen. Can't believe how good this is. Well worth the wait!
  13. Nice one, I'm glad you managed to get something, it might even be one one that passed to the east of me
  14. I'm so happy for everyone that's getting a storm this evening, we all truly deserve it Here's a couple I managed to get off the camera Next round incoming by the looks of things
  15. I've just seen a nearby flash but I can't tell where it came from and the winds really picking up. Could get very interesting very soon
  16. Definitely, it's not worth putting myself and others at risk over a photo Good thing is I can see cloud forks out to sea
