  1. Just seen a big bolt come down over near Poole unfortunately Missed it with the camera though And one much further out to sea more south of Bournemouth
  2. I have a feeling that lot is going to push more north/northeast but I could be wrong Edit, that first statement was poorly worded, obviously that lot is going to travel in a north-easterly direction, but I think it will affect areas further west than what you mentioned in you post.
  3. Was that for the first lot that's already gone through or the expected second round that Lance has alluded to?
  4. its getting quite gloomy out there, we should be able to actually see the lightning soon
  5. Sheltering in the boot of the car is probably the best bet unless more durable shelter can be found, I stopped by the over cliff carpark in Highcliffe and it was quite windy, which makes me think that sheltering in the car will not give good results from a photography point of view there's also a chance to catch the partial lunar eclipse but is not going to be easy, I believe last Mays storms also coincided with a lunar eclipse, could be a good sign Good luck if you do head out!
  6. I was literally typing the exact same thing Its pretty grim out there though, I want to head out, but with this cold wind and rain I'm struggling to get motivated
  7. The rain here in Christchurch is crazy heavy but nothing remotely electrical happening even though it looks impressive on radar
  8. Same here in Mudeford, sat in the car waiting for it to pass, the camera is at the ready just in case as you can't let even the smallest chance pass you by after this years big letdown
  9. Lovely, I was looking at the radar and thinking there may be some lightning for a few people
  10. I think it's fair to say that nothing will come of this lot, I wouldn't rule out the odd rumble of thunder but I think it's going to decrease in intensity as it pushes east, which is probably a good thing as the next week or so is looking quite wet, not great for areas that have suffered with flooding.
  11. Who's keeping an eye on that front coming up from the south? I've seen a report of thunder in Devon and I can see a few showers forming just off the south coast
  12. I'm hearing some nice loud crackles on the radio, nothing showing on lightning maps though, I wonder witch cells are responsible? The heavier stuff out in the channel is still going strong but nothing electrical appears to be coming out of it. If it continues on its current course it's going to hit somewhere between Bournemouth and the Isle of wight. But it's all very uninspiring and I'm not expecting anything exciting but I love to be proven wrong
  13. Just a wet mess here in Christchurch, it's looking quite dark to my east though, I wouldn't be surprised if somewhere north of here gets something as it looks like it's still developing
  14. Yes, I'm wondering if my wish of storms lasting until later in the evening will materialize, or will they die off before they even get near us, judging by the the current radar, we might have a decent shot of lightning, and maybe not too far from sunset! I'll be keeping a very close eye on the radar, and camera at the ready just in case!
  15. I couldn't be placed any better going off the map you posted, obviously things won't pan out exactly as shown but nice to see regardless What are your thoughts on timings? It looks like the majority of the activity will be this afternoon which is the worst time as I'm at work until 4pm, I was hoping there might be something later on this evening, I get the feeling things will be dying down by then.
  16. Nice to see there's something showing on the models, just checked the Google weather app which shows storms for tomorrow afternoon/everything
  17. For those interested in sprites and attempting to photograph them, this is a very good video outlining best practice for video and stills
  18. Great find! So it appears that there has already been a UK capture of sprites, and they appear to be reasonably bright which is a surprise for me as I've always thought they were very faint, when in fact they look to be almost visible to the naked eye. A new weather phenomenon has been added to the list of things to photograph, it could be a long wait
  19. I'm sure I posted this a while back but it seems like a good time to repost for those wanting to learn more about sprites
  20. It might be worth trying to get a picture of sprites over over Northern France, how far are away do you think someone would need to be, and what kind of equipment would be needed? I can't imagine any standard Digital camera could capture sprites apart from some Sony bodies along with a good prime lens, the images on sony cameras are usually very clean even when cranking the iso all the way up Too costly for me to switch now but I probably would go Sony if I was just getting into photography
  21. Photographing sprites in the UK will happen one day but I feel that any super bolts that do occur will be few and far between, especially in winter, so it'll take some serious dedication to get that shot, and I'm not sure how far you'd need to be from the storm to give clear view of the of the cloud tops and that's before you take into account that it will probably be cloudy in preferred locations further north, maybe the French will have a better chance This was taken in Dordogne! 22. Yesterdays storms were a welcome surprise for many folk on here but nothing of note other than a few rumbles of thunder affected my location, however these late season storms we've been getting are great to see, and I wonder if there will be further convective events to come, especially following this weekends brief warmup, definitely keeping my fingers crossed I've also had a chance to go through some of the shots I took while away in France this summer, and have found a few that I'd somehow missed. I'll also be posting a few more over on X in the coming days
  23. It's amazing how such a innocuous looking cloud can produce a pretty decent looking funnel, lovely capture!
  24. Not strictly storm related, but I absolutely love this type of weather
