  1. Slate grey here, and has been since around 12pm, the UKv looks like it's already a little off with the amount of rain pushing out of France towards CS England, so all bets are off
  2. Eagle Eye it looks like the first of the storms had developed over France and like you said, I hope that all the energy doesn't get used up before reaching the southeast! Good luck for later
  3. This is the Basingstoke cell, nice Edit, it's growing nicely, only a couple of minutes between shots!
  4. Thanks for the updates Eagle! It's nice to see some early action this year, with today's potential and what was observed earlier this week, it's been a pretty good start to the season I'm going onto this evening not really expecting anything, and if anything does develop it'll be a bonus. Either way I'm totally prepared just in case. Ps, is it too soon to complain that the we have to wait an hour longer for it to get dark? Good luck to those that have a chance.
  5. I knew there was going to be some convective activity today but I was under the impression that any storms that developed would be much further west, gutted I wasn't paying attention as I could easily have got to a decent location. Oh well, I did send the drone up for a brief look, not a bad looking storm for march YouCut_20240327_193142229.mp4
  6. Good luck Sprites, hope you manage to see something, It's clear here but I can't bring myself to go out as it's pretty chilly out there, and with an almost full moon to contend with, I don't fancy my chances of capturing anything from the south coast, Monday could be a great opportunity though, only problem is it's looking like it will be cloudy. So Many flares recorded today and one was X class, Keep them camera batteries changed. Sprites This is interesting though
  7. These were from last nights Aurora display Unfortunately it was too cloudy to get a proper view, but any display that is visible from southern England is a win if you ask me. MVI_3264~2.mp4 MVI_3263~3.mp4
  8. These were taken this evening in Knowlton, Dorset. Unfortunately cloud ruined the spectacle but I managed to get a couple of brief time lapses in and the quality is not the best. it still amazes me that we can see the aurora this far south. MVI_3264.mp4 MVI_3263~3.mp4
  9. The Tall Weatherman Those pictures are really impressive! I'm thinking heading out somewhere that's dark enough and has a decent enough views to the north/northwest. The weather isn't looking too bad in the coming days so I'm predicting a few late nights in my immediate future Found this posted on the comet watch Facebook group, captured on the 02/03/24 Absolutely stunning!
  10. It definitely is, someone In Ivybridge has posted a video that looks to be more snow than sleet, if you are on Facebook have a look at the southern UK Storm chaser page Anyway, the points I was trying to make originally was that I've heard a lot of people on here over the past few days who are worried about the lack of snow showing up or lack of, now Granted it's definitely going to be difficult getting anything early on in the cold spell, but I can recall numerous occasions where certain areas have had some really good surprise snowfalls that materialized at very short notice usually because of a streamer or a minor trough that the models failed to pick up. I'm sure come the end. There'll be some very happy people on here.
  11. Not long now until the 18z start rolling But just to reiterate the point about precipitation and whether it's going to be of the white variety or not. I would suggest everyone go and look at the Netweather radar. I don't recall anyone mentioning sleet down south this evening! Get the cold in first and the snow Will follow!
  12. Looks like your post from yesterday was on the money, great shout! The 12z have been amazing across the board so far, we just need the ECM to make it a full house
  13. Absolutely, almost every cold spell has some last minute surprises, once the UKV and other hi res models come into play this is when you can expect to see small scale features show up. Certainly not worth worrying about snow for now, let's just get the cold in first!
  14. Incredible images! I would love to see something like that. Roughly how cold was it at the time? I thought diamond dust formed at really cold temperatures but obviously this doesn't seem to be the case, and your YT video captures is so well! Nicely done and thanks for sharing.
  15. In the 17 years that I've been visiting this forum, 850 temps have always been referred to as "uppers" I get where you are coming from, but uppers have to start somewhere, there are more than just two levels to the atmosphere!
  16. Yeah, luckily we don't have any tall trees next to our house but the neighbour opposite us has one huge tree right up against theirs, I'm keeping all my fingers crossed for them but my god, it's already taking a beating Hopefully this doesn't become another Michael fish event, I'm sure weather forecasters said that one was going to affect France and Spain more than the UK and we all know how that turned out
  17. The wind has noticeably increased here in Christchurch in past 10 minutes and I'm definitely hearing things being blown about! Even though my phone barometer is not calibrated, the pressure drop in the 22 minutes between these screenshots is quite impressive
  18. How accurate are mobile phone barometers? this is what I'm showing on my phone at the moment. It was at 975.2 about 5 minutes ago! it's undoubtedly not as accurate as a calibrated one, but it's fun to see it drop in real time.
  19. Yes I can confirm, was just leaving the range and heard something, I wasn't totally sure if it was thunder at first as I was in the car but I'm pretty sure it was
  20. F 7.1 which isn't too bad, I had the Iso a bit too high though To be fair I had only seen a couple of flashes towards Poole which weren't nearly as close or as bright as the one I captured but I wasn't set up in time for them
  21. So it looks like my area is done for the evening as far as lightning is concerned, but I wouldn't rule out one or two rumble's in the early hours as there'll be a few beefy showers knocking about out in the channel This is the shot I took earlier Definitely a case of what could have been! And to anyone under, or to the east of the main band of rain, it's definitely worth keeping an eye out as I've seen quite a few flashes from various cells as they were passing, hopefully it will become more organised as it keeps pushing east Good luck folks!
  22. It's stopped now and I expect this to be more of a southeast event which is inline with other forecast that have been put out. I managed to get the bolt of lightning in frame but unfortunately it was so bright It's totally blown out the picture. I don't think there's anything to recover. Fingers crossed for something else later I'm sat on Barton on sea cliff top and I can see that swanage has just disappeared so they must be some heavy rain out there. Hopefully a few bolts of lightning too Overexposure warning you don't say!
  23. Oh yes massive bolt just came down south of Bournemouth!!
