There is a chance, as GEM shows, that the Atlantic upper troughing / surface lows disrupt more and slide SE against the cold airmass over the UK weekend of 20/21st. UKMO looks like it could head down that route too after t+168.

Not a great deal of support from GEFS postage stamps. But still time for changes towards Atlantic trough disruption. But the return of westerlies weekend of 20/21 looks more favoured for now.

Snow event looking likely for parts of Scotland and perhaps N England on Tuesday, as that low that forms south of Iceland in the arctic flow tracks SE towards northern Britain. Also snow showers for far north and coasts exposed to the N or NW Flow. EC has snow event back on the menu for S England Weds/Thurs next week, GFS a near miss, UKMO and GEM well south over France. Could be more back and forth on this front, though suspect it will end up south of S England.

Cold all next week, but away from the north, can't see a great deal to get excited about if you want snow, unless the low off the Atlantic tracks further north than suggested. I see the 'but features can pop up at short notice' comments, but nothing to suggest anything popping up other than the Channel low threat for now.

Potentially the perfect set up for us here in Jersey then. Although as you well know, being a little rock 9x5 miles surrounded by sea currently at a barmy 10c, it's very touch and go. As long as the air across the continent is cold enough and we tap in to an E to SE feed, it's game on :)

  2. The clean up operation here in Jersey is now well underway, although several of our lanes remain impassable. No doubt our emergency and public services (who truly are doing an amazing job) will continue working well into the weekend.

Another walk with the bulldogs this morning delivered these images which highlight just how quickly the weather can change ...

This is extremely serious stuff down i the Channel Islands probably the most frightening night on record I’d think. This link shows a full bore tornado

Indeed. It's been terrifying and continues to be so. Unconfirmed reports on social media stating that Jersey Met has just recorded our highest gust so far of 100mph (surpassing 96mph in 1987) and a 9 to 10 meter swell is due to impact our shores in the next hour or so coinciding with a 10.1 meter tide. We are being battered. Not good.

Unconfirmed reports of injuries sadly, google earth shows this part of the island (Princess Place) is particularly populated. Residents being told to shelter downstairs as emergency services are struggling to cope with both this incident and the weather as a whole. Quite a bad situation.

Let's pray they stay unconfirmed ...

I get it is.. especially with your daughter as well...fingers crossed you'll all be ok...but seems just the start. If it does get worse tape your windows like they did in the war

Let us all know how you get on

Will do and thank you 👍

How are the winds now in Jersey showing quite sustained high winds now...how is it live?

The wind has been steadily intensifying during the last hour or so. My daughter and I are currently hunkered down in our lounge but dare not venture outside as there's a constant howl, bellowing gusts and increasing crashing and banging. A truly uncomfortable situation to be totally honest.

I actually didn't think a tornado could form on island as small as Jersey

Neither did we. We've never experienced anything quite like this before. Waterspouts are a fairly common occurrence but not tornadoes. In fact I don't think we've ever experienced a tornado here.

Holy Heck, that's a fair sized Tornado for the British Isles if I ever saw one 😲 hopefully no injuries or worse reported.

No injuries as yet thank goodness and yes, our thoughts exactly, especially on an island 9 x 5 miles.

Got a video on twitter as well damage looks serious. And i've just realised they have still got the actual storm itself to come so not sure how TORRO investigators will be able to assess the damage there.

Any idea of the author of the video?

    Yes. Have DM’d you 👍🏻

In Jersey, what a beast of a storm.

    Could contain:

It sounded like someone punching against our front door.  Lasted five minutes or so as Christian stated. Wind dropped and now starting to increase again. This is intense to say the least.

  12. Both East bound and West bound dual carriageways are currently closed and heavily sandbagged along our South Coast in St Aubin’s Bay together with the main slipway at West Park in preparation for the morning high tide which is now of major concern ...
