  1. Looking good for tomorrow! ...British Isles... The frontal system of a mature cyclone, which parks itself just off the Irish West coast, crosses these areas from the Southwest and looks capable of sparking a round of maritime convection. Insolation and diurnal warming are expected to create one or two hundred J/kg of CAPE in the warm sector, where also deep layer shear is enhanced (15 to 20 m/s) underneath the polar jet. While the bulk of a strongly helical flow will be placed ahead of the warm front, still veering wind profiles (100-200 m^2/s^2 of 0-3 km SRH) and some low-level shear (~10 m/s between 0 and 1 km) will probably persist into the warm sector. Showers and thunderstorms in this environment may turn into multicells and low-topped supercells with a chance of small hail, marginally severe wind gusts and maybe an isolated tornado. The threat is maximized over Southern England and in particular over Wales, where persistent upslope flow and a possible convective line along the trailing cold front may additionally cause excessive precipitation. A level 1 was drawn in order to reflect this combined threat. Vertical wind shear is much weaker in Ireland in the vicinity of the vertically stacked low pressure system, which might result not only in locally excessive precipitation but also in the formation of a few funnel clouds or even landspouts. A threat level does not seem to be necessary, in particular as the center of the low pressure system remains offshore. http://www.estofex.org/
  2. Hey legritter, any more news on this coming Monday? could we be in for a storm?
  3. Thank you, have bookmarked it. A good website!
  4. EMERGENCY flood protection measures were being taken in Tewkesbury last night to ensure there would not be a repeat of the 2007 disaster. The town was placed on alert as the Environment Agency set up an incident room to monitor rising water levels of the River Severn and Avon. http://www.thisisglo...tail/story.html It's also been reported that some parts of Gloucestershire had lightning! I didn't have any though. Let's hope Tewkesbury can cope with this imminent threat of flooding. Wouldn't like to experience the floods of 2007 again that's for sure!
  5. Anything for Gloucestershire heading this way? and the midlands and Wales of course? you lucky lot down South grrrrrr
  6. Could anyone tell me please whether any of these storms will push up to Gloucestershire? lol

  15. Skywarn has a warning out and so does netweather for tomorrows potential. Netweather- http://www.netweather.tv/index.cgi?action=forecast;type=alerthome;sess= Skywarn Last Update: 1400UTC Tuesday 24th April 2012 SKYWARN UK SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH #014 ISSUED: 1400UTC TUESDAY 24TH APRIL 2012 (GJ) SKYWARN UK HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH FOR THE FOLLOWING REGIONS: ENGLAND WALES CHANNEL ISLANDS IN EFFECT FROM 0100UTC UNTIL 2359UTC WEDNESDAY 25TH APRIL 2012 UNSEASONABLY DEEP LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM SWINGING INTO THE SOUTHWEST, BRINGING A WELL-SHEARED OCCLUDING FRONT AND POST-FRONTAL INSTABILITY WITH INTENSE PRECIPITATION. THERE IS A POSSIBILITY OF SEVERE WEATHER AFFECTING THE INDICATED REGIONS IN THE TIME PERIOD SPECIFIED. THREATS WITHIN THIS WATCH INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: HEAVY RAIN...STRONG GUSTS...FLASH FLOODING...FUNNELS/WEAK TORNADOES...LIGHTNING DISCUSSION: THERE IS STRONG MODEL CONFIDENCE ON THE POSSIBILITY OF A SEVERE CONVECTIVE RISK THROUGH TOMORROW. A LOW PRESSURE ~972MB DEVELOPS FROM THE SOUTHWEST INTO THE CENTRAL SOUTH OF ENGLAND DURING THE MORNING. AHEAD OF THIS, A RAPIDLY OCCLUDING FRONT COULD BRING RAINFALL ACCUMULATIONS OF UP TO 40MM OVER A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME ACROSS SOUTHERN ENGLAND AND WALES, ESPECIALLY NEAR TO COASTS. A STRONG LOW TO MID LEVEL SHEAR ENVIRONMENT EXISTS AS 850MB WINDS OF 50KTS ROUND THE CIRCULATION UNDER UPPER DIVERGENCE AND STRONG VORTICITY AS THE CYCLONIC JET NOSES UP FROM THE SOUTH, PROVIDING AMPLE DIRECTIONAL SHEAR AND DYNAMIC FORCING FOR ORGANISED CONVECTIVE ELEMENTS THOUGH INSTABILITY IS INITIALLY LIMITED TO LOW TO MID LEVELS ALONG THE BACK OF THE FRONTAL ZONE. WITHIN THIS FRONT, MEAN WINDS OF 40MPH WITH CONVECTIVE GUSTS UP TO 60MPH ARE POSSIBLE, ENHANCING RAINFALL, ALSO ACROSS HIGHER GROUND FURTHER NORTH IN ENGLAND AND WALES LATER IN THE PERIOD. BEHIND THE FRONT, A DEEPER BUT ONLY MODERATELY UNSTABLE ENVIRONMENT WILL ALLOW FOR SUBSEQUENT ISOLATED CONVECTION BRINGING FURTHER LOCALLY HEAVY RAIN TO SATURATED AREAS. THIS COULD BECOME MORE ORGANISED ALONG CENTRAL TO EASTERN PORTIONS OF SOUTHERN ENGLAND, UNDER INCREASING DLS OF UP TO 30KTS THROUGH THE AFTERNOON; WHILE SUFFICIENT LLS EXISTS ACROSS THE WATCH AREAS FOR BRIEF FUNNELS AND WEAK TORNADOES. THIS WATCH MAY BE UPDATED OR UPGRADED. PLEASE MONITOR WEATHER AND TRAVEL INFO AS NECESSARY. SPOTTER ACTIVATION IS REQUESTED AND SPOTTERS ARE REQUESTED TO REPORT ALL FACTORS EXCEEDING ACTIVATION CRITERIA. http://www.skywarn.org.uk/current.html
  16. Seen quite a few yesterday on a country walk I think they were house martins.
  17. Oi you!!! it aint me that scares them off, it's the cheltenham/Glos storm shield grrrrrrr Yes, I seen this tweet, one can only hope Lol
  18. Yes, according to my daughter, a thunderstorm has started in Cardiff.. fingers crossed it heads over here.
  19. Good luck all TORRO CONVECTIVE DISCUSSION 2012/003 A TORRO CONVECTIVE DISCUSSION has been issued at 1115GMT on Friday April 20th 2012 Valid from/until: 1115GMT-1900GMT on Friday April 20th 2012 for the following regions Parts of (see map) S Wales S England Midlands and E Anglia THREATS Hail to 1.5cms diameter; gusty winds to 50mph; CG lightning. Large upper cold pool with minor short wave troughs rotating around it covers the UK. Once such shortwave is rotating across S England. Diurnal heating combined with larger scale ascent/cooling upper air from shortwave is allowing showers and thunderstorms to develop. With fairly low freezing levels and steep low-level lapse rates, heavy hail of up to 1.5cms diameter is possible along with gusty winds. Low-level shear is generally rather weak so whilst a brief funnel/tornado cannot be ruled out due to steep low-level lapse rates, storms are more likely to be outflow dominant. Forecaster: RPK.
  20. I reckon Tewkesbury has the storms Calling Tewkesbury, anybody on here today from there. If so do please let me know whether you've nicked them lol
  21. For anyone with NW extra radar, put in GL51 and look at the bug*rs surrounding me. They are heading northwards grrrr
