  1. Surprisingly snowing here in Thornton-le-Dale, North Yorks (not much above sea level). Wet, but settling. The Moors will be getting a pasting
  2. Attached is the euro4 model for 6pm tonight. Here in North Yorks and indeed many areas of Yorkshire are getting smashed with showers - and the North Sea still looks great. Just goes to show the models are not always the be all and end all. Nothing like a good bit of nowcasting!
  3. Shower activity seriously pepping up in the North Sea. East Ridings and North Yorkshire bearing the brunt (we’re getting lots of showers pushing through into Thornton Dale), but also pushing into South and West Yorkshire. This could be a great 24 hours!
  4. http://www.real-whitby.co.uk/lion-inn-blakey-ridge-20-foot-snowdrift-traps/ (article about when the Lion inn at Blakey ridge was cut off for 9 days) I’m sure it’s been posted in here before, but a great read nonetheless. A warm up for the upcoming week!
  5. BBC iplayer (make sure you have a free account). Click on channels. BBC1. Then scroll back to 7.20ish.
  6. What are people going for as their par for snow depths, by the end of this cold spell? I’m going for 1 foot here in Thornton Dale! ?
  7. Yeah, wouldn’t want to be in Whitby right now. Their snow chances are stuffed from the outset :-)
  8. Wow - that was a seriously impressive Countryfile. Even without any frontal snow, Yorkshire gets smashed by continual snow showers Tuesday - Thursday. Friday’s low could be epic!
  9. Absolutely, if you could pick anywhere in the country to be for the upcoming cold spell, N Yorks would be one of your first choices!
  10. Here’s a screenshot from the Wunderground Weather app. It links together people’s home weather stations and provides a great temp profile (across the world). Has a radar layer as well, although I think Net weather’s radar or rain today is better.
  11. Good news for Yorkshire for Tuesday based on the latest gfs run. The showers are more widespread than previous runs and will push further inland. Let’s hope this shows up in future runs and more importantly in the euro4 model.
  12. Surprisingly, thick wet snow in Thornton le Dale. At least and inch on the ground.
  13. Those of us in North and West Yorkshire would obviously would love to see a northerly shift in the modeled position of the low. However even a time 0, we've seen many times before unexpected snow in places. We are still in this!
  14. Showers really starting to pep up in the North Sea over the last 1/2 hour. East Yorks could see a few more beefy showers!
  15. Showers in the North Sea look to be pepping up slighty. Perhaps a few more showers moving into E Yorks on a northerly flow.
  16. Yeah great snow shower here in Pickering - best of the winter so far! Shame it's all but passed. Unfortunately the showers off the east coast of Scotland don't appear to be making much inroads south!
  17. Yeah, fingers crossed! There appears to be some fairly hefty showers behind the initial blob, all on a similar ark.
  18. How wrong I was :-)!! Yeah, scrap that. There is a definite westward ark. Leeds is looks great! Just hope the conditions suit for it to fall as snow!
  19. Would love that heavy blob to ark West towards the Leeds area, but in all honesty, can't see it arking enough. Areas in and around York look to be in the sweet spot right now!
  20. Anyone kind enough to post the latest NMM precip models for the next 12/18 hours?
  21. On my mobile, so will keep it brief. Can report that here in Leeds city centre the temperature has fallen nearly a degree to 0.6 .C in half an hour as the precip has got heavier. Looking gd!
  22. Could have used any of the models for this, which all show a very similar picture. The precipitation for (West) Yorkshire was never modelled to hit here until 9ish and even then, not to be particularly heavy. The precipitation is due to pep up and stall overnight, with 1pm Monday still modelled to have heavy snow for most of Yorkshire. Although forecast, i truly believe that this event has been underestimated by the BBC et al !
  23. http://www.wunderground.com/wundermap/ Can't post the screen shot, but take a look at temperatures in the precipitation further south - East Anglia etc. Clearly evaporative cooling is reducing temperatures as the heavier precipiation begins to fall. My point being - don't worry if your temperature readings are looking a little on the high side. They will fall as the precipitations hits! Everything bang on track as per the latest models. Reckon this is going to be a good one! My 100th post in 10 years as a member - I don't like to rush things!!
  24. Absolutely, the precipitation predicted by ALL the latest models for Sunday night into Monday looks really positive for all of Yorkshire. Yesterday the front pushed in from the Southwest and hence Western areas did much better. However, the front tomorrow is pushing in from the (South) East and Yorkshire will do very well for snowfall! There is a very simple dividing line and this is highlighted by the latest models - those East of the Pennines will do very well and those to the West won't do as well! Right - I'm off sledging :-)!
  25. Adam, please look at the latest precipitation charts from the GFS and UKMO and say what you see! This latest 'non event' has delivered a couple of inches to Leeds city centre and much more to elevated areas and parts of East Yorkshire. Your constant whining on this thread is really starting to grate! Fair play if the models were showing drivel, but they're not! The next event Sunday night looks potentially more potent for some areas of Yorkshire than yesterday's snowfall, followed by another possible significant event on Tuesday. Please stop lowering the tone with your misinformed, pessimistic moaning!
