  1. Just started snowing here, SO much earlier than predicted, that low is really moving! Gonna suck down some more from Scandinavia in its wake perhaps??
  2. Can I please ask a 'Punter' question Kold? (so I can at least explain to my kids!) How come we (North Kent Coast) have been right under the system since around 4 am (looks like we should be buried from MO IR Sat pics!), but haven't seen anything fall?? :-(
  3. Hmm, so Manston read the forum??? ;-) http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/se/...st_weather.html
  4. Been snowing solidly for well over two hours now, over 1 inch on the ground, Manston Met Off Weather Station (which I can usually see from here) 'Latest Reports' on the Met Off site give just 'Low Cloud' all morning! Hmmm. VERY low I'd say, lying all over the ground in fact!!! LOL
  5. Been snowing here for one hour now, varying Heavy/Light/Mod, varying types too. Depth approx 1/2 inch.
  6. North Kent Coast, Sea Level, 1 mile South of Reculver. 12.22 Heavy Snow, blowing from North for 20 mins now, laying on all surfaces!
  7. 11.46am Thurs 3rd Jan 08 Steady light snow here (North Kent Coast - Sea level - 1 mile due South of Reculver) moving in from East.
  8. Snowing heavily here (at sea level!) since 5 am ALL laying, 2cm's already (sposed 2 be 2-5 in total for us) and we're meant to have another 4 hours yet!!! Fingers crossed.
  9. We've had snow of all types throughout the afternoon here on the North(East) Kent coast. The best came mid afternoon, when it was almost 4 deg C, yet huge fluffy flakes were drifting down. The heaviest has just finished, but even though its 1 deg C it has only layed a little as it was quiet wet. However as we're at sea level and close to the sea, I would think these could be better as they roll inland? I wasn't up for the 'six inches' the met office were giving out last night as the cloud cover just didn't seem to be there in the North Sea. Tonight they're saying nothing... but I liked the look of the cloud coming down the North Sea this afternoon... http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/satpics/latest_uk_ir.html ...until the wind just turned from NE to WNW :-( Lucky Holland?
  10. Light graupel shower followed by wet snow shower at Reculver (North Kent Coast) now clearing. My Son has just called & reported that it's snowing in Ramsgate.
  11. Thanx Brickfielder, that might indeed go part way to explaining it? However, by 'bouncy' snow, I didn't mean pellet like. The snow that fell on and off all day (at 7 degrees!!! in showers on an otherwise sunny day) was small and light, blowing about in the wind, and not even melting on the bonnet of the car at 5pm when I was queueing for the Blackwall tunnel.
  12. I've seen some weather I've never seen before today, so wondered if anyone on here could explain for me? Last night (just after midnight) the temp here (sea level, North Kent coast) was 2 degrees C when the front hit. We got around one minute of snow, then heavy rain. Today, I left for London in Brilliant sunshine, temp 6 degrees. Within one mile the temp was 7 degrees and I was in the middle of a blinding snowstorm! The snow was horizontal and really cold (bouncy not sticky!) and blowing about. I was soon back in the sun, but all the way to London and back I saw regularly 'cold/bouncy' snow at 7 degrees!?! Can anyone explain to a Rookie how you can have good 'real' snow at such high temperatures? Thanx T :-)
