Yes Nouska, it is ash. Both from eruptions and also drifting in the wind. Some parts of the country have volcanic desserts so the ash drifts easily in the wind and covers the ice.

Nice photos Moki! I could just about see Teide from the plane last Wednesday as it flew to the east of the island.
