      I've been on holiday in central/southern parts of France in the past and I don't think the shorter daylight really matters- it is more than offset by the warmth and lack of wind during the evenings. Sitting outside in the dark at 11pm has its cosy elements too!

      I guess when you live in a high latitude country all your life you don't want to give up the long daylight hours - I know a guy from Cairo, expat from Canada, who loves tropical climates but loves the polar daylight hours too.. sadly he won't be getting his way!

      I'd happily live somewhere in the tropics in exchange for shorter daylight - the storms look better at night anyway!
