That's right. There is too much noise and pollution in Manchester

  3. This is great news and it can't happen soon enough! Way too many people on this planet polluting and exhausting its resources.

Hence the need for better education and the subsequent empowerment of women in developing nations, to make their own decisions.

Why don't we let COVID-19 run riot then? Isn't COVID-19, mother nature's way of trying to curtail a species?

It is very very cold clinical way of looking at it.

Surely there is quite a difference between letting people die and choosing to have fewer children?

I’m not looking forward to the heat either and can't understand the feverish wish to see 30++ breached all the while. Surely a nice calm warm day in the low 20’s would be enough and far more sensible.  I so wish this wind would b**ger off as well, I can’t get the umbrella up over the summerhouse come cat pen to help keep the fosters sheltered from the damn hot sun ??

My main PC psu decided it had had enough after 12 years. I'm on my reserve pc for the time being and trying to get to grips with why my cloned ssd wont boot.

  9. If only this weather could last all summer! Slack low pressure over the country, plenty of sunny spells, plenty of afternoon showers and thunderstorms, comfortably warm but not sweaty. Just perfect!  You can stick the boring high pressure where the sun doesn't shine! ?

  11. Two Atlantic tropical storms and the hurricane season has not officially started yet. Busy season to come!

    1. Rush2112

      Rush2112

There's quite a few predictions for this season, l wonder how many will make landfall, last years storm Dorian seems like only yesterday.  Lack of aircraft data may have an impact on warnings, but we still have satellite imagery. Interesting to see how many storms 2020 brings, it's been very much an unprecedented year for events so far.  Hope you have been doing ok.

    2. karyo

      karyo

Hi @Rush2112, yes whether they make landfall is very important. Last year the Gulf of Mexico failed to produce anything significant despite the warmer than average SSTs but with enso values turning negative I expect more activity in the Gulf this time. Spring and summer are the most boring seasons for me so hurricanes are my only wweather interest currently. I hope you are keeping well too.

  12. Have you enjoyed the storms?

@Weather Enthusiast91 I used to live in Birmingham and i still remember some good summer storms that I experienced there. They were not frequent but every summer would deliver something. Here in Manchester, summer storms are a rarity. Sometimes, a whole summer passes without a single one.

I would say not quite as 2012/13 was slightly colder than average and March 2013 was exceptionally cold.  Also, we had to wait 13 years for a genuine cold winter after 1995/96.

    3. karyo

      karyo

Well ok, but the winter in itself (2012/13) as you say was only slightly below average. March saved the day. We need a winter month with a decent negative anomaly.

    4. Don

      Don

We do indeed Karyo.  However, just getting a genuine cold snap is like pulling hens teeth these days, let alone getting a whole winter month with a decent negative anomaly!

will our cold come from the north or east? Northerly winds will even be good now as you factor in the strength of the snow, could produce some heavy snow showers

    3. karyo

      karyo

The models have already downgraded the cold spell. The High pressure looks too close for any meaningful shower activity.
