  1. 17.3c here at 6am, not particularly windy but what we had was very warm, despite the cloud. Did a mad dash around with vacuum at 7:30 with doors and windows open as it was touching 18c and felt as hot as on the few hot days in July/August. Max temp was 20.4c between 12:30 and 3:30 despite wind picking up to more than 30mph gusts. Weather station also recording poor wind chill and high heat index readings. Currently 18c with 87% humidity and very warm SW wind fluctuating between 19 and 23mph. Pressure is 1007.6hPa falling slowly. No rain has fallen in the last 24 hours, although MetO app on phone saying I've got heavy rain now and through to 11pm. Also have the yellow warning for thunderstorms, heavy rain and very gusty winds that may cause disruption tomorrow between 4am and midday.
  2. Despite the early promise of another sunny day, taken at 07:12. By 8am this beauty was covered in cloud, which intensified and stayed in place all day Max temperature of 17c at 12:33, currently 16.1C with humidity at 92% feeling very mild and muggy on this evening's dog walk. Wind currently SW at 4mph. And it even rained - 2.2mm this afternoon, which isn't going to add much to the very low October total. Pressure currently 1013.6hPa holding steady.
  3. It's beautiful there whatever the weather. So glad you've managed to get back there Coopsy
  4. Talking of today's sunset - this isn't the correct thread but my son sent me his sunset. Taken this evening from Dingli Cliffs (Malta) very close to where he lives. He said Nice sunset tonight. I pointed the phone, zoomed in and it came out just as we saw it. Deep red after a hot day.
  5. Dull, cloudy start to the day but brightened up and sun came out from about 2:00pm until the sun set. Had a top temperature of 17.7c at 15:30 after a low of 11.6 between 02:00 and 05:00, currently 13c with humidity at 85% Wind is 0mph with 2 min average of 1.6 and 10 minute average of 0.6mph. Pressure: 1016.8hPa slowly rising. Weather highlight of the day - a pretty sunset . The rising moon was a big fat treat this evening (although my phone on max zoom just can't deal with the poor light). Wow @Eagle Eye your sunset is dramatic - fabulous!
  6. Down to 5c here overnight. Currently 8c. It’s become more cloudy since sunrise although the sun is breaking through at times. A calm morning with 4mph from a SW direction, although damp out earlier on the dog walk. Humidity at 82% Pressure 1022hPa. I caught the start of the sunrise and took some photos as it developed (memories of the luxury of having time to notice and appreciate). Spot the deer as it shot across the garden boundary and a couple quietly grazing before they noticed it and vanished into the trees.
  7. Sorry that you’ve caught your son’s cold BB, hope you aren’t going to feel too unwell with it - if so, could other family members help out with dog walking? Best of luck! High numbers of work colleagues have started picking up the cold virus from their school age children and claiming it’s the worst cold they’ve ever had (but testing -ve for Covid); there are a lot of front line staff off sick with colds atm, partly because they feel really213212 and/or not wanting to pass on to patients. It’s creating operational pressures in some areas.
  8. Today has been a perfect Autumn day. Sunny, crisp and warm with a refreshing slight breeze. Had a long walk in Tunstall forest and with low humidity the light was clear and sharp, making the colours particularly vibrant. The trees are still surprisingly green and although the forest smells autumnal, the colours in the sun seemed more springlike than expected. Then to Orford for lunch and afterwards the most expensive 5 minutes I’ve ever indulged in at the Pump Street chocolate shop and an afternoon walk down to the quay and around the quieter lanes. Currently 11c, although feeling warmer. Wind, NNE and 6 mph. Humidity 67%. Some cloud built up around 5:30, although well broken so expecting a chilly night. Got to go home tomorrow unfortunately but weather wise it’s been mostly sunny, warm and dry these last few days and have been out all day, every day in the fresh air - a magical pause from the crazy pressure of working in the NHS, as we ramp up for another difficult winter.
  9. Good morning, 10c here, enough breaks in the cloud to allow intermittent sun. Mist along the river not yet fully dissipated. A very pleasant start to the day
  10. Same here Blazerblue and Weatherman_93 (here being temporarily in very rural spot nearish Snape). Managed to be up early enough before the mist burned off. Beautifully sunny day with a max of 15C. Had a great walk with my dog at Orford, and pub lunch, delicious death by calories Mac and Cheese and salad. and ending with an equally lovely big Suffolk sky. Currently 13C
  11. It sounds lovely where you are Blessed. I miss the owls and wrens, the blue tits hanging upside down from window frames tapping on the kitchen and bedroom windows, the swallows that nested under the eaves and around the barns and stables. Although I currently live in a village, it’s a larger village, with masses of starlings that have driven out the small birds I used to feed when first here. We do get the garden regularly buzzed and quartered by red kites, which are spectacular but I miss the song birds and the quiet of rural Suffolk. Max of 15C today, sunny until around 3pm with a couple of short but heavy showers. Sky clearing although not in time for a spectacular sunset today. Currently 6C with clear sky and mist forming over the fields. Today’s highlight, very blue sky and sun for heath walking with the dogs, with background of stags roaring, although didn’t see any (quite relieved as wouldn’t want either our dogs or my friend and I to get near any of those testosterone filled and aggressive chaps).
  12. Lovely photos @Blessed Weatherand @Eagle Eye I’m not at home this evening. Popped over to beloved Suffolk to visit a friend. It’s currently 9C, 80% humidity, wind WNW and 4mph. Pressure 1029hPa steady. No rain has fallen today. Today’s highlight; the big Suffolk sky, the silence except for several nearby owls and this….a proper big sky sunset Definitely got to retire back home to Suffolk
  13. An absolutely lovely day here. Max temp of 20C at 14.55, currently 12.9C, having fallen sharply from 16C in an hour. Humidity is 78% Wind currently 0mph (from a high of 11mph at 11:00) Average speed over 2 mins = 0.7 and over 10 minutes = 0.6 Pressure: 1029.8 rising slowly We actually had rain today, all 0.2mm of it at 03:00 hrs. If it carries on like this I'll have to increase watering the vegetable and flower beds again. Is it me? I'd noticed the usually dramatic and fascinating sunsets we get from our west facing garden seem less intense and vibrant after the first lockdown in 2020 - I've often wondered if the cleaner air, from lack of air (reduced car?) travel reduced the drama - would love to read other, more scientific weather related thoughts/opinions. This first photo taken on this evening dog walk is not untypical since the autumn of 2020. Contrast Sunday evenings at 12 Oct 2019, 14 Oct 2018 and 8 October 2017.
  14. Fell asleep before posting yesterday's weather stats but max temp was 18.7 between 3 and 4pm and still in mid 16'sC when walking my dog yesterday evening; humidity was high all day. Woke at 5am to find thick fog and temp of 8.6C. Fog had burned off by 9ish and its been a beautifully sunny morning. Cloud now drifting over and sun becoming intermittent, unfortunately. Current humidity is 84% and with 16C it is feeling very pleasant. Very little wind, with 2 min average at 0.0 and 10 minute average of 1.0mph. Pressure 1029.0hPa steady. No rain has fallen since we had 1.0mm on 5th October. As Lauren mentioned earlier, the grass is very wet but growth is impressively/horrifyingly (delete as required) fast. Managed to cut it on Thursday afternoon but it could almost do with another already. Not today though, its soaking despite hours of sun.
  15. We got to a max of 20C at 13:14 today although had only a couple hours of sun, currently 16C and the evening dog walk felt almost summer like/bit sticky. Humidity now 92% Wind veering between SW and SSW, between 3-6mph until about an hour ago falling to 1mph. Pressure 1026.9hPa steady and no rain has fallen in the last 24 hours. Today's weather highlight - seeing photos of some stunning cloudscapes and sunsets posted by regional members - thank you for sharing, it's really uplifting to see them
  16. Gusty winds overnight interrupted sleep again although missed the cloud that gave others a dreary start to the day. Max temperature here 17C at 14:49 but felt chillier due to the wind. Currently 12C, with humidity at 81% Wind dropped significantly all of a sudden at 17:00, remaining between 6 and 0mph. Both 2 and 10 averages report 0.0mph. Will be interesting to see what the overnight low will be. Pressure: 1023.1hPa rising slowly No rain has fallen in the last 24 hours. Today's weather highlight was the beautiful sunset, although unfortunately was driving and unable to pull over and photograph it.
  17. Heavy although short spell of rain at 03:30 Bit noisy with the SSW wind hurling rain at the bedroom window. Pressure had dropped to 997.0 Max temperature here today 15C at 15:23. Currently 10C and humidity is 85% Wind: currently 13mph with average speed over 2 minutes = 10.2, over 10 minutes = 11.8mph. Wind had picked up from 10:30 to 11:00 with highest recorded 34.00 mph at 17:30 and gradually reducing through the evening. Pressure: 1007.7hPa rising rapidly Weather highlight today: mix of sun and cloud but with very light spots of rain so not a bad day to be out on site, until the wind picked up after lunch and I had to chase my hard hat across a car park ..
  18. Woken by wind hurling rain at the bedroom window just before 5am and, insultingly, 20 minutes before the anti-social alarm goes off. Wind of 20mph at 04:57 and 2mm of rain fell by 05:30. No further rain has fallen today. Remainder of the day has been sunny and breezy, more so between 11:30 and 13:00. Max temperature 17C at 14:01. Currently 12C, humidity is 88% Wind: currently between 3 and 6 mph with 2 minutes average 3.7 and average over 10 minutes being 3.9mph. This now familiar calmer evening pattern follows 20mph as reported above and 22mph at 12 noon. Pressure: 1005.8hPa falling slowly. Today's weather highlight - after the rude pre-alarm awakening, the weather cut some slack and remained sunny and breezy enough to dry the driveway for the log delivery to be tipped onto a dry surface, sorted with the larger ones chopped into optimal size and neatly stacked in both Trumps. Bring on the rain now *she says smugly but slightly crippled from barrowing and stacking logs into the log stores* If anyone bothers reading this and wonders at reference to Trumps, its because when we put up the first log store soon after moving here, I diligently painted it with what was supposed to be a weather resistant 'light blond oak' coloured protection. Unfortunately it dried as the same lurid orange colour as the hair of that charming and self proclaimed Best President Ever, Best President ever in the entire history of ...... It's been known as Trump One ever since. You'll have guessed what the second one was christened
  19. Lovely sunny day; becoming windy from noon with max wind of 28 mph at 13:00 Max temp today was 17C at 15:04. currently 13C and felt chilly in the wind when dog walking around 7pm Humidity at the moment is 80% Wind currently 7mph, average over 2 minutes = 6.8 and over 10 minutes = 7.1mph Pressure: 1003.5hPa rising slowly after a low of 984.1hPa at 7pm yesterday evening No rain has fallen in the last 24 hours. Weather highlight of today was the sun and late afternoon hint of nearby bonfire - love this autumnal fusion of sun, warmth, clear air and evocative scents.
  20. Got soaked here too, only out with the dog for 20 minutes. It took two large towels to dry the poor boy. Max temp today 15C at 16:27 windy this morning, now 3mph, average over 2 minutes = 4.5 and over 10 = 4.6 mph. Pressure 984.5hPa falling rapidly. 9.2mm of rain has fallen today. Odd, it certainly felt a lot more had fallen. Especially when out splashing through puddles earlier. Got soaked and cold, which was a good reason to light the fire
  21. Remember this, Paul. With the incremental changes over the years I’d forgotten how formal it looked! Love the high quality visuals of the new community homepage. Just wondering, will the option to occasionally flick between it and previous version remain for a while if it’s adopted?
  22. My sweep rang this morning to say he can bring it forward to 19th October - every little helps as the saying goes. He's done my chimneys for several years and a trustworthy, tidy chap who keeps his prices reasonable, not charging extra even though he has to drive nearly 15 miles to get to the house. There aren't many sweeps in my area and I struggled to find one willing to do ours. He assured me today that it's perfectly safe to light the woodburner before his visit as there's never much soot because I burn only very seasoned wood and keep it at the optimum temperature for a clean burn. Gold star for me then Agree that fires and woodburners could be used more this winter because of energy costs - and suspect that reliable weather super computer Sod's Law modelling to accurately predict a cold, icy, snowy winter lasting into 3rd week of April. Have therefore followed that helpful Minister Granted Shipps advice who said there's no shortage of anything, supply is normal, nothing is closed and all we need to do is stick to our usual buying patterns. Have therefore stuck to my usual log buying pattern to get sufficient to last through the entire winter and into early summer when I give the woodburner its usual summer holiday. Have even taken a turkey, an HGV licence and some petrol off this year's Christmas list to jolly well do my bit. Well done you Kiwi and full of respect for doing own cleaning. I'm not sure we're as practical as you sound though. I've been seasoning wood from a Rowan tree we cut down 3 years ago but not yet started to use it. We had some weather today, before I get a Mod's black mark.. Max temperature 18C at 12.32. Currently 10C. Humidity now at 75%. Wind: SW 1 mph with average over 2 mins = 1.2 and over 10 minutes 1.4mph Pressure: 1010.9hPa rising slowly Today's weather highlight: sunshine and with an early evening autumnal crispness for the dog walk.
  23. Lucky you having yours done tomorrow!! Mine can't be done until third week in October ? Have asked him to do it any day and time if he gets a cancellation in the meantime.
  24. With only 2 hours to go before the end of September, my weather station has recorded 49.8mm this month. Significant percentage of which has fallen since Monday. Max temp today 17C at 13:22 currently 16C Humidity currently 86% Wind: 13 mph average 2 min speed 11.0 and over 10 minutes 10.0 Pressure: 1011.9hPa falling slowly Today's rain 1mm
