  1. @Eagle Eye From the maturity of your posts I hadn't realised you were so young - apologies if you're a mature student (even so you'll be young compared to me!), but regardless of your age I sincerely hope your exam results and the next two years get you the university place you wish for - best of luck and its lovely to see your weather knowledge and commitment / passion for meteorology - and of course your photos!
  2. Morning all! Doesn't the sun and warmer weather lift spirits - it does for me anyway and much needed with what's happening to Ukraine. After an overnight low of 2.4°C, we have a current temp of 8°C and the sun has burned off the earlier mist. Weather station hasn't registered any wind since 9am last night, pressure is 1030.4hPa rising slowly and with another sunny spring day ahead I feel compelled to find a reason to be out on a site visit this morning. Hope some of you get to sit in the sun like Mr and Mrs @Blessed Weather did yesterday Caught the sun just as it was setting yesterday. And the new misty view, now the poor huge eucalyptus tree had to be taken down after Eunice damage.
  3. Top temp of 19.4°C here at 15:05 - the pity of the day is that I've been too busy to go outside and enjoy the sun and warmth Evening dog walk was very pleasant though and still felt mild. Currently dropped to 9.8 with the clear sky.
  4. Slightly misty as dawn broke and sun is a wee bit hazy. Ground hard underfoot on earlier dog walk, a real joy after the muddy struggle and slithering of the last few months. An overnight low of 2.9°C at 05:30, currently 5.1°C with 86% humidity. No wind registering, no rain has fallen since the 16th and pressure is 1028.6hPa holding steady. Another fine day beckons
  5. A clear but frosty start today after an overnight low of -2°C. Couldn't resist taking a couple of photos around 08:15 of the frost/shade delineated borders (conservatory roof still frosted over). Currently 17°C with 49% humidity. A glorious sunny day, feeling very Spring like in the warm sun. Light winds have moved from a SSWesterly, now from a SS Easterly direction. No rain has fallen since 16th March. Pressure currently 1026.8hPa falling slowly.
  6. An absolutely gorgeous day yesterday, feeling delightfully warm with a top temp of 16.1°C - and I got outside in daylight for a few minutes ; that's been so rare over the last couple of years since Covid began and work pressures in the NHS became (and still are) relentless that family think I've turned into a bat. Huge yellow moon yesterday rising at the same time as sun finally set, so an appreciative ten or so whizzing between front and back windows; making the dogs strategically sitting in the hallway look as though they were watching a Wimbledon final I wish I'd had camera handy (phone takes useless moon photos). Lovely and sunny again today, currently 14°C but that wind is cold, has increased from this morning and pegging temperature to 14°C - feeling a bit nippy even in the sun.
  7. Not been around much lately due to awful work pressures and very long hours. Didn't notice any dust here this morning, the rain though... have had 17.2mm today and it's still raining. Babysitting daughter's dog (he's the brother of mine) and both had to be literally dragged down the drive this evening in the torrential rain. Odd because both adore jumping into rivers and ponds, the dirtier the better from their perspective - filthy beasts. Max temp today of 11°C, currently 6°C. Wind has been light, mainly from an ESE direction, only picking up from 6pm when direction changed and the WNW included gusts between 18-22mph for a couple of hours. Currently 2 minute average is 8.8 mph. Pressure is 1020.5hPa rising rapidly.
  8. Stayed for a week in a cottage down a track on outskirts of Iken until Saturday 5th - the only sounds were birdsong and cattle; a timeless and relaxing escape. Apart from Saturday (when the light rain followed us all the way home, getting heavier the further west we travelled), Wednesday was the only day with some drizzle. Saturday Sunday, Monday sunny. Tuesday mix of cloud and sunny spells, Thursday and Friday were gloriously sunny. Missing beloved Suffolk dreadfully and looking forward to retirement and settling back there. Back down to earth and the relentlessness of work.... Yesterday's high was 7.9°C with a biting easterly wind and after an overnight low of -0.4°C its currently 1°C, with 78% humidity and sunny. Pressure 1014.6hPa steady. Wind 4mph from an ESE veering south easterly direction, with average windspeed over 10 minutes of 3.3mph. No rain has fallen here since Saturday.
  9. It certainly got a bit lively here a short time ago, sounded like hail or sleet on the windows and some bangs on the roof. Lots of groaning from our very tall eucalyptus, which brought next door neighbours outside to check it wasn't going to land on them. It's still standing and wind seems to have quietened a bit now. Short loss of power but back on again.
  10. Its been nasty here for 45 mins, lots of loud bangs from things landing on roof, difficult standing still (west facing garden backing onto open land) when outside keeping dog away from the big trees for a quick wee (him, not me ) Recording a number of 51/52mph gusts in last 30 minutes; average 10 minute speed 30.9 mph and there's a way to go yet. Edit: started this well over 90 minutes ago. Had to abandon to clear the smashed heavy metal gazebo frame (removed top cover before winter) which was pinned down with long metal stakes. They stayed in place but metal frame twisted then broke into pieces and started hurling javelin type parts into shed and conservatory glass. Must have been the 66mph gust measured by my Vantage VUE. Is scary now. Is the worst of it over now?
  11. The dreaded red. A leg cramp woke me an hour ago and noticed the big tree I’m worried about waving around, then saw the red warning had just come in. Scary how quickly the wind has increased and this will seem like a breeze all too soon. No chance of going back to sleep now as too tense. Vivid memories of 87 not helping. Hope everyone gets through today without too much damage.
  12. Evening all, after yesterday's fun and games of a split lip and swollen eye after being hit by a small falling branch while picking up debris from the wheelie bin that broke loose from its secure accommodation, it seems eerily calm this evening. Top temp today recorded as 11.4°C at 14:40. Currently 7.7°C with 81% humidity. Wind has been mostly from a westerly direction, save a brief spell veering WNW, now from a south westerly direction and only 4mph. No rain has fallen since midnight. Pressure currently 1007.8hPa falling slowly - so here we go. My part of the NHS is letting me work from home tomorrow; laptop is on charge so I can work from my hiding place, even if the tree I'm worried about does end up falling through the conservatory.... Stay safe everyone.
  13. Same here! Its bad enough with the gusts we've had here this afternoon. Was stuck on an MS Teams meeting late afternoon trying to sound professional while unable to concentrate due to the chaotic noise outside (did wonder if the house was being burgled). It was only wheelie bin-gate (3 of them escaped from their sheltered home) literally crashing themselves into the back gate trying to escape from the side garden. While I've been stressing about the risk of Friday's storm bringing down the huge eucalyptus tree and flattening the conservatory after watching the entire thing rocking from its roots today, the 49mph gusts are doing their best to take off the conservatory roof all on their own by the sound of it. Am hoping the charts are wrong, particularly having got whipped across the face by a thin branch that came down while I was outside when rounding up the blasted wheelie bins. Now sporting a split lip and a puffy eye from 49 mph gusts so Friday will definitely be dangerous for anyone outside if Eunice is as strong as is being forecast.
  14. Ironically, I recently got a tree surgeon quote to lop off 3-4 metres from the exceptionally high eucalyptus tree that is the closest to the conservatory of the back garden big trees; they can't do it until the latter half of March. Am now suffering from IMBY nerves and hoping Friday's storm will be more around Icon's wind speeds than the other models. Haven't managed a weather report for ages due to work demands and exhausted when not working. Today's high temperature was 9°C at 12:00 coinciding with the first drizzle after a gloriously sunny start to the day and an overnight low of 2.3°C at 2am. Breezy day with winds from either a SW or WSW direction gusting in the 20's with a couple of higher gusts of 30mph - even at those speeds the thrashing eucalyptus looks scary. Currently wind reduced to an average over 2 minutes of 7.5 and 10 minute average of 6.3mph from the WSW. Pressure is 10041.4hPa falling slowly. 4mm of rain has fallen since midnight, taking February's total up to 17.6mm, exceeding the January month total by 3.6mm.
  15. Chilly day with a max temperature here of 8.2°C at 14:30 after an overnight low of 5.1°C. Currently 4°C with 76% humidity. Saw the gritters out this evening and the sky is clear so expecting a frost by morning - yay hoping that will harden the muddy footpaths. Wind mainly WNW, veering W from 6pm, highest gust 23mph but overall less windy than yesterday, certainly the weekend and currently 4mph. Pressure 1024.3hPa rising slowly. No rain has fallen in the last 24 hours. Weather highlight today: Sunshine, crisp with excellent visibility. The vivid and dramatic sunsets I used to photograph from my upstairs 'room with a view' diminished after the first 2020 lockdown and haven't returned to their former glory. However, happened to have my phone in pocket this afternoon. Nothing particularly robust - more pale but interesting...
  16. Happy birthday!! @Atmogenic Today's high was 12.1°C at 11:30am after an overnight low of 8.8°C. Currently 9.1°C with 90% humidity. Sunny morning but brisk wind. Clouding over early afternoon with spits and spots of fine rain totalling .2mm - hardly worth the bother, except to make dog walking along already ruined field tracks even more of a disgusting experience. Pressure currently 1021.7hPa steady.
  17. Evening all - lots of great sunset photos again! Had some soggy snow for a very brief time on Friday before reverting to sleet, then rain. Quieter today after a windy weekend with wind speeds in the high 30's. Sunny day with today's max temperature 10.2°C recorded at 8pm this evening, after an overnight low of 1.6°C. Currently 10°C with 87% humidity. Wind today mainly from a WSW direction with top gust of only 23mph. Pressure currently 1024.5hPa steady and no rain has fallen today - having said that we've had 8.6mm of rain in the first six days of February against a total of 14mm for the whole of January. Couple of photos to show how mild January and the beginning of February have been. The blossom is from a large shrub in my front garden on 27th January (glorious lemon sherbet scent) and we've already had a lot of bee activity. The other photo was taken yesterday in a local west facing but unsheltered garden.
  18. Cracking start to February. Max temp here was 15°C recorded at 15:30 after an overnight low of 5.9°C at midnight. Bit of a blustery day took the edge of the temperature though, mainly from a W or WNW, occasionally NW direction with a couple of gusts of 30mph and a few hours in the high 20's. Pressure 1020.4hPa rising slowly. No rain has fallen since midnight, with the January rainfall total just about reaching 14mm. Some cloud when I took this earlier at 17:15 - so long as this winter's heavy cloud blanket isn't around, its pleasantly noticeable how much daylight hours are extending now.
  19. Windier than expected overnight with highest gust of 45mph recorded at 03:00. Top temperature today 8.6°C early afternoon. Blustery day with wind initially from a WNW direction overnight and this morning changed to NW and now back to WNW. Currently 7mph with current temperature of 5.4°C and 82% humidity. Pressure 1026.0hPa steady and 0.6mm of rain fell near midnight. Nowhere near as stunning a sunset as @Eagle Eye had today and beautifully captured as ever. Here though, managed to catch a bit of colour, all too rare this winter, from a chance passing of an upstairs window.
  20. A more interesting and pleasant day today. Sunny, mild, with scudding clouds and a blustery wind. High of 13.3°C between 2-3pm, after an overnight low of 8.8°C . Currently 8°C with 72% humidity. Wind from WNW and 6mph with highest gusts today of 30mph - given that I've been reporting either zero readings or single digit wind speeds for weeks, it was quite exciting to see the tree branches actually moving with some energy. Good also to see the revolting, fatherless, overweight pigeon population having to expend some effort to perch without moving for a change. The annoyingly immoveable excrement factories strategically position themselves in teams, dotted carefully around every one of the large trees to create maximum pigeon poo coverage of the lawn and driving my disgusting dog into raptures in his haste to hoover clean the entire back garden I have fond memories of living in rural Suffolk with a couple of shotguns to hand. Whether it was to scare the pigeons or the RAF local helicopter gunship pervert pilots slowly rising from behind the hedges when my daughter and I were out in short shorts and bikini tops clearing the paddocks, they were jolly handy to see off all manner of unwanted flying pests. I'd quite like them here to scare these enormous filthy feathered shitters off my land. I run outside clapping hands and shouting at them to naff off. They just smugly sit up there offering the equivalent gentle cooing response that clearly says "nah, swearing is not big or clever you". Today's weather highlight: the 0.2mm of rain! The first since 11th January.
  21. Some great photos over the last couple of days. Yesterday the sun appeared late lunchtime and I even managed to grab 30 minutes to walk outside, out of the chilly wind there was definite warmth in the sun and it felt marvellous. What a difference that made to energy levels. This morning there was too much cloud for a sunrise, although I noticed it was a sunny afternoon when managed a moment to look out of a window at work. Current temperature is 8.7°C after an overnight low of 1.0°C and a top temperature of 10.1°C at 14:00. Wind currently from a WNW direction and 3.5mph. Pressure 1029.6hPa falling slowly. No rain has fallen since 11 January.
  22. How lovely to read that some of you had sun today While we didn't have any here, I can't complain because it was at least lighter and higher cloud, so the level of grey wasn't so oppressive. Top temperature today, after an overnight low of 2.6°C, was 8.9°C between 13:30-14:30. Currently 5°C with 82% humidity. Again a day of very light wind, currently WSW at 3mps. Pressure 1027.4hPa falling slowly. No rain has fallen since 11 January.
  23. We got to a highest temp of 2.3°C today. Met Office app for my village has absolutely no sun symbols for any part of any day up to and including next Monday. God. Its the gloom and the not getting properly light all day that gets me down, more than the temperature.
  24. Oh no, sorry to see it caught up with you - hope it wasn't too bad and you are feeling back to your usual self? Not a lot to report here weather wise. Cloudy, again. As it was for most of the weekend and again yesterday.... back to this winter's speciality Permagloom - it's yet another day of particularly poor quality light I'm not sure I've properly woken up this winter and beginning to feel like a dormouse. Currently 2°C and 86% humidity after an overnight low of 1.6°C. Wind WSW and 0.5mph... Pressure 1034.1hPa rising slowly. No rain has fallen since 11th January, with only 13.2mm recorded for the month.
