  1. Console shows 40°C at 14:10, although downloaded data shows we got to 40.1°C at 16:30 with 20% humidity. Currently 31.1°C with 39% humidity but it feels horrible, hot, thick and muggy. Just back from walking the dog and had some heavy fat raindrops for a few minutes. While it efficiently frizzled my hair, the pavements weren't even damp. The wind has dropped to 7mph adding to the general feeling of this being the worst part of the day. Have had three power cuts this afternoon. Field fire near Ravensden this afternoon 2022.07.19.xspf Not sure if the video will work..... am rubbish at loading videos on here.
  2. Based on these temp recordings from radar at 12:05, my weather station can't be right can it? Or is my heat muddled head missing something?
  3. Recorded 31°C before 9am. Currently 36°C with inside temperature of 29 (my home office) - and this despite a large fan going full blast Yesterday we hit 36C at 2pm.
  4. Its dropped to 37.8°C here and granted its not a significant drop from 38 but breeze has reduced so it feels hotter now
  5. We got to 37°C at 15:03 and hit 38°C at 16:00. Inside temperature when weather station console sits is showing 28°C but that's my office and have a fan on. Upstairs feels a lot warmer. No defib in a GP surgery??? All GP surgeries MUST have an emergency trolley with defib and a portable oxygen tank. It's mandatory and they would fail a CQC inspection without that in place. I'm wondering if they have one but something got lost in translation? i.e. they couldn't release it to deal with something down the road that ordinarily the ambulance service would cover. Not a good reflection on the GP surgery - I'd expect better from one of mine in the area I'm responsible for. Apologies to MAF for not saying well done to you for helping with CPR - not easy in this heat as I know from experience - and hope the ambulance arrived before you exhausted yourself.
  6. High cloud and the loss of late morning/lunchtime breeze made this afternoon's high of 31.2°C feel uncomfortably warmer. The house GF temp is currently 27.2°C but the bedrooms are still registering as 29.7°C and am dreading going to bed. Although I sometimes mutter about the sadistic g*t who designed the house with each bedroom facing due west, to guarantee overheated rooms even in average summers, I keep thinking about those living in cities encircled by busy roads, other high density housing and without much (if any) surrounding space, grass and trees to help absorb the heat. So good luck and sincere best wishes to all struggling with the heat over the next couple of days and nights - and reminder to self to be grateful for having somewhere to lay my head, hot or otherwise.
  7. Wasn't it fantastic Lauren! So much so I got side tracked when about to plate up supper and wandered around outside gushing about the wonderful earthy aroma, before coming back in to a line of long suffering faces and one of my three Evil Geniuses sighed "Mummy, you could simply have said Mmm, that delicious petrichor is a perfect accompaniment to this home made soup as you ladled it into the bowls while it was still warm...." prompting a rare wish for the Rees-Mogg parenting approach; dress them up in pre-WWI clothes and instil the Seen But Not Heard At All Times rule. Our big fat raindrops gave way to what seemed a good steady shower, yet weather station recorded a measly 0.4mm. Today's top temp was 28.8°C at 16:30 but with the cloud cover and barely a breeze it felt hotter and the air thicker and unpleasant. Just before 9pm the cloud broke to the north west and we got a hint of the sunset. Although that was sum total of the cloud shift, it was a mood lifting end to the day.
  8. Today's top temperature was 31.6°C at 16:00 with 40% humidity. Currently weather station recording 25°C and 56% humidity. A slight breeze appeared this evening but unfortunately has dropped away again unfortunately. Inside temperature is 28°C - have every fan going and all windows wide open. Its going to be impossible to sleep tonight. Spoke to my 99 year old father earlier; he's struggling with the heat and feeling tired, lethargic and lost his appetite. Have done lots of nagging about keeping his fluid intake up, both to him and sister who is his minder carer. Dreading Sunday/Monday with those scary potential temperatures. July's monthly rain total to date is 3.6mm. All recorded on 1st and 2nd July. Nothing since. Lawn is brown, except for the small area we re-turfed a few weeks ago and only watering that wee patch , the vegetables, bedding plants and the one hanging basket.
  9. Beautiful day but too hot for comfort. Weather station saying today's top temperature was 29.7°C at 18:30, stayed at that temperature until 19:30 when it dropped to 28.8°C . Currently 28.3°C . Despite curtains closed and fans going the house is currently 27°C . Wind from NW at 1.0mph. Could do with yesterday evening's breeze, please! Harvesting started Thursday a few miles east of us and our fields (2 minute walk from house look ready for the next day or so). Pretty cirrus clouds this evening.
  10. It's been almost 6 weeks since my last visit and I hope everyone is well? Max temperature here today was 28°C at 16:07 according to my weather station. Currently external temp is 18°C with no wind recorded at all. However, it's recording 27°C inside the house this evening and suspect tonight and for the next week sleeping will be difficult. It was too warm to really enjoy the evening dog walk, although the surrounding countryside looked pretty in the evening sunshine - photos taken on the walk. Sky/clouds taken a bit later around sunset from garden, while cooling off with a cold shandy.. racy life here! Spot the moon peeping through that stunning orange cloud.
  11. Drove through torrential downpour on A1 around Baldock at midday, so bad I slithered off to the services and waited it out. Heavy rain at home then a couple hours of sun. Had torrential downpour and thunder about an hour ago. Poor dog is at nursery school today so hopefully the other dogs and kind day care workers would have been keeping him sane
  12. Good morning everyone. Some great photos over the last couple of days. No thunder here yesterday; Mr SH messaged at 11:40 to say there was a big thunderstorm where he works NNW of Bedford. Where I was circa 30 miles south east just had cloud, some light drizzle then a downpour with a rain rate of 68.6 according to weather station. Which looked and sounded impressive, although daily total was only 4.2mm. Sun came out and from mid afternoon it remained sunny and pleasant with the sky to northwest staying light until after I headed for bed. Yesterday's top temperature was 17.5°C. Currently overcast, 13°C, 76% humidity and wind from a WSW directions has picked up in the last hour. Pressure 1010 hPa steady.
  13. Glad your woof avoided meltdown! Fantastic display last night, happily sitting in bed watching it for about 30 minutes but thunder started just as the sky really lit up with multiple dramatics to west and east simultaneously, I was trying to video; dog started crying and rushed upstairs in a blind panic. All a bit chaotic after that, so its great to see photos and videos. Our woof's meltdown was horrible, bless him. Finally got him to stop hyper ventilating at gone 1:30, then he woke me several times throughout the night with a wet nose check that I was still there to reassure him, again, and again and again - so not much sleep at all for him or me. Grey, overcast this morning but lovely sunny afternoon and warm, calm evening. Today's top temperature 21°C. Currently 14°C with 74% humidity, up from a pleasant 64% at 8:30pm when pottering around in the vegetable patch and admiring the few pretty and benign clouds. Light breeze from W, veering SW with nothing registering for last couple of hours. Pressure 1019.4hPa steady.
  14. We’re having an amazing light show here, almost constant flashing for last 40 mins. Some of the seems to be on the western flank of the village but this brilliant site was showing it to the west of Luton and reaching Houghton Regis. Now lots of activity at Ampthill. It’ll be pretty noisy there because thunder is now ramping up from loud rumbling to that tearing, booming phase. We’re just over 13 miles east of Ampthill. Another tranche heading north from Hitchin so looking directly enroute to us. My poor dog is a quivering mess. Torrential rain just started.
  15. Greetings all after a long absence and I hope everyone is well? 5th April seems such a long time ago but has flown by. Absence due to ill health (mine), visit to see one of my sons who has been very ill over the last two years, work pressures and very long days and, more positively, a recent family wedding. Some great photos and very interesting analysis from the skim read I've done to try and catch up. Yesterday my weather station recorded 26.6°C at 16:30 not dropping below 25°C until after 19:30. Some dramatic dark sky yesterday evening after a stunning sunny day resulted in the brief spell of drizzle later (to coincide naturally with dog walk) only recording as 0.2mm. Today's high was 23.8°C at 17:00. Currently cloudy after sun until late afternoon but sky doesn't look anywhere as interesting as it did yesterday evening. Yet.... Wind from a SSW directions and barely moving the leaves. Doesn't feel very humid and registering at 47%. Pressure 1015.8hPa falling slowly. Wondering what the odds are of being up in the night trying to calm a thunder-phobic dog having massive anxiety attacks. What's the more expert consensus?
  16. It would have been quicker to send these by carrier pigeon - several days absence due to work pressures and over long working hours Sunday morning frost n shade patterns and Sunday sunset. Sunday morning frost patterns followed an overnight low of -2.8°C then a mainly sunny day and pretty sunset. Have absolutely no recollection of yesterday's weather though, except weather station recorded a top temp of 14.4°C . Today has been dull and cloudy with a maximum temp of 14.3°C at 16:00 after an overnight low of 11.1°C . Currently 10.6°C with 75% humidity. Wind from a WNW direction and 9mph. Pressure is 1005.0hPa steady.
  17. Yesterday crept to a high of 9.3°C at 14:30. Evening became wet, cold and windy and, quite frankly, utterly revolting after last week's sun and warmth. The morning dog walk was bitterly cold, coinciding with the overnight of low of -0.3°C but as the sun came up it looked like a reasonable day. An hour later it was snowing. Couldn't upload the videos, which is a pity because for a time it was heavy with large fluffy flakes and looking very pretty. The photo I posted earlier shows how quickly it is melting. Currently .8°C wind from the north west at 1 mph.
  18. Foggy start as it got light, slight hint of frost at bottom of the garden, by 7am temperature had dropped to -0.4°C and the whole lawn was white. Sun broke through around 9am, blue sky from then on and achieved a high today of 16.8°C and humidity of 63% at 15:30. Currently 12°C with humidity of 71% felt very mild on evening dog walk. Very little wind today. Pressure has dropped slowly all day and now 1017.8hPa and continuing to fall slowly. No rain has fallen since 16th March. Felt very pleasant in the sun this afternoon and a bit of a bonus day given the Met Office app on my phone said cloud, cloud and more cloud. The said App has given me a snowflake at 4am on Thursday. Just the one lonely flake mind. I'd consider turning on the outside floodlights and setting the alarm to hunt down the intrepid wee miracle, except I'd far rather have the sun and warmth back thank you very much.
  19. Cool, misty and cloudy today. What a difference - just as the warmth and sun had revitalised everyone. Eventually it got a little less dull this afternoon but the sun only came out just as it started to set. Currently clear skies and 11°C. Had a nice long walk this morning but couldn't go to lunch with my daughter, who was going to cook my favourite meal, because she's still Covid positive (on her 9th day), poor girl and we can't risk getting infected and taking it into our respective health settings. Never mind, at least she hasn't been too ill this second time around. Great that its still light at 7:30pm. Hope all the Mummies had a good day!
  20. It's been 20.3°C here between 15:30 and 16:00, despite quite a lot of cloud bubbling up. Currently 18.7°C - what a stunning day.
  21. Gosh, I do hope you're proud of yourself! You've taken the risk to reach out and engaged with so many people. Your honesty and self awareness in this post shows an impressive insight and maturity , regardless of age. My clinical background is in mental health and I've done a lot of counselling over the years; and you wouldn't believe how hard it is for people - and I include myself here, to (a) have this level of self-awareness and (b) be willing to 'own' their issues, accept you're still working on managing your triggers - let along share them (I don't share mine outside a couple of 'safe' people). Never lose faith in yourself, keep on as you are. You will do fine!
