  1. Absolutely dead calm here, after a windy night and morning (gusting in low to mid 40's). Really crisp with lovely leaf scent. I wish it would stay like this. Brian could be useful, about turn and annoy Trump's remaining intact golf resorts.
  2. After gusts in the mid 40's here all day, it is now absolutely dead calm. A lovely crisp air and smell of dry leaves (for the first time for ages as Monday's warmth was via humid air that smelled of Iberian wild fires).
  3. Very windy overnight and this morning. I wouldn't say the dog was flying around on the end of a horizontal lead but we were pushed and buffeted around the village perimeter. Not pleasant out first thing. Currently: Cloudy, 14C feels like 11C (it feels colder!) Wind 14 gusting 24 Humidity 73% Pressure 1007 Visibility Very good
  4. Evening Paul, Thank you for the fix and your prompt attention to my initial request for help. It was successful, albeit a temporary solution. I was able to upload a couple of photos in one post on the Autumn thread but then got that message again. In a separate post I was only able to attach one photo, despite a joint size of only 2.3mb, should the additional photo I wanted to upload, successfully processed - again with the same message. Am confused as this is the first time since I joined in 2005 that I've had difficulties with uploading photos so am wondering if it's me or my iPad/iPhone?
  5. To this dreary colourwashed state, taken Monday (black blob is not an Autumnal anomaly! It's my Labrador puppy chewing lying around chewing a twig). The same day last year's similar photo was full of colour with trees still in full leaf. Unfortunately I'm having problems uploading the photo for comparison.
  6. Very dark this morning; still barely light and it's only October.. Temp 14C Wind SSE 3 Pressure 1007 Visibility poor, although last night's fog has dissipated.
  7. Sherpa, because the breeder said that at just 3 weeks old one of the boy puppies managed to scale the heights of a kitchen chair. I liked the name although not sure if it was my puppy! Have put a couple of photos in the pet thread.
  8. I'm having problems uploading photos as well. Same message as ajpoolshark "there was a problem processing the uploaded file. -200." This applies to various sizes, e.g. 1.3mb, 2mb etc. Then occasionally a photo will upload. I've wondered if somehow it is my iPad and iPhone? Any advice is very welcome. Many thanks.
  9. We also had the red sun and strange light this afternoon. Could smell the smoke from Portugal and Spain. However, the strangest thing was the birds falling silent for over an hour. My 8 month old Lab got freaked out by it all, would only go out into the garden if I stayed close to him and kept his eyes on that extraordinary sky. He was totally confused, bless him
  10. I've been wondering that all day and keeping an eye out for any posts from him. Hope he's ok.
  11. Very sorry about your brother Snipper. Hope you and your family will be alright in the future.
  12. Light has changed here too. Very red sun which phone camera couldn't pick up very well. Birds have fallen silent. Very strange and makes me realise how silent it is without birdsong. Can't upload photos or video of clouds (??) passing across sun that successfully had highlighted the blood red colour. Can smell burning now too. Trees thrashing but Met Office app says only gusting 37. Lord knows what 87 or 97 feels like!
  13. My Met Office phone app definitely did not mention rain today. Therefore the 06:45 intense shower, followed by drizzle for half an hour or so, was a disappointing surprise. There has been sun, for a while, but cloudy again and I can't see how we could attain 22 C today - although longing to be proved wrong! Currently: 17C grey cloud (possibly rain producing? especially as have just hung out the washing...) Wind: SSE 13 Gusts to 23 Humidity: 86% Pressure: 1014
  14. Made me laugh... Twitter (Jason Ashford @jasonashford89) "Whatever your political view on the border, you have to be impressed by the fact that it's hurricane proof"
  15. Aw KS87 bless you! If the wind cone shows consistent evidence during today that it extends to Dublin and 80 to 90 mph does become more certain, why not ask her to stay home tomorrow to ensure she stays safe? And you sane? If she works for the emergency services or NHS that won't be possible as all hands will be needed to keep services working normally even away from the most impacted areas (they'll move human/equipment resources to where they think they'll be most needed - assume they work similar to our Gold/Silver Command). If not, a day at home indoors will be the safest option and we all need a duvet day from time to time...
  16. Good morning, a mix of sun and cloud forecast here today. Currently sunny, thank goodness. Temp: 16C feels like 14, high of 19 expected. wind: SW 10 Pressure: 1023 Humidity: 84%
  17. Clear night lit by stunningly bright moon. Easy to remember childhood belief that little fairies danced in gardens when the moon was this big and silvery. Photo of it won't upload Currently 8C, feels like 6 wind WNW 7 visibilty good
  18. NO!! Feels like a damp, dank winter day and its only the beginning of October. How depressing...
  19. Early morning dog walk was pleasant with a slight breeze but feeling colder now: 14 C although feels like 11 wind 14 WSW, gusting 23 Might need to light the wood-burner soon.
  20. A lot calmer now, recent gust of 44mph according to my met office app so no idea what was going on earlier. Except not much sleep due to the noise.. Small branches scattered down the back garden and I can see a pergola damaged in next door's garden. But my trees are still standing
  21. Wind has really picked up in the last hour. Met Office is predicting only 47 mph gusts here but already in my west facing rear garden, backing onto open ground, my six large trees and four medium are now thrashing around, all with full leaf. I'm hoping they will make it through the night without damage. I like my trees.
  22. Good God, it just gets worse. How long will Irma keep up this level of destruction? Am struggling to comprehend all the updates and the lack of her deterioration.
  23. Feeling stunned especially with the imminent risk of a repeat from Jose. Where will all these shocked and homeless people sleep tonight, next week, next month? How will the Government of Antigua and Barbuda find the money to rebuild virtually the entirety of Barbuda's infrastructure and houses? With Irma churning mercilessly onwards, focus will inevitably be on the risk to Florida and this small island's struggle and the struggles of St Martin, St Barthélemy, Anguilla et al may get lost in that coverage. I hope not. Just hoping that Jose's track avoids Barbuda and the other damaged Leeward Islands.
  24. Feel the same. That poor Brett Fetterolf's live stream suddenly stopped. His house was leaking and he sounded extremely stressed. I hope he's alright, especially as I've just seen Snow Joke's photo of devastation taken in the eye. Was listening to an interview on Facebook and they said they would lift the hurricane warning from Barbuda and Antigua around 1pm our time although they have still had no communication from Barbuda.
