  1. Possibly the strangest thunderstorm I have ever witnessed in MK, very elevated cloud base, constant rolling thunder that wasn't very loud and very little heavy rainfall. The rain which has fallen is moderate and only just wet the ground. Even the cloud base didn't appear very dark when overhead as light was able to pass underneath. Now moving off to the SE with constant thunder still rolling across the sky.
  2. Thunder and lightning now starting in MK, storm is forming overhead and static from a cluster of showers in the area. No rain just crisp crackly elevated thunder.
  3. Incredible little cell sitting to the north of MK at the minute, very hard edged robust updraft with a small circular looking anvil a top. Shower towards the back edge of this cell firing also, very fast up draft with a pileus cap.
  4. Looking at development and the direction we need to be watching to the NW / SE of Coventry. Any storms that do fire up should move right across our areas in an hour or so.
  5. Storm appears to be building to the south of MK over the chilterns, can see the dark base and very tall cloud tops. A Couple of smaller cells popping up to the north of here although fairly weak at the minute, with lots of smaller towering cumulus filling the sky. Hardly any wind and it's suddenly feeling extremely humid outside. Looking at the storms they appear to be very localised and of the pulse variety, quickly building producing lightning and then decaying fairly rapidly.
  6. Pc and TV were both connected as was the internet last night during the storm, didn't disconnect anything apart from my iPhone that was on charge as I left my flat in the city and walked up towards Campbell park viewing point, the highest point in Milton Keynes to get a better view of all the lightning. At the end of the day my stuff is insured, and when your times up your times up, no amount of hiding away indoors will change the fact, so that's why I always go outside to enjoy and better appreciate the wonder of nature and how powerful it is.
  7. Here's a good motto I use: If you spend your whole life being afraid, you never get to experience life at all.
  8. Been cloudy here all morning after last nights storm pushed through. Sun is now out though and the temperature is beginning to climb, recording 18.8'c at the minute up from 16.3'c less than an hour ago. Still feels uncomfortably humid and warm out. Some good cumulus development evident in the clearer blue sky as well, not sure if we'll see any more storms today, certainly feels ripe for a storm at the minute though.
  9. That's me done for the night I'm off to bed, got my fix of night time lightning and some nice thunder. It's still flashing and rumbling well in the distance, so good luck to those south of here who haven't seen anything yet,,,
  10. Intra cloud lightning here in MK is incredible, basically the whole length of MK from as far south as Leighton Buzzard all the way back north is experiencing very long bolts and the thunder has been rolling from one side of the city right across to the other end, no rain either it's friggin awesome even if the lightning is very elevated and the thunder not extremely loud
  11. Definitely thundering well to the east of MK now, long loud rumbles and very frequent elevated lightning. Looks to be moving away as I suspected it was doing. Oh appears to be getting closer, rain has stopped and the wind has completely changed direction from a NW to a SE flow, thunder getting louder and lightning brighter
  12. Loud metallic long rumbling thunder now in MK, just as the rain is easing off. I bet this sodding storm gets stronger as it moves away to my south
  13. Absolutely hammering it down with rain now, 20p sized droplets, can't believe there is no thunder so far with it, unless it's still building
  14. Sure it's not the stuff around Bicester you can see that's electrified. Stuff to the north of MK seems to have died again electrically, not seen a single flicker in quite a while. However the wind here has picked up and the cloud base is lowering. Hopefully something will fire off, but I have this feeling even though radar returns look good all we may see is some moderate rainfall. Oh heavy raindrops falling now, please go flashy flashy bang bang!!!!! lol
  15. Stuff to my north seems to be intensifying and have seen a few flickers of lightning towards Northampton, and can still see lightning out west towards Buckingham. Not been able to hear any thunder for a while though now, so I'm guessing what I heard earlier a way off were possibly positive strikes as the thunder was deep, explosive sounding and lasted quite a long time.
  16. OH MY GOD!!! Just heard the deepest angriest sounding growl of thunder I think I've ever heard in the distance. It sounded menacing, and quite scary Can see lightning flashes to my north east and north west now, and can hear angry sounding deep thunder,
  17. Winds really picking up here again and it smells like rain, everything electrical is 50-60 miles to the west or south of here. Hoping the precipitation to my north develops as it pushes south eastwards. fingers crossed and anything else I can cross as well
  18. Aye, looking at the latest wind map, there's a convergence zone rapidly approaching our area. It's why the storms to the west / south west of here have fired. Couple of new cells out towards Oxford forming now and a bit of heavy rain brewing to the NW heading this way. Might be lucky and catch something in a while. Latest BBC forecast said more storms developing into the early hours before clearing away to the south coast by morning, Fingers crossed, been ages since I've had any close overnight storms, even the 2012 overnight MCS missed here by 60 miles or so.
  19. Something is going on round here, still 19.5'c with a very warm wind that is swirling about, also large splodgey convective drops of rain are sporadically making it down to ground level.
  20. Looking very stormy here in MK now, cell coming over which appears to be elevated in nature, although very dark and undulated at the base. No thunder or rain yet, but I can smell rain on a strengthening breeze. If you look at the wind profile, the cells are developing because of wind convergence, which appears to be strongest through the spine of country. This is the likely trigger along the trough and will push further south overnight and probably set off more storms as the night goes on.
  21. Aye winds picked up further south and I can see some very large cumulus developing around here. Definitely some instability starting to appear.
  22. Pretty sure Reed Timmer shot a video the other year of a LP super cell that produced a tornado a couple of years ago in Colorado that had a lower cloud base starting around 7500-8000ft, so it's possible to get tornadic activity from high based super cells.
  23. Very heavy large convective rain drops falling in MK now, appears to be a cell rapidly developing to my south west and one towards Northampton. Something odd going on cause these are springing up in a matter of minutes. Wonder if there has been an unexpected trough develop and it's causing the release of all the mid level energy in the atmosphere?
  24. Can see sporadic flickers of very elevated lightning from MK at the minute, appears to be coming from the north, east and south east. Haven't heard any thunder, but it's unusually quiet out tonight almost ghostly and looks a little hazy due to the humidity. Very strange indeed.
  25. Now hammering it down with rain in Milton Keynes from a very disturbed looking alto cumulus layer, with the odd dark low down cumulus underneath flying through quickly although there is not any wind. Have this feeling the developing showers are going to turn a lot more thundery than forecast, it feels ripe out there, the humidity and warmth feels very oppressive at the minute.
