  4. Love the sea .. my Mum and Dad moved from London to the Coast when they retired. I find it peaceful and relaxing, the sounds, smell and the way it stretches into the horizon. Maybe one day I will live by the sea .. probably not though given my finances.
  5. Weather related: MDR 2 Shadow 3 Slinky 1 KF 2 RN 1 Non-weather related: Louby N1 KF N3 Shadow N1 JC N1 Blackie N1 Really superb photos to choose from - talented bunch the net weather photographers! B)
  6. If it is a virus it could travel via people using airplanes etc visiting foreign countries .. unless it is airborne in which case it would travel of its own accord. Let's hope not though.
  7. Incredible! Could be an offworld virus or it could be a reaction (radioactive) from the meteor itself - who knows .. very interesting though.
  8. Beautiful photos Marie - the second one is absolutely surreal!!! Welcome to Netweather,
  9. I live in Bromley and the ground where the grass is in my garden has cracked thru the dryness. Unbelievable!!! But it is a chalk based soil
  10. Can you imagine a London underground tube full of people in summer who did not use deoderant or wash their hair or other bodily parts! Still.. I suppose it would reduce the crowding on the tube!!! I love my bath and I use MOP on my hair (Modern Organic Products) shampoos which you can obtain from the wonderful QVC satellite shopping channel and it is all natural ingredients!!! And living in a house with 19 cats, I need a bath at LEAST every other night after cleaning up after that lot - the hair they drop is incredible!!!!
  11. I want a mild winter so I dont have to stand in the freezing blipping cold and snow waiting for a train/bus etc only to find it is cancelled due to bad weather conditions!!!! Blaaaaaaaaa!
  12. Fabulous photos! Weather related: WM1 (my absolute favourite) .. and the others are superb also and in no particular order WM2 WS1 Slinky1 MAM1 Non-weather: ZH N1 (absolutely love it being a cat person myself!!! ) JCN1 Shadow N1 Shadow N3 Blackie N2 Stunning photos to choose from though - gets tougher all the time!
  13. It is depressing to read that .. it is even more depressing or rather unbelievable that some people just do not want to believe GW is/could be happening at all - but it is the same old story - too little done, too late. Perhaps when a tornado scours the face of Great Britain and then the sea rises up and covers the land mass that is left, it may get some attention.
  14. Here you go ... The answer lies in their thickness – and how far we can see through them (ie: the visibility). If we can see less than 1 km through the cloud of water droplets, it is known as fog. If we can see between 1 and 2 km, we call it mist. Key fact: although mist and fog look like smoke, they are actually tiny drops of water floating in the air. In fact, they are clouds that have formed at ground level. Condensation... Mist and fog usually form at night when the air is too cold to hold all its moisture. Clear skies mean that the ground gets cold and it then cools the air close to it. This cool air causes condensation and water droplets form in the air. Fogs are thickest when the air can hold a lot of moisture. Formation... Although mist is not as thick as fog, they are both formed in this same way. Mist, however, usually stays closer to the ground and you can see over the top of it. Mist is often seen on autumn mornings when nights get longer and cooler again. This is particularly true in valleys, because cold air sinks down and collects in the valley during the night. Mist and fog also form over areas where there is plenty of moisture, such as river valleys, lakes and harbours. If warm air meets cold seas or waters (or any cooler surface) then condensation will once again occur and fog will form. This explains the example of San Francisco, where the Golden Gate Bridge is often surrounded by mist and fog. This is formed as the warm California air from the south is chilled as it blows over the cold sea currents in the Pacific.
