Storm south of Gloucester is really getting going. See it south of my house. Awesome display. Didn't think we were expecting this.
-

-

-

Lol! work phoned the misses earlier to see if she could go in tomorrow and cover snow bound midwives, at least she will be happy at not having to go in now
hi windswept, I'm currently down in centreparcs, due back tomorrow, I presume its raining in longlevens still. if so, phew, want to get home
-
supposed to be travelling back to chelt tomorrow from centreparcs in longleat with my 17 month old little boy. I'm guessing it will be worse as I go north? should I delay leaving or even getaway late today?
-
large snow flakes now in gloucester!

I love the idea of all these people sitting at a computer on a Sunday night typing that it is raining or about to rain. Isn't life great
Shows how rubbish the telly is on a sunday night now

Light Rain falling in Gloucester Now. Must be on the leading edge. Very humid as well.
-
Can certainly tell something is on its way.
Its very still and humid outside now AND i have one of those headaches i get when a storms coming ( normally thunder ) but i suppose in this case it isnt.
My Cat has gone all kinda strange this evening, wonder if he can sense something coming?

What happened to the aviation situation in the USA after Mt. Saint Helens erupted? Perhaps the current situation here in Europe is exaggerated?
Isn't it all do with how high the ash is? The current ash levels are at about 20,000ft which means that planes would need to fly through it to reach cruising altitudes of approx 35,000ft or to come into land.
Not sure how high the ash got with Mt Saint Helens but maybe it was higher and the planes could fly under the ash? Only guessing!

Hmmm. Well, irrespective of any snow risk fanaticism, the Sunday rapid cyclogenesis / Shapiro-Keyser event would be already enough, you would think, to keep any forum happy - it could be very nasty for NW Europe. Impact on Madeira, NW Iberia, NW France (let alone whatever it does here) could be very newsworthy. I've updated the blog on this - pls note UKMO lack of advisories is for a good reason at present (i.e., for Sunday - not this evening, which is gonna become decidely wet down south!).
Thanks again for your input Ian. always good to hear from experts. This might not be the right place but what does "cyclogenesis / Shapiro-Keyser event" mean?
Also, reading your blog, I see why the UKMO has not felt drawn into advisories for the Sunday. Fingers crossed for Madeira again.

Just had a quick peep in the Model forum, Won't for a minute and say I understand everything that is written in there (way over my head for my limited weather knowledge), but there does seem to be alot of discussion around potentially cold weather for next week (E/NE) with possible snow for South of England....
Just wondering if anyone with more knowledge than myself has any other views on this,
I totally understand in weather terms this is well into the future etc and so much can change
Ditto theprophecyman - I read it and pretend I understand
Seems as though they are thinking (IMO) that we may get an easterly wind after the rain/wind on Sunday and then another low pressure moves up and bumps into the cold easterly giving snow for the south. Blizzards were mentioned as well
Guess it could all change though
-
The metoffice have removed the heavy rain warnings for us on Friday now. Just today left. No warnings for the LOW on Sunday yet but notice Ian mentioned possibility of snow for us in his 9.30 forecast!?
-
Looks like that's it for the main band of PPN for us. Just the showers following on behind. Wonder what they hold for us?
-
Ooops! I shouldn't have posted that - it's suddenly stopped!
LOL, famous last words!! Big Flakes in Chelt again now, weird!
-
It will be interesting tos ee what thi s"other"band behind the main band is going to do.
Liek i said, Its changed form RAIN to snow with MASSIVE flakes here..
So the chance is there.
I was just thinking the same Lynxus. It's gone from Rain to Snow, thought it was supposed to be Snow to rain!
-
The drizzle here suddenly intensified and now we have... soggy snow coming down thickly. Radar shows it wont last but what a winter eh ?
The Forest of Dean and Cotswolds will get its usual covering no doubt...
John in Quedgeley, Gloucester.
yep - looks snowy in the forest! http://www.bbc.co.uk/gloucestershire/content/webcams/littledean_hill_webcam.shtml
-
finally snowing in Cheltenham but of course not settling!!!
-
rain with some sleet mixed in here in Chelt. Very light though.
-
Looking at the radar it looks like the heaviest PPN is going to the east and west of Bristol/Glos as it moves north
Lot's of showers following behind the main band of rain to the south west. Wonder if these will be thundery in nature?
