They are not 'firming up' on this.

There is very little in the ECM to support it as the Atlantic is not in abeyance and any high pressure at T240 is just as likely to get flattened by the Atlantic. There isn’t any support from the UKMO out to T168. Even the GFS operational is out on a limb with the idea, which anyway was out at T300 or so:

That doesn’t mean that the Atlantic won’t blow out. It might. And eventually it will. But please let’s not gild the lily. We have at least a week (could be a fortnight or more) of wild and mild according to the latest runs. By the time this hits at the end of this weekend, we’ll certainly know we’re back under the influence of Atlantic storms. It looks pretty serious:

It does indeed look serious and ought really to be taking more of our attention.

    Think you've misquoted Anthony...

You make the mistake of discussing the actual weather. This thread is only for discussing the weather in the models 😏

No mistake (been here long enough) the argument has been that the weather depicted in the models hadn't arrived, but it has. And that depicted yesterday is happening right now. Its perishing, no doubt about it and the models show that continuing for a good while yet.

This is how things have changed!

It was only a week ago people were saying that for the south it would be mainly dry and because of the DRY air and being a high pressure, they didn't see much in the way of snow. Also for the fact that the upper temps were not forecasted to be as cold as this and so widespread.

    Now look what's happened!

This is under a high pressure and it's much colder than first thought just a week ago :santa-emoji:

Indeed, Tight Isobar and others were correct, snow flurries here. Same bone dry nonsense comes out every year.

    UK high pressure illustrated again.

With the energy to the East, the cold will slide into Europe and beyond.

This feels like a likely outcome given where we are. Good thing is the HP will be quite sunny and mild, very few frosts in the SE.

Likely outcome 12 days out? Not sure about that. A possible outcome maybe.

Shortwaves interupt and spoil any cold from the North. So away from the hills and Northern parts of the UK it'll be a chilly but dull affair.

You know if spoilers are on the radar now they will sure as heck be there anchored between Scotland and Norway at real-time!

Chilly but dull is just fine, bt let's wait and see...
