Persistent contrails produced by aircraft have been studied for decades, for example:

They are more prevalent today for the simple reason that you you 'orrible lot insist on flying more and more and more. Although some more enlightened folk are looking at ways of reducing them:

Thank you for the very informative websites which I have read through after your instruction to read, learn and understand. I didn't find an answer why the flightspaths are nearly perfect grids. If these trails are left from scheduled flights I would have thought that they would follow a pattern of the same day/week etc. when weather conditions are more or less the same. However, I have an open mind on the matter and have seen and read some convincing reports both ways.

Father Christmas is real thank you very much! I bet his reindeer don't leave trails.

Last Thurs am I counted at least 24 trails over our area of North Cambs. They spread out and cover nearly the whole sky in a grid pattern, they take about 4 to 6 hours to disperse. A beautiful sunny day was ruined.

I woud suggest anyone interested could Google "Chemtrails" for some alternate explanations. One thing I am convinced of is that if this was water vapour then why would they take so long to disperse?

Its an idea to notify the cambs times about it. My mother in law "Maggie Gibson" is the senior reporter there. Ring them up, ask for her and tell her luke mudge put you on to her...im sure they'll run the story. Coincedently i saw a funnel cloud over march this year too, although much smaller than yours 01354 652621

Thanks, I am flattered that you think it is worthy of a mention in the paper, I did email the Citizen but they haven't replied, I think I will leave it at that though. I would just like to leave it on Netweather for people to see. If it was bigger, like the Lincolnshire one yesterday maybe I would have!

Yes it is my first...lot of things! Using the new video camera,(so lucky there was a tape in it) couldn't even manage to use playback until mid afternoon when my daughter talked me through it over the phone. learning to make it small, trying to upload it to Netweather badly, doing ordinary postings that I am not very confident with. Trying to upload the pictures to Netweather in a state of near panic. I was on my own when I saw it and had no-one to tell! I was bursting to share it with someone, as you can see from the pics...there is no-one here!

So glad I have managed to contribute something to the site.

[Storm Reports Wednesday 26th July 2006 Onwards]

Hi,

Just thought you might be interested in the quite violent storm we had here yesterday. My nearest town is March, North Cambs. The wind became near gale force for a while, the rain flooded from gutters like a waterfall and hails stones the size of large marbles. The thunder and lightening knocked out the power three times and I was forced to turn off my beloved computer for a while! I don't live near anything, there are only a few houses near me so I was wondering if it was just localised and I was lucky enough to be right in the firing line. My daughter works in Peterborough and only got a small shower. The hail stones were scary (I wasn't really scared!) as they were so loud on the conservatory roof which at one point, I thought may have shattered.

I am posting a picture I have taken of the hail stones but they were bigger than this, I had to wait for the hail/rain to stop before I could go out and hurdle some together and they had melted a bit. They were pure white when they were falling.

I hope I am doing the picture correctly, I am not sure how to do it. If it is wrong perhaps someone could talk me through the best way of doing it.
