  1. Arron wouldn't a lightning trigger do the job as well ?

    Tom

Yep it would Tom! Advantages to both I guess. With the trigger you should never miss a shot (though to me this is cheating somewhat lol!) and with the manual remote you can keep the shutter open when it's raining down bolts. I guess you can stack images too to get the same effect.

I can't say I'd fancy carrying around another camera body with a 300mm lens on it myself, Gail. Mind you, I will be behind the wheel so having just one camera in hand will be hard enough! Ian got some cracking shots with the compact camera he was trying to promote last year (samsung??) :D With today's compacts I'm sure you can probably get access to every manual setting under the sun :)

  2. Oh and all you new camera owners don't forget to buy a remote for the lightning shots at night! These are for the 3200 but do fit quite a range of nikons

    Basic one here - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Remote-Shutter-Release-Cord-Control-Cable-for-Nikon-MC-DC2-D3200-D90-UK-/141049185780

    Or a bit more advanced - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Time-Lapse-Intervalometer-Remote-Timer-Shutter-for-Nikon-D3100-D3200-D90-D600-UK-/221331284688

    :)

  3. I see this camera is in Currys and in stock.  I may purchase it.  I know nothing about cameras but need one for Tour 2.  Would I need to buy the SIGMA 70-300 mm f/4-5.6 DG Telephoto Zoom Lens that is recommended with the camera?  it costs an extra £95 but i'm not sure what the benefits are.  Cheers.

    Hi Ben

For what it's worth I use a 17-70 sigma lens for 90% of my shots out there and the rest with a 11-16 wide angle lens on my D5000. I have tried the longer lens I have but found it a waste of time. Changing a lens in a frantic rush while a tornado is on the ground and possibly missing it is enough for me not to stick it in the bag! IF you have more than one camera body though, you could always leave it attached :D

You can probably pick that lens up cheaper on ebay too.

    See you out there!!!!!!

  4. The annual get together of like minded weather geeks! Plenty of food, loads of drink and also plenty of storm porn!

This year it's in that GREAT country called WALES :pThere's plenty of room for camping in the garden and we also have loads of space in the house. So bring a sleeping bag and we'll find room for you :DOur post code is SY24 5HJ. Local train stations are Aberystwyth and Machynlleth and there are buses that drop off in Talybont. I'll be doing a few pick ups I would imagine though so can give anyone a lift as long as there's room :) Euston to Machynlleth is around the 4 hours mark. You don't have to have been on a storm chase to come either. These BBQ's are a great way of just meeting up with other weather enthusiasts, and who knows at the end of the night you may well want to come on a chase next year!Any questions just ask, and hopefully we'll see y'all in a few weeks!
