  1. I think Mr Hathaway is being a little disingenuous in saying that it is "still unremarkable compared to the long and deep solar minima of the late 19th and early 20th centuries". Why won't he say that it is remarkable for the period of (supposed) AGW that we are (supposedly) in? Mealy-mouthed as well as disingenuous, IMHO.
  2. Oh, you beat me to it! If we are at this point with 3 months of the year left, how might it be come the end of December, I wonder? PS I've just re-read the article and can answer my own question!!! Lowest in 100 years.....now that's going some!
  3. No, but (yeah, but!), I understand that August/September is the time of year that has the most meteor showers. I don't know the reason for this, though. 2006 was pretty phenomenal for such showers, IIRC.
  4. It's that NASA conference thing today, isn't it? I wonder when we will hear anything. Ah, right. The teleconference is at 12.30p.m. EDT. I think I am right in saying that that is 5.30p.m. our time. A tea-time treat, perhaps? Or a bit of indigestion?
  5. There seems to be (at least to my inexperienced eye!) an awful lot of earthquake activity going on. Is this the "normal" level of such ocurrences? As has been said.....such terrible loss of life. Talk of tens of thousands dead and they're just ordinary people, just like us, with families, just getting on with their everyday life and suddenly..... Very sad. Is there any connection whatsoever between earthquakes and volcanic eruptions? Sorry if I have wandered off topic!
  6. Cheers, Paul http://nwstatic.co.uk/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif 1167 366616 7671676166167767 Ummmmmm.......it doesn't seem to be working. I'll have a few more goes. 6667161716167 Nope. Is it because this is a laptop and the numbers are across the top, rather than at the side? I could say that I am a "totally stupid numbskull" but that is too kind a description for me when it comes to technology. 66167166716716861 http://nwstatic.co.uk/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif I've tried pressing them all together and with the alt before and aft, but it ain't working. 1161616161661766616167 Oh, well, I guess I'll never be a proper weather person then!
  7. I've tried the search engine but cannot find out how to do a "degree" symbol. I remember this being discussed yonks ago, but can't find it. I would like to look like a real weather person, so please cold someone let me know how to do it? I have to keep using O or 0 or o and I'd rather do it properly. Ta ever so much! Happy New Year.
  8. If I recall correctly, Winters in the early part of the nineties were very stormy affairs. I do remember that Christmases in particular were stormy.....people always seemed to be losing their electricity and were unable to cook their Christmas dinners.
  9. Lovely. Thanks SR But I will try not to lose my temper again, anyway!
  10. In the bit underneath posts are boxes called "reply" and "quote". Under my posts are also boxes called "delete" and "edit". Is this what appears under each persons' posts, on their own screen, IYKWIM? I'm getting paranoid because I lost my temper here recently and was wondering if it is some sort of "flag" for moderators to weed out troublemakers!
