The Hunt for Cold continues 02/01/19
dinger replied to phil nw.'s topic in Spring Weather Discussion
Morning. I don't post much but I thought it would be prudent to remind those that are a bit pessimistic of our chances of a severe spell of cold weather that winter 1947 did not start until January 23rd and lasted until the middle of March. Snow fell somewhere in the UK every day for 55 consecutive days. After having read the brilliant post by 62-63 last night I am hopeful that something similar may be just around the corner. Have a good one. -
Scotland/Alba Regional Weather Discussion 23/04/17 onwards
dinger replied to BlueHedgehog074's topic in Regional
Don't post much, but been here since 2005 and can honestly say from a selfish point of view that next week holds more potential for my part of Scotland than any other event in the last 12 years. I am genuinely excited. northerlies, north easterlies, easterlies and most other directions provide diddly squat here so i am hoping next week brings back memories of the '80's when snow days were a semi frequent occurrence. Its sad that my children want to experience their first snow day before they finish their education when I had so many. Next week might be the week. -
Model Output Discussion - 05/01/2016 18z onwards
dinger replied to Captain Shortwave's topic in Forecast Model Discussion
Just had the best snowfall locally in years. Forecast was for possible light rain from the skirting edge of a small front but not 3 inches of snow. My point in relation to the models is if the met office couldn't forecast it and the models didn't show it at 6hrs out ,what chance have they of being accurate 144 hrs out? -
Usual depth of snaw here. Nothing, nada, nowt, f*@k all. The moon is oot and there's nae ring aroon it, so we've nae chance. Yoos beasties in the easties enjoy yer snaw. It's guid tae hear that some folk are enjoying it.

Scotland Regional Discussion - Cold Spell Part 1
dinger replied to kold weather's topic in Spring Weather Discussion
Hopefully with the continued westward movement of the block the high will shift far enough west to leave Scotland in the battleground scenario with a stalling front bringing us a prolonged period of heavy snow. Cat  or Judith ? who would you be prepared to bring a broken pay packet home to? -
Scotland Regional Discussion - January Part 2

My phrase of the winter so far has to be "meteorological purgatory" used by our own Dante Alighieri, LS in the model thread. He's ours and we're keeping him. What a man -
http://expert-images...121806_1712.gif looks like there could be some white stuff overnight Uppers look OK http://expert-images.weatheronline.co.uk/daten/proficharts/en/nae/2011/12/17/basis12/ukuk/t850/11121803_1712.gif Dew point good http://expert-images.weatheronline.co.uk/daten/proficharts/en/nae/2011/12/17/basis12/ukuk/taup/11121806_1712.gif P.S Thanks for adding me to the map

LOL. Reminded me of fenton that. Should have added "freezin' ice" at the end to top me over the edge

It was forecast it was only because Mr Hammond chose to focus the UK national weather forecast from the Midlands southward that you didn't see it :smilz38:

Just sleet here Nov13 but turning ever more wintry. Hopeful that the dew point will drop sufficiently enough to turn it to snow. Radar indicating it's making steady progress north so you might get some yourself. Only 150ft asl here

http:// Could this be the first signs of MB's storm. Albeit 2 days early
-
I agree that it would be nice to know his methods, curiosity being part of our nature. However to invite others in to refine or dismiss a method as yet undisclosed is like IBM inviting Bill gates to view revolutionary software prior to applying for the patent. MB is merely proofing a method of forecasting. He does not need to disclose anything. All of us with an interest in this will no doubt be asking further questions should the forecast verify and once again I think MB will keep his methods private. If he continues to be accurate with further forecasts then he will be worthy of any rewards he might receive. If his forecasts fail miserably then he has lost nothing other than time. Let's wait and see what happens

Now What Does The Rest Of The Winter Hold For Us?
dinger replied to Mr Freeze's topic in Spring Weather Discussion
Looking forward to the replies to this statement Mr. F. Good one -
It certainly looks like the ridge has linked with the Siberian High at T120. Hopefully we'll see the high flatten out in the rest of the run and bring in the bitter cold pooling up in the east. Only the one run mind you. Could and will change again

You might need one once catch junior number 3 arrives. Hopefully it will be our turn midweek for a momentous frontal event, before another reload of extreme cold. Need to go, the nurse has just came in with my tablets -

With analogies like that, it can't be long before the men in white coats come and take you away catch! I mean Turkeys, Cuckoo!!! -
There is nothing stopping this game from going ahead other than the fact that no public organisation is willing to accept the financial responsibilty should a tragic accident occur. This is a litigious society we live in and unfortunately accidents and personal responsibility are no longer recognised as part of our culture. There is no crime being committed by any person wishing to go ahead and have a curling match on the loch. The emergency services will respond if necessary as they have a duty to do. In my opinion there is far less risk to life than those numpties that think mountain climbing is safe at this time of year. Go ahead and have your game, there is nothing anybody can do to stop you

Morning everyone. Thought I would post a summation from GP in the Technical thread regarding the continuation of the cold spell for those worried that things may be about to come to an end. "So the analysis of the last two days is consistent with an Atlantic attack from the south-west with the cold block remaining in place. The snow threat increases considerably next week but these are likely to be trigger mechanism for height rises to the north to pull west. There may be some erosion at the margins but I would favour the block to largely remain and cold weather to remain entrenched the for at least the north and east of the UK, possibly all parts. Thereafter, the next reload to arrive from the NE ?" He's been pretty much spot on all winter and with a continuation of the NAO and AO remaining firmly negative I have to agree that we are set to remain in the cold for some time to come

I wonder how low the temps would go if the high pressure settles over us??

Lots of big beefy things in the North Sea - Take the day off school young man
-
It looks like it's heading West Ross. Half an hour ago I thought it was coming straight at us. Maybe just have to rely on the Tay/Forth Streamers then
-
It is a proper surprise but only if you watch the bloody biased c***s(BBC) forecast which has shown nothing for here for two days. I'm not watching it again Alright maybe just the 4 times a day then
