Thunderstorm Over The Mendips
stormchaser1 replied to MP-R's topic in Archived weather photography area
Nice pictures thanks for sharing Nigel -
NL Nice pictures, Whilst i was in the garden today, we saw quite a few aircraft, helicopters as well, heading from Boulmer down to the airshow, the flight path is in that direction, unfortunately we never saw the Red Arrows, usually they fly right over us, but this year for some unknown reason , they went in another direction, we could hear them , but not see them Nigel

I used to live down in Appleton Avenue, Anyway we used to go to the Barr Beacon when we use to be on the Cb radios , now i am showing my age Not sure how high the Barr Beacon actually is but its a great viewing place
-
Evening Simon Nice pictures, which part of the Barr Beacon were you at, i spent many a day up there, in my younger days, its a very good advantage point to watch the storms coming in , but only disadvantage is that there is no shelter apart from your car!, I used to live down the road , by the Scott Arms

stormchaser1 replied to Koppite's topic in Spring Weather Discussion
A much welcome relief today here in the North East, yes the SUN keeps popping out , fROM BEHIND THOSE cUMULUS CLOUDS WHICH KEEEPI DRIFTING ACROSS, Temperature is a rather pleasant 18.1c at the moment, with a Gentle WNW breeze {will not last for long though} rain on the way this afternoon Im currently in the garden in just shorts and vest, trying to get the front garden sorted, We really need a decent dry spell, so i can get the lawns cut -
MW radio still crackling every now and again, also dogs barking like anything across the road, NO THUNDER yet though However there are more heavy showers passing through at the minute, total amount of rain for month now accumulated to 123.2mm most of that accumulated yesteday NIGEL

I have recorded 44.5mm here in Gosforth , which is about 6 mile east from The airport and about 3 mile NW from the city Further North around Morpeth have been hit bad again , and further south around Durham Flooding virtually everywhere in the North East, roads closed rivers ready to burst their banks, if they havent already Believe me its a nightmare out there
-
Evening Everyone No thunder heard today so far anyway. However Since 0400hr this morning i have recorded a whopping 44.0mm rain , This has got to be one of the most accumulated rain fall i have recorded in one day since i moved here 9 years ago. Lots of roads closed around the North East due to flooding, and its still raining , believe me its a nightmare out there

I am not looking forward to today one bit, Rain has started already . 1.5mm in the last hour, according to the charts up to 50mm could be expected for the North East today!, already recorded 75.6mm so far this month which is well above average, and we have only had 16 days so far! No Thunder as of yet, but that will arrive, just like the wind -

stormchaser1 replied to West Sussex Kate's topic in Storms & Severe Weather
Well after a glorious morning, the heavens opened , and boy did they open, around !515hrs this afternoon we had torrential rain, and en a clap of thunder, and lightning. When i arrived home in Gosforth, i checked my rain gauge and i had recorded 12.5mm rain in between 1515 and now, Roads are flooded all over the North East, and it looks as though we are going to get worse tomorrow morning nigel -
Nothing materializedd again today , thats 3 days where the charts have suggested some decent cape for the North East and nothing has happened, we did have a shower earlier , but nothing exciting, oh well back to the drawing board! Mark i had a text message last night , from one of my mates who said there was lightning seen in Dipton
-
Lets hope this produces the storms Cape charts this week have suggested storms possible {monday and Tuesday just gone} however no Thunder heard or no lightning seen, Had reports of Lightning in a place called Dipton last night More rain fell last night/ this morning bringing the total to 58.5mm so far {already this month} June and July have been the wettest months so far this year for the North East
-
Anyone getting any activity possibly around Stanhope , wolsingham area Just had reports of heavy rain in Consett {from my daughter]
-
4.6MM last hour , still No thunder though
-
Evening Rainy Send it East across the Pennines lol saying that we do have rain , but thats all at the moment , 3.1mm in the last hr
-
Well i am a bit dissapointed to say the lease, after seeing the charts and skew charts this morning i expected more than a a few showers which lasted for about 5mins if that, Skew charts projected CAPE of 900 for my region today , The other week we only had CAPE of around 500 and we had a terrific storm Oh well suppose there is still time for something to develop but i cant see it happening now{we will see}
