  1. Thanks guys for some really interesting and honest replies.. Well, us musicians are no wiser, so if you lot are in the dark about it, we've no chance. I must say that Corbyn talks the talk to the layman , but I wanted to know if he also walked the walk as far as you guys are concerned. A bit like the music biz.. There is enough stuff on you-tube re guitar tuition to sink a battleship, but most of it is complete crap, stuck on there by amateurs. My youngest sons fiance is Russian and her dad is sending me over an officers Ushenka to wear, so I can take our two German shepherds out for a walk without my ears falling off from frostbite when Corbyns sub artic temperatures hit in January. They laugh over there and say they probably don't go out much in Moscow if it falls below -30. -30.. You've got to be kidding.. I stay in if it drops past -3 here in west Dorset.. Anyway thanks again folks and if any of you ever need any guitar related tips don't hesitate in asking...
  2. Ok I'm a musician and we were having this debate on the Les Paul forum, except no bugger really knew what they were talking about re weather, ( Including me ) So I'll ask this question in laymans terms. So what is actually happening with all this Gore C02 thing and that global warming is all a big scam. You look at one site and it says we are heading for global warming. You look at another and it says a new ice age is on it's way.. Duhhhhhhhh! Piers Corbyn, who they say was the only person to get the weather right last year seems under the impression that there is some big scam going on and that we are heading for a new mini ice age. I haven't a clue, so I'd like to hear what some of you guys have to say about the whole thing. What actually is happening. Are we heating up because of all mans C02 emissions, or are we cooling down as Corbyn suggested, as C02 according to him doesn't cause circulation patterns and solar activity Minimum sunspots etc ) are pointing toward very cold future weather. I'll pass on your thoughts to the musos of the world.. So what do you guys make of what this guy says?
  3. Brilliant.. As a professional musician my weather forecasting skills leave much to be desired to say the least, but your post was about the most refreshing thing I have read, or understood for that matter. Atlantic lows...Jet streams etc etc?? The MET office have all this equipment and still can't manage to get it right. I live in the wilds of west Dorset and the only person who got it right last year was an 80 year old local yokel farmer we know, who after pointing to a multitude of fauna and decribing the habbits of the animals on the farm in broad Darzet speak, got it spot on long before the weather satellites picked it up. ( Well at least over Dorset anyway ). I just read your post to my wife who thought your wife was spot on, but then I suppose she would wouldn't she? She reckons there has been a multitude of berries this year and also said it's not only how many berries there are, but how fast they dissapear from the hedgerows as the wildlife either gobble them up to store fat or hoard them away. I asked her if it was female logic, which as one might guess, went down like a pork chop at a Jewish wedding.. She was not ammused. Anyway after last year I think I'll give the MET office and their weather satellites a wide birth and put my money on the ladies. P.S.. Have you also noticed how the weather people on TV never mention Dorset? They seem to spend an aweful lot of time talking about rainfall patterns in Burton-On-Trent, the Cheshire gap and the Irish sea. but merely pass us by with a sweep of the hand. The bloody council tax charges down here are one of the highest in Britain and as all I have is my dustbins emptied. ( No street lights. mains sewerage, gas, or buses ) I think for £2,500 a year I'd at least be entitled to a mention on TV.
  4. You are more than welcome to have what we've got down here...
  5. Oh yeah...Bloody marvelous.. About 4 inches here in west Dorset.. I was hoping the wretched stuff might go somewhere else.. Great that's me down £200 on work tomorrow if I can't get in...I need this crap like a hole in the head.
  6. One of joys of living in South West Dorset.... We missed it...
  7. West Dorset...Dry thank heavens..And continuing so I sincerely hope.
  8. As long as the blasted stuff stears clear of West Dorset ( Which it will ) I won't be worried where it goes...LOL
  9. Please someone tell me..West Dorset will NOT get any snow..I need that like a bloody hole in the head where I live right up in hills and the sticks. Well! It hasn't snowed here for years now, so I'm expecting it not to. ( I sincerely hope ). I watched the BBC..Sky..etc, and they all say something different.. Lets' just hope they are wrong as usual..LOL
  10. He also predicts the end of the earth courtesy of the Hadron collider which will be switched on this year. If you don't know what that is, see thread Hadron collider. Nostradamus C9 Q44 Migrés, migrés de Geneue trestous. Saturne d'or en fer se changera, Le contre RAYPOZ exterminera tous, Auant l'aduent le ciel signes fera. Leave, leave Geneva every last one of you, Saturn will be converted from gold to iron, "Raypoz" will exterminate all who oppose him, Before the coming the sky will show signs.
  11. Not that I believe in this stuff, as he got a load of other things wrong, but one of Nostradamus's predictions reads.. Also the the Mayan calendar stops at the end of the year 2012, churning up all sorts of religious, scientific, astrological and historic reasons why this calendar foretells the end of life as we know it.... 4 years in the future.. Ironically Just about the right time for a micro black hole to grow large enough to gobble up the planet. Oh what happened to the simple days eh?.....LOL
  12. Well I started all this off and now everyone has gone right over my head.. I'm a bit behind some of you guys to put it mildly , so I tend to watch these videos for a layman's view.. That's about my level..I noticed that one of the physics teachers in a school I go to uses these videos in class. Mmmmm About my level I suppose.LOL.. Very interesting although, the bit about observing electrons and them virtually having a mind of their own lost me somewhat, as with the second video and the bit about one electron on one side of universe acting instantly like it's partner on the othe side of the universe. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5poD3nXdJ8...feature=related
  13. ..Yeah it is hard to comprehend. I read all this stuff in bed, but am still no wiser. I wonder if there will ever come a time in mankinds existance when they will know eaxtly what it's all about. How the universe came into being and what/where ( if anything ) did it come from. Are we ( Our universe ) small in comparison to other universes? Are we large? Where did it all start and where will it all end? I should imagine there is an answer, but everytime you cross one hurdle, you come up against another. Could there be an ultimate final hurdle somewhere along the line? Does there need to be and if not why? It just shows you how much we really know about why we exist, or why we exist at all for that matter. Fascinating! Phil.
  14. I read it, plus the universe in a nutshell and a whole other bunch of books, but as a musician I can't say I was that much wiser in the final analysis. I have to read the same paragraph about twenty times before it starts to sink in.. But at least as a layman I'm having a go I suppose. The Physics teachers in all the schools I go to look blankley when I start going on about modes and their use within contemporary music, so I don't feel too bad:lol:
  15. The point is that they don't know what they'll find as no one has ever done this experiment before. If they knew exactly what they'd find they would have never built a mutli billion project like this. Like most scientific things, they theorise about what they'll find, but they can't be certain untill they have opened the door so to speak. They hope to create conditions at around the first millionth or so of a second after the big bang. What happens when these particles collide at just below the speed of light and just what it creates, or does not create in a lab I suppose remains to be seen.. fascinating stuff, but a bit scary, us this is uncharted waters.
  16. Yeah that's a good video Red raven, although I'm not sure who that guy is. Obviously one can get info from all areas out there, from the flat earth society to the JW's.. I have tried to find neutral info on it and the least biased seems to be a BBC Horizon documentary.. Worth watching. I'm just amazed how many people out there haven't a clue to what the LHC is, when it's probably the biggest event in science in this century and the last. My only worry is something one guy says.. 'Science is what we do, when we don't know what we are doing'... :o Phil.
  17. Yeah, I was talking to the physics teacher at a private school I visit to teach guitar and he said the same thing about particles hitting the earth all the time. He was going on about creating a small wormhole and people in the future seeing it, with the knowledge to open it up. In other words the first time travellers. First meaning that you can only go back in time to the point where the first time machine was invented..Or created in a lab in this case. I don't think he meant people popping out of it, but maybe in a message. Interesting and frightening stuff though and yes someone is trying to take a lawsuit out to stop them firing it. I'm a musician and not a physics teacher, but I do try to read up a lot about things like this, even if 99% of the time it goes above my head.. And makes my wife yawn.
  18. Ok they are spooling up the voltage to fire of this monster hopefully in June-Sept. The problem seems to be no one seems to know what they'll find or create when they collide particles at sub light speed. Find the elusive Higgs Bosun?.. Create a micro black hole that will devour the earth by 2012. Open up a wormhole and say hello to future time travellers. There certainly seems to be a lot of controversy surrounding all this. Any personal views on the matter..Or anti matter ?..
  19. Yeah I have seen a few over west Dorset last year. All in the space of a few weeks, but I must admit I have never seen any since.
  20. I bloody well hope it doesn't. I'm going to the cinema with the wife tonight. Well, I suppose the consolation is that as we are only a few miles from the south coast here in west Dorset, we'll be the last to know about it. At the moment it's as dry as a bone down here.. Daffs and bluebells in the hedgerows.. Let's hope it stays like that.
  21. How about West Dorset.. I'm begining to forget what snow looks like down here.
  22. Update ..West Dorset.. 3.40pm.. All heavy snow now turned to light sleet and everything has melted on ground. As if nothing had ever happened. Phil.
  23. New update... West Dorset.... 1.20 pm Still very heavy snow. Large flakes.. Starting to settle on ground and hedges slightly now, but melting on roads and roofs. Phil.
  24. Bucketing down with snow up here in the hills, near Blackdown in Dorset ( 11 miles north of LymeRegis ) .....But thankfully..( For me that is. Sorry folks) not settling. Large flakes though. Hi.. Felow Dorsetarians
