  1. Mid minus 20’s is the limit to my cold happiness. Which is the forecast for Canmore region. Edmonton looking like minus 30’s though. That’s not fun
  2. Whiteout conditions at the moment with around 10cm fallen since this morning. Pics don’t do it justice but one webcam is picking up the conditions well ...
  3. Well 4ft was certainly an underestimate. Though still stand by that little snow will fall on Sunday. 77 inches recorded this morning at Orchard Park, which is where the Buffalo Bills stadium is. And coincidentally their QB ( Josh Allen) is 77 inches tall. So he’s be buried. I’d have thought it would have be in the 80’s by the time it moved north today. Plus forecasts of more lake effect snows returning and maybe it could take it close to, or over, 90 inches! Just Crazy! Here’s hoping!!!
  4. Hamburg hitting 42 inches but reports just coming in that a few places have just hit the 4ft mark... Some of the pictures coming out of the area are just insane...
  5. Hamburg just hit 37 inches - up 3 inches in just over an hour. Buffalo downtown pretty much escaping but south towns being slammed. If anything it looks like moving south a little before moving North and affecting Buffalo central and further north (north towns) and into Canada/US border like a Niagara. A total travel ban for most areas south of downtown Buffalo.
  6. Reports now that Hamburg has reached almost 3 feet of snow already and recorded 5 inches per hour, along with thundersnow. With this event set to go all day into the evening then at those rates and the duration left there’s going to be some eye popping totals
  7. Just posted this in the specific thread for this event but pertinent for this thread also. The lake effect snow has been marching up Lake Eerie the last few hours and will be hitting mainly south of buffalo in the next few hours. https://www.accuweather.com/en/us/buffalo/14202/weather-radar/349726 It won’t be on the scale of ‘Snowvember’ - a huge snow event exactly 8 years ago today. Then a band hit just south of buffalo for round 1(about 3 ft) , moved north and then moved back south for round 2. (For about another 3ft) - some areas reached 7 ft of snow! This time it’ll only be mainly round 1 and a weakened round 2 - still enough for 3-4 ft. But it will move north and then South again but with little impact towards the end. I’d say 3.5ft-4.5ft for prime areas just south of Buffalo maybe between Hamburg and Angola if I had to guess. (Would anyone like to stick their neck out and say 5ft will be reached?) Its due to start in southlands in next few hours through Friday. Then Buffalo downtown Friday through Saturday. Moving north and then moving south with less snow by Sunday morning. Sunday for the Bills game would likely have had little snow, but the logistics of hosting the game after having had up to 4 ft of snow means it’s been moved to Detroit. Also there’s a good chance of thundersnow and rates of up to 5 inches per hour in the heaviest falls. Quite an experience. The snow watch starts now. If you can download Buffalo WGRZ news/weather they have full 24/7 coverage of the Storm.

  9. That’s a shame - Maybe the cold and snow got to him it’s definitely a shame as I agree - enjoyed his banter, great pics and weather insight
  10. Does anyone know if CatchMyDrift is OK? Haven’t seen him post on here for a long time and can’t find him on the site (if he’s blocked me fair enough lol but thought I’d ask) (I’ve not seen some of my family for years but will check in on people on here - shows the power of the net weather community)
  11. Currently minus 23 at 10am. Was a cold night with temps around minus 28 but wind chill in the minus 30’s. It looks like it’s on the turn from here on in with temps forecast to be close to freezing during the day and night time temps a ‘balmy’ minus 9 by the weekend lol
  12. Sunshine village, Banff was the first ski resort to open in Canada this year. Great conditions ... not surprising with nearly a metre a snow in the last week.
  13. Indeed back to back to back snowfall Warnings. Though it hasn’t delivered much on the snowfall totals, it’s certainly seasonal
  14. It’s already here. Lots of snow and minus 20 overnight. More snow coming and close to minus 30 with wind chill forecast...and that’s in the afternoon
  15. Another snowfall warning - predominantly a foothills affair. This is maybe the 5th warning in the past few weeks. Each time the snow totals have been getting a bit closer to the forecast. 10-20 cm’s forecast this time...
  16. Minus 18 recorded last week and prediction of minus 40 around Jan/Feb
  17. Yup pretty much snow everyday for the next week in Canmore. We’ve got another snowfall warning of up to 35cm. Don’t believe it though as it’s the 3rd warning in a week and we got diddly squat the last few times.
  18. It’s certainly getting later and later - that must appeal to you and your dislike of winter Another snowfall warning for Canmore. I can’t see it as they’ve got the last few warnings totally wrong.
  19. This would be Monnow Street, Monmouth. Wales
  20. Winter is finally setting in ..... lots of snow and cold on the horizon. Maybe 30cm’s of snow over the week and lows in the minus teens. (Mind you when it’s minus 30 I’ll be saying now it’s winter proper lol)
  21. Depending on the location of course, but in north Kent, 1987 it was the holy grail. Colder and certainly a lot snowier than any other event. Over 2 feet, where as 1991 was snowy with about a foot and cold but no where near ‘87 for my location of the North Downs. A memory I have of 1987 was waking up 3 days in a row to see all trace of the previous days activities and footprints gone in the morning with a fresh layer of deep snow. Something I don’t think I’ve witnessed since. Even in Canada
  22. What a difference a day makes...Fall to Winter. Warning upgraded for up to 25cm. Certainly can’t see that around Canmore due to melt but still have today and tonight.
  23. As I’m in here a lot during winter checking out webcams for good ol Scottish snow I thought I’d return the favour. Snowstorm warning of up to 20cm over the weekend for Canmore - so if you’re missing your fix of snow feel free to view about 7 different webcams in town. Canmore Alberta Canada Live Webcams | CanmoreAlberta.com CANMOREALBERTA.COM It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words. CanmoreAlberta.com's Webcams show views around Town 24/7. Come back often, see what's happening, check our weather, or just enjoy the... My gut is 8-10cm based on the last months warm weather and potential for early snowmelt, but that’s also based on many times being disappointed of getting none or nowhere near the top end forecast. No different to the British forecasts Have a great weekend
  24. I would have thought it would continue all year? As water can evaporate in warmer or colder conditions, otherwise puddles wouldn’t dry up lol. Plus sublimation occurs during winter when snow evaporates. Slightly different though as thats a solid to gas rather than liquid to gas.
  25. The Indian summer in the Rockies is ending with a bang. Not a thunderstorm bang but a snowstorm bang. The first snowfall warning of the season has been issued. Some regions might get up to 20cm’s. It’s coming....
