  1. Ooh looking on the radar and there's actually a blot of cloud over Leeds, it might not be the Pennines storm that I could see. Might turn into something, possibly further north around Otley. It's notably more overcast than it was.
  2. I can see the eastern edge of the Pennines storm, it's just blotted out the sun.
  3. Low 20's up here with a high humidity. Not been outside yet, having chest issues with the pollen.
  4. Up here it's cloudy with hazy sun. I think i'm too far east and north for anything storm related. Looking forward to seeing where the storms appear later though!
  5. I have to battle my elderly father who likes opening the windows during the day and closing them at night. I tend to open the bathroom and spare bedroom windows again once he goes to bed.
  6. Met app now shows thunder icon for tomorrow, was showing it as overcast/cloudy with storm icons for mid afternoon. Will see what happens, it's been hard to get decent storms up here for a while.
  7. I've seen one of those before when driving. Very eerie.
  8. Met office shows storms for me tomorrow afternoon. It'll probably disappear by the morning....
  9. Wonder if we'll get to 30 in some locations then?
  10. I just limit the time I spend outside. It's easier as the breathing rapidly becomes a problem.
  11. Not really looked, tried it once and ended up getting ridiculed at work sites (carparks) so never bothered. The culture here is so toxic to things against the normal, when I was in the USA in 2012 I could wear a hat and clip on sunglasses all day with no issues.
  12. Oh I hide inside when I can...mostly as I find the sunny weather too bright and I tend to get migraines and stuff.... I'm sure I was a vampire in a past life XD!
  13. Leeds Uni station is rapidly getting to 28C. Stations on the Wunderground map outside of the centre are passing 28 but accuracy on these is likely nowhere near correct... It's breezy here too. Good luck for those in the storm zones! Hopefully some interesting photos show up later.
  14. According to the Leeds Uni station on Wunderground, it's nudging 24/25ºC here. Glorious strong sun which is so good for my solar. Free A/C till sunset.
  15. My trick for the house is to keep curtains on South/West facing windows shut from midday, keep east facing curtains shut till the sun moves away and keep windows open on both sides if it's safe to do so. I also add a fan that I leave on 24/7 infront of an open window for airflow too. I need to look at a whole house extraction fan in the upstairs landing ceiling. That will make a massive difference. If you're lucky to have a passing storm, the updraft can cool the house well.
  16. It's returned back here too, heating turned itself on as well as I forgot to lower the thermostat..... Looking forward to plenty of sun. Even at the moment with the cloud the fig tree is so full with fruit.
  17. Thank you for posting temperatures, I miss seeing them like this in the model thread!
  18. It's got sunny here. Quite a nice evening coming up. Hopefully the upcoming weather brings out a few bbq's over the weekend. Storms can wait as i've got building work going on in the back garden.....
  19. Heat, humidity and possible storms. Got my inhalers at the ready.....
  20. Something I notice alot during the opressive heatwaves in my day job, is a notable rise in short tempers. So many seem one delay from loosing their control and many do loose their control.
  21. Most of the wall units will do heat/cool. Keywords are inverter heat pump as you get more in return for your electric consumption. I was looking into it as a viable option to replace the CH and not get a system locked to heating water.
  22. Fitting needs to be done by qualified A/C installers. I think you can buy precharged split systems for decent prices which are charged for a preset line length and the outdoor units can accomodate more than one indoor unit. There's 2 refridgerant hoses, one condensate drain hose and a power feed per indoor unit. I keep eyeing them up here but the neighbours would notice the condensor hum at night, it gets too quiet to hide it. Portables are ok, they will keep the room to the low 20's, colder just taxes them and costs more in electric. Mine is a twin hose (imported from Germany). Single hose units will generate negative air pressure. They pull in air from the open window or if that's sealed well, an open door. I would prefer to leave a gap in the window as the unit will be below it so technically it's better than having it pull in air from the rest of your house! The unit's cold part will keep the hot air it draws through the window around the unit if that makes sense. It wastes power but it's the better of two evils on portables. Can cool the room down before sleep, turn it off for sleep, turn it on in the morning and fall asleep again when the room temp is cosy for a douvet....
  23. There's alot of debate on A/C use..... one thing I notice with our old houses that are built built using clay bricks is they like to retain heat in summer which radiates out at night like a storage heater and there's no natural ventilation. That's what makes them so uncomfortable in summer. They have the opposite in Winter with the bricks absorbing the cold, a constant fight with the heating inside. Adapting them for a/c is possible but not practical for a US style central ducted system. Mini split systems are possible. You can get wall/floor mounted ones that will fit in a fireplace as well as the traditional cassette type wall units. Pipework is the issue inside and outside, the unit will be quite large with two pipes per indoor unit, for a 4-6 way multi-split system. It'll cost about £1200/room. The outside unit can suck more power than an electric shower. I prefer to have one cool room that I can escape to. It'll irritate neighbours as we're not accustomed to the hum of compressors. Houses in countries that get hot and stay hot are designed and built to use natural cooling.
  24. Decent storms without the damaging lighting/rain would be nice. Been so long since we had a good one like that. Am interested in late May as i'm at a convention in Birmingham for the last weekend of May. The overnight storm of 2018 was awesome to watch, looking over the lake from the room. Also, i'd like plenty of Sun. It gives us the tasty stuff to eat later on in the year and it runs the solar high enough to give me free A/C (I usually keep the indoor temp in the low 20's). I kinda rely so much on accessing A/C with my breathing being as bad as it is.
