  1. Must admit, having the coverage we do of warnings is better than it not being mentioned.

I usually hear about warnings and then follow things on here. I suspect alot of the public will hear of warnings in the news and then watch the forecasts themselves.

The hype which desensitises people isn't because of storm naming or warning, it's because of how things are reported.

When you have the likes of the Express with their exact date a wall of snow will bring armageddon, it's hardly surprising people don't take storm warnings seriously.

    Yes. This.

Currently working in Leeds and rain is starting. Glad I will be at home in an our or so.

It’s winter here in the UK.

A storm can be a storm without being historic.

A cold spell can be a cold spell without being historic - as we have just seen.

Would it benefit us to return to a time when forecasts were forecasts without hype?

I agree with this so much.

Too much hype will desensitise people. When something comes around like tonight, there's a risk of people thinking it's more of the same.

  4. I've optimised mine for efficiency and cost without making the house cold for my father.  The house ranges from 18.5ºc to about 21ºc and i've made good use of the thermostat programmes!

My bedroom on the other hand has it's own heating from the PC with the VR rig going every night!  The radiator isn't set high and if I slide the window shut, it'll get uncomfortable unless there's strong westerlies.

Just outside the warning area for the 24th. The 28th and 29th look like a repeat of Thursday. However since it's a holiday it'll be low impact so there shouldn't be any warnings. Me being sarcastic.

I dunno, looking on the charts page for max gusts it shows the reds move in for the south and then they move up in the early hours to our area on the 28th. Keeping an eye on it.

Trying to find out how windy it'll be on Christmas Eve given the warning that appeared. Just looks like a brief spell of wind, bit like what'll be happening during the afternoon on Monday....😉
