  1. After going to Hull then Bradford, one thing to say: Please, no rear fogs in rain. The pretty red light turns into lots of tiny red stars and is very nauseating. They're made for dense fog not spray. Anyway, putting that aside, I've been occasionally catching up with what's going on. Thinking of anyone in flood zones and please be safe.
  2. Kinda curious what the impact will be for Yorkshire. Busy week of callouts.
  3. Mine has never been off.... the off setting on the thermostat resets itself so all I do is just turn down the boiler's water temp for the radiators over Summer. I've recently turned it back to 62ºC.
  4. I heard that here as I was going to work. Wondering what the winds are going to be like tomorrow round these parts. I think the street has a sweepstake on how long the driveway gate survives...
  5. Each season has it's perks and pains but if I had to choose between Summer heat or a marginal wet Winter's day, i'd probably choose the Summer because it's less disruptive in my day job.
  6. All I want is a decent breeze to cool the house down and some decent rain to wash the solar panels. The A/C cost last week was £45, solar feed in from the roof is poor as the panels are very dirty. A/C may come back out today when I finish work. I put it away and opened the window for some air but the sun still has quite the bite still.
  7. I've noticed the local met forecast has removed the storm symbols for later this afternoon.
  8. Even if I don't get a storm later today, i'll be happy after the light show earlier.
  9. I can see this to my east/south east now. Looks awesome, even this far away!
  10. I had a curry this evening, went down so well!
  11. Just looked around here, too many houses and trees to see any distant lightning.
  12. It feels like it's cooled down here, was out earlier doing tyre checks on father's car. Returned out to put the a/c back to how he likes it and i'm sure it feels cooler than it did earlier.
  13. I'm thinking the same thing but not getting my hopes up just yet....
  14. Curious what the storm potential is tomorrow, though I don't expect anything here given the warning area......
  15. Those don't work. they're tiny swamp/evaporative coolers. They make indoor humidity skyrocket. Proper evaporative coolers may work outside if the humidity is low enough. Indoors, these type of coolers work best with through airflow and low humidity.
  16. I'm glad and very fortunate that we got the July we did, it made a massive month long project in Sunderland way, way less stressful and enjoyable. At home I just run the a/c and forget about the outside. This weekend I won't open the curtains or leave my bedroom.... partly heat, partly decompressing after another stressful week at work. Heat just makes the day job alot more stress inducing.
  17. In reality i'll probably just check local laws and get a mini split in my room, or replace the current 8 year old Trotec twin hose portable, i'll probably get a spare one over winter and store it in the spare bedroom. My electric bill is high anyway, I don't even try and conserve. I usually don't seal up the exhaust on single hose units as they create negative air pressure which results in hot air coming in from the home via any opening to the outside in the house. I'd rather place the unit below a window, put the hose out and leave a gap for it to draw in air to replace what it exhausts. Need min 10-12000BTU unit for that to work well. Anything smaller won't cope.
  18. I'm researching proper heat pumps, not the half a heatpump system that the Gov are pestering us to get. I want a heat pump that will do heat and cold. Future plan it... It would necessitate the removal of all the radiators and convert the house to an air based heat/cool system. In these homes, that won't be simple with the location challenges with a ducted USA style system. Indoor cassette units in every room would look ugly both inside and outside with the numerous linesets.
  19. I do deliberately wear a fleece, though I took the jacket off. Stops sunburn and it's no hotter... infact it's a little cooler as it blocks the sun. It doesn't half trigger people. It's not intentional.... I keep my jacket with me as it's got the asthma meds and other stuff in it.
  20. Infrastructure would probably start to fatigue after a week.... likely unmaintained a/c outdoor units overheating and stuff.
  21. My new work car was terrible, the front windows are not solar shielded and it was literally a greenhouse on wheels. I had to pay for a local firm to solar tint the windows, made a massive difference. I miss the last car, the a/c was never turned off.
  22. I gave in and have had the a/c running 24/7 since Tuesday night, set to 23ºC. That's not because I necessarily hate the heat, I can cope to a degree (pun intended) with ibuprofen to keep migraines at bay. I simply won't sleep well enough. something I don't want as my job needs me to be alert and it has driving as a significant part of it. It's costing me about £7/day on this new tariff, since it's on overnight. Anyways, hopefully there's some spectacular elevated storms from this spell. Don't want the dangerous storms......
