  1. On the Dolomites ski slopes fresh snow from 25 cm up to 100 cm (Val Zoldana). It's not clear, at the moment, for how long it will keep on snowing. It seems that tomorrow will stop but there is a chance that the occlusion will form a secondary minimun in the Gulf of Venice (know as Venice Low). This will be good for other snowfalls in the region.

Only above 1800 mt the fresh snow is "dry", below that it's humid and heavy.

    Ciao

  2. That incredible 25.4C ai 520m, it must have felt very unusual for people in the area.

Thanks for telling us about this, very interesting.

    Russ

The maximun T was 29,4, not 25,4 :drinks:

Anyway, all the NW italian weather stations recorded unusual and never recorded temperatures. Looking the next days diagrams we will experience a decreesing of T from the actual 20-22 C° to -2-5 . In some locations (as the one mentioned above) from 29,4 down to a minus 15...40 C° difference in 2-3 days!

This situation looks like a disaster for agriculture. At the moment, because of the mildest winter ever, the fields looks like they are at the first decade of April. :unknw:

Good news, beside that, for the Dolomites...next week we should have heavy snowfalls in all the area above the 700-800 mt.

    Umbelieveble winter

    Ciao da Venezia :drinks:

  3. While the rest of Europe has been battered by the violent storm, north Italy (the NW of the Po Valley) is recordind incredible temperatures. The fhoen is blowing strong and the official weather stations are recording the highest temperature ever. Just an example, today this OFFICIAL weather station located near Turin at 520 slm in the Alps recorded +29,4 C° which is just (!!!) 25 C° above average, which is 1,5 C° above the averege July maximun temperatures.

  4. post-4289-1164735841_thumb.jpgGood idea. I will take care of the Dolomites area (NE Italy). At the moment the situation is almost depressing. We had no any perturbation in the last two months. Only few centimeters that, with the first sun, disapper. Also the temperature do not helps. Only above 2300 mt there is just few centimetres of snow which aren't enough for the ski slopes.

Here you can see the situation in one of the snowiest place in the Dolomites: the village down in the valley is at 1200 mt and the mountain on the back is the Civetta (3280 mt). No snow!

  5. Thanks Iztok. Same (bad) situation here. Mountains absolutly dry, without any sign of snow at any level. Warmer and drier as well in NE Italy. Thanks for your dates, I will post them in our meteo forum as well are interesting for our statistics.

    Ciao :)

Pics took the 12 November at 2200 mt in Passo Giau (Dolomites). The only "white" you can see is the Marmolada glacier. Only few snow flakes given by the front coming from north:

  6. Well, we are in the second part of November but the weather is still very mild and averages are unusual.

September and October was warmer than in average and the first half of November almost normal (but this is because of lower morning temperatures). Precipitation amount until now this autumn is very low and we can talk about one of the driest autumn ever.

Special conditions are in the mountains where September and October was warmer than August!

Here are some charts about October average day temperatures deviation from average 1961-90

You shoud pay attention on Kredarica station - it is at 2515m a.s.l.

  8. A bit of the "slovenian cold air" reached also Venice yesterday. After two days of dull weather the wind from NE took  fresh air and blu sky. My weather station recorded a minimun of 6,5 C (the weather station is just 30 mt from the water of the lagoon). At the moment the T is 9,8 and the sky is clear. We are going to have a little bit of rain Thursday and then the HP with subtropical component seems will gradually warm us. We will see. Ciao a tutti

  10. I find Iztok weather station very interesting. I know the place and I been inthe area several times and I can assure is one of the coldest place in west europe and it's not far from the Adriatic sea! Also in north east Italy, 45 km from Venice where I live there is a similar location. The location is Cansiglio, a rocky plateau at 900 metres above sea level and it's known for the terrific temperature inversion. The last March we recorded a temperature of minus 36,5 while, 600 metres higher on the nearby peak, minus 15. Ciao Itzok if you are interested on joyn our MNW weather net don't hesitate to contact me. There is another slovenian weather station in the organisation is located in Zirje. e-mail me strauch67@hotmail.com . Doberdan
