  1. Probably another 5cm today in Stroud, maybe more. Starting to get lighter now but a stunning event got to be out at 730am tomorrow......
  2. Anyone seen this amazing bus driver avoid the car? she essentially power-slides the bus around the car, incredible! https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/hero-bus-driver-who-avoided-12114000
  3. Snow still coming down thick and fast in Stroud I use my hill test lol, if it comes in enough to obscure the view to swifts hill I know its decent lol. Must be another few cms down in the last 90mins. Just went for a little urban walk around Uplands with the dog, no lead needed as no cars, and the drifting was pretty impressive in places. All in all a fantastic snow event.
  4. Snow really getting going again here looking at radar things seem to be really invigorating!! this lot going south east to north west
  5. Try defrosting your condensate pipe (assuming you have a combo boiler) it will exit behind the boiler to the outside (white plastic pipe about 25mm wide) pour hot water on it. its a common problem with combo boilers plumbers should use wider pipe or insulate it. easy fix mind. It may be something else but worth a try:)
  6. Has it? Dry in uplands at the moment. looking at radar there is some developing ppn though Let's hope it peps up as forecast later on
  7. Just ventured out in my work boots and dressing gown (fetching ha) to see what the road down the hill is like, not great! Plenty of snow drifts hard to judge how much actually fell due to the wind. Looking ahead this afternoon looks potentially snowy again. stay safe everyone
  8. It does help if you have a small person as an excuse when it come to the sledging part, but if you haven't ...who needs excuses :):):):):):):):):):
  9. Just checked MET office radar and although we have only been in the lighter ppn so far we have a decent covering and blizzard conditions. Glancing south the really heavy stuff looks poised to head north, although it looks to disintegrate as it moves north the front should help to actually bring it inland as the evening/night progresses.
  10. I'm about a half of the way up to Birdlip on slad road ( peghouse, uplands) and even though I'm no where near the altitude (about 100meters asl Birdlip about 200ish) I can honestly say I have never seen such blizzard conditions. The snow isn't really heavy, but with the insane wind blowing so strong and gusty the conditions are quite remarkable :0
  11. Long time back but I reckon 96 sounds about right, my last year of secondary school lol:)
  12. No no.... freezing rain is literally that, it is when the air up above is warmer than the air at the surface ( there are different levels of 'above, but just go with it) this means the rain ultimately falls into really cold air ( as rain, plain and simple, not ice pellets) and then freezes instantly on contact with the ground or other surfaces because it is so cold. This results on a blanket of ice on every surface. a very rare event! i have only experienced it once when I was a kid in the 90s!
  13. Looking at the radar the more intense echoes certainly look to be further east than forecast! We will be in the 'zone' for many many hours yet to come. The lighter persistent stuff we are currently getting will build up, however I reckon we could well be in for some much heavier snow later on. Drifting is already becoming apparent even with this lighter stuff, imagine where we will be if it peps up! and with us being quite far north I don't see any chance of freezing rain or the like
  14. Some really heavy stuff coming north on the met office app!!! perhaps the red alert could extend a little east??
  15. Quite unprecedented! No huge depths but the wind and the blowing snow is something I have only seen once before and that was back in 2009 but this event is more extreme. i can only imagine where we will be this time tomorrow :0 Hope everyone is enjoying this beast!
  16. Blooming eck is cold out there!! biting wind with light snow. with regards to snowfall I think we will be seeing ppn developing/fading/developing for the next 48 hours or more. not your classic band heading in with clear a boundary that moves through then buggers off more an area of ppn potential. good luck all :):):)
  17. Looking beyond the three day blizzard thats on the way :0 EC 12z looks pretty well cold throughout for the majority! hmmmmm, maybe this cold spell can hang on after all .... Sunday- Wednesday- Saturday Note Wednesdays flow returning the -10 isotherm from the north east! At no point on that run do the winds go westerly, a solid continental influence throughout.
  18. Been so busy catching up with this thread and tomorrow's snowfall I haven't looked at the 12zs yet....off to see what's EC has served up for Wednesdays supper
  19. Euro 4 looking very snowy Thursday ecpesially later in the day we could be looking at three days of near continuous snowfall going by MET apps and various warnings etc :0:0:0
