  1. any rotation on that?.....I'm in 2 minds whether to head out from sunderland or stay put.....looks like a right turner
  2. Just to add, clear skies here now, with temps and humidity rocketing....given that and other parameters in play, it feels ripe for some strong surface based storms here later
  3. Quitely confident up here in the north east today.... hopefully see some photogenic cloudscapes....have van will travel, either slightly north west to the hills around Consett or drop 30 miles or so south to the north Yorkshire Moors
  4. interesting little shower action in NE....Ac Cas with virga, enough virga to give a rainbow....first time I've seen a rainbow without precip hitting the ground
  5. the answer is straight forward, I moved ooop north a few years ago from Wilts and took all the storms with me ! Man, we used to get some crackers breaking out over Salisbury Plain and the Marlborough Downs, some absolute monsters !
  6. nice cheeky little thunderstorm here at the moment...12 good rumbles so far, some good flashes of lightning plus one good bolt just off shore...a very pleasant surprise
  7. question, has anyone ever known such a protracted spell of frankly crap weather in summer?....this is as bad as I can ever remember
  8. yup, rumbing away nicely, just passing to my north....we're really being spoilt today !
  9. it is quite literally....a banger ! mahoosive booms of thunder, plenty of lightning and now the scud has moved away offshore, i'm getting some lovely lightning bolts from the anvil....lots of video footage to go through today, i even got local and gave it a big "Wae'aye man!" for the more photogenic lightning
  10. Most convectively active day I've seen in 3 years in the north east ! Storms fireing up constantly with continuous rumbles
  11. a bit naff here, looked ever so promising earlier, Ac Cas towering into Cb's but then seemed to decay readily giving just pockets of rain in the NE, and noe just a vast swathe of mid-level crud spoiling any surface-based convection
  12. Bubbling up here nicely now, big Ac Cas towers to my south and west with anvils, and I've discovered a brand new type of cloud to my east.... I give you Altocumulus Castellanus Great Britishious
  13. superb night of storms, some pretty violent ones around here ! (lyneham at the time)
  14. This day 11 years ago, a classic day for UK storm enthusiasts ! elevated storms fired up over the welsh marches around breakfast swiftly turning into a MCS which in turn tapped into the boundary layer becoming surface based as they swept through the midlands dropping fist sized hail and a large (by UK standards) tornado near Hinkley in Leic, as well as nr Sleaford (lincs) IIRC.... then moved up over northern england to give the NE some of their best storms in years, again IIRC the River Tyne bridge was struck by lightning ! I lived in Penkridge at the time and rmember the monster storms and the village being under water ! quick edit, there's hopefully still the storm threads in the NW archive as well as a thread I made specifically for this event
  15. another supercell possibility?.....lovely radar sig from this storm that has exploded just to my north
  16. see my earlier post...it was very high based (Ac Cas) for the most part, constant thunder, no hail but v.large rain drops
  17. very interesting radar signature for this storm thats just passed over......
  18. very high based storm here in sunderland...constant thunder, torrential rain but no visible lightning
  19. just a small dusting overnight which has quickly melted away to nothing........eyes on tomorrow, maybe get a bit luckier ?
  20. bone dry here, we had dusting overnight which has mostly gone now....it's been an odd day watching the radar, just sunderland has been under clear radar all day, but areas all around the city have had some kind of ppn.....some micro-climate strangness no doubt !
  21. the jury is still out for most of late thurs night into friday...hope you all see a ton of snow though might be a bit more troublesome here on the coast though, north sea tend to moderate the air temps, so might get lucky here, more likely a rain/sleet icy mix though
