my two penneth as I posted on other social media.....
little pockets of snow are developing, but having run the zoomed radar loop, these pockets fire up over south/SE facing hills....as soon as ppn moves over said facing hills it disappears....good example of orographic ppn, and explains why ppn simply doesn't reach me (I'm on a WNW facing escarpment)
I believe that's what's happening but I stand to be corrected
not north wilts mate.......salisbury plain is leaching out all the snow fall due to the west/east allignment....disaster for my locale.....if it had stayed NW/SE and pivoted later it would've been good
and as soon as the fragmented band passes over (without a single flake being dropped) it starts to pep up over the cotsowlds/south midlands.....orographic forcing no doubt.....you really couldnt make this up....lol
well, the actual weather certainly does make a mockery of even the very best computer models, that's for sure!.........repeat the mantra'..."The models do not dictate the weather"...... *sigh*
the radar is glitched to buggery, and secondly Ian F stated that the front will not split......to quote...."this stuff on NW SW thread incorrect - nothing to do re front splitting. The signal for less snow parts N Som/Bridgwater Bay area etc is via strong orographic modulation in SE flow. Classic signal: note same to lee of Cotswolds in some HRES output."
told the wife if she plays her cards right she could get a few cm's tonight, she laughed and said, "I hope you're talking about the weather, otherwise you're delusional".......*sigh*
As Ian mentioned elsewhere, it's nothing to do with a split front, rather topology and oragraphic forcing will dictate areas which have more or less snow
re. think of the animals.....joking aside, worth mentioning for those with outdoor pets, to make sure plenty of food is left out for them, cover up hutches etc and keep a drinking source available......we lost a rabbit in last march's freeze due to not adhering to the above sadly
sadly I have the same problem....due to middle age spread, I haven't seen them for ages......I'll fetch me coat....again......ok, ok, no more from me, I'm just a bit excited an restless waiting for tomorrow!
