  1. and here we have it folks, the joint winners of the NW Most Unconstructive Post 2012 award!
  2. Showers/thunderstorms now starting to fire in Mid Wales along a line of LLC which is progged to move northwards during the next few hours...As mentioned by crewecold, I would expect more showers/storms to break out over the next couple or so hours affecting the west midlands as they drift eastwards training along the LLC line....North of Brum looks very good, touch wood!
  3. For me, this comes as no surprise, being an advocate of M-theory & especially brane-world cosmology....dark matter does not exist, at least not in our 3D brane...Brane-world cosmology infers that that what we perceive as dark matter is simply the gravitational tug of matter in another 3D brane universe lurking very closely to ours seperated by a higher spatial dimension...It's hoped that this theory could well be tested in the not too distant future by testing Newtons theory of gravity (inverse square law) at the very small distances...The inverse square law in layman's terms states that the strength of gravity is inversely proportional to the square of the distance from the source...If however experiments show that at the very small distances (approaching the planck length) that the strength of gravity is inversely proportional to the cube of the distance from the source, this will infer that that there are extra dimensions at the very small scale in turn inferring of a parallel universe very close to ours....If empirically verified, the mystery of dark matter could be solved once and for all....
  4. My sister phoned me to report a weak thunderstorm over Brixham, South Devon in the past hour....she asked me why the storm didn't last long and I tried explaining about lack of shear and precip swamped updrafts and all, to which she replied...."Do you speak English?"
  5. yes, the guys over on MetServ & the UKASF are quite keen on shower/thunderstorm development over the midlands today and into this evening...Shallow convection has already initiated here, but again with the lack of shear it's a 'blink and you'll miss it' affair with regards to sferic activity, updrafts will build and then die quickly leaving residual rain showers
  6. Thanks Roger, quality analysis as always from you.....I'm certainly looking forward to some more active weather over the next 24-48 hours!
  7. Yes, top work from Dan (Staplehurst) and the guys at UKASF, their forecasts over this recent convective spell have been spot on...Certainly making big strides forward!.....Looking forward to reading NW's very own Nick Finnis' convective forecast for today
  8. Hi Lewis, the thread is archived currently, I'll ask site/admin team to unlock it & pin it.....By all means carry on posting it here for the mo as the thread is quiet, hopefully tomorrow the old thread will be resurrected as it would better for footage to be in one place
  9. Hi, as posted in the convective discussion, there is already a thread open for this topic.....I'll flag this one to be locked..... Thread here....... http://forum.netweather.tv/topic/49168-your-video-and-storm-pictures/
  10. There is already a long standing thread for posting storm footage/pictures....It saves footage from being lost in this thread which is aimed more at current convective discussion & forecasts ...... http://forum.netweather.tv/topic/49168-your-video-and-storm-pictures/
  11. Some thought provoking posts from PE & CC, but with respect probably better suited to the 'Climate & Environment' sub-forum, best to stick to the actual model output here....thanks
  12. Quite a few lively showers have fired up over the north midlands and into east wales, some impressive radar echoes
  13. It produced nothing more than steady rain for a while unfortunately
  14. Blatant plagiarism....where's my lawyer! ...another rather heavy shower has passed through...just rain though
  15. I do understand what you're saying, I honestly do, but IMHO april shower scenario storms are like a quick fumble in the back alley after pub closing hours...looks great from a distance, flashes a nice bit of cleavage, but one disappointing bang and the novelty has gone.....where as Spanish plume scenario are like a quality curry.....you look forward to it all day, you can smell it in the air, the anticipation mounts, it arrives and the spices causes fireworks to slam you right between the eyes and then you get the loud rumbles that continue all night long!
  16. not a lot happening TBH..Cells over the Whitchurch area will die before they get to you...TBH on a day like this, with updrafts firing and decaying rapidly you'd be better suited to look out of the window for a nowcast than watching the radar.. ....for those near Bromsgrove, nice cell has gone up near Droitwich, quite active.....for the moment!
  17. Totally agree, and with your earlier post, whilst all these anvils are nice & pretty and all that, without any shear & decent WAA then there's little in the way of pyrotechnics .....Now come classic spanish plume scenario we're talking business, with energy measuring in the 4 digits j/kg & boyancy the same as my IQ (-6 so the missus tells me..lol) WWA, lovely warm stagnant air in place plus the final ingredient in an advancing cold front, you get enough pyrotechnics to start world war 3, high cloud bases to watch the firework show & enough shear to form multi-cells & MCS...Yep I'd take that over 'april showers' any day of the week...It's just a shame we rarely seem to get them these days!
  18. You dare mention politics in the Convective discussion??......Go and wash your mouths with soap and promise humbly never to do it again!
  19. bugger....updraft is decaying rapidly...lightning detector was showing lightning within 10 miles of my location to the NW....now nothing but some light/moderate rain....don't you just love these pulse type storms?!
  20. thunderstorm just to my NW.....coming from the same line of showers that passed through Stafford 20 mins or so earlier
  21. Heavy rain here currently, nice little train of heavy showers showing up on radar probably pepped up by local convergence
  22. aye...never stop ramping Surrey (aka the Sid Wadell of the storm thread...lol)
  23. Two areas to note for the Midlands region.....NW Midlands & the South Midlands, LLC's in these areas will aid convection given diurnal heating heating...Hi-res models have been picking up on LLC's in these areas, and current wind patterns infer these are verifying.....I would expect some heavy showers/storms or more persistent heavy rain in these areas (Welsh borders through Staffs towards Leicester, and Hereford through Worcester towards Coventry as areas with good potential....and later on this afternoon I'd take at a stab at thundery showers breaking out along the A45 corridor
