  1. It means... "This is your captain speaking......Please fasten your seat belts & place your trays in the upright position, this could get a little bumpy"
  2. I'll sort out a fresh thread in the morning...this one's getting on a bit now........as Mark & Luke have posted, there's some good convective potential in the coming days
  3. Fingers crossed for that to verify! As for today, not too bad....mainly sunny with some scattered Cumulus & feeling warm out of the breeze....All down hill from here though over the next 12-24 hours...Still, some convective possibilties over the next few days
  4. first few cells have become electrified, not too far from Weymouth
  5. Interesting tweet from Ian Fergusson..... here's the photo link... https://fbcdn-sphoto...954807389_n.jpg probably a bird or something, but interesting none the less
  6. Sonic boom makes sense of course...I remember as a child when I lived in Brixham, Torbay, I used to hear the sonic boom from concorde every night around 9pm out in the bay...during the summer I'd hear it and my first thought was always "yippee night time thunder!" only then to realise what it really was
  7. It's core has missed me by I'd say about 5 miles....developed over Brockton then moved through Rugeley and should end up shortly in Sutton Coldfield....Explosive development in that cell!
  8. A whole rash of storms now stretching through Dorset, Hampshire, Surrey & into Sussex
  9. a lot of rotation going on in the cell just passing to my east.....just got a few seconds of footage before battery ran out & it's rather grainy, but i'll upload it later if it's any good
  10. another cell has popped up just to my east along that convergence line.....this one really has my interest as I've been out recording footage and there's a lot of shear and rotation/spin going on in that cell...I'm going to upload footage this afternoon so peeps can take a lot
  11. Miserable so & so...lol......just had some thunder & fork lightning here in the past few minutes.....that sunny gap might work well in aiding further showers/storms to break out, so I wouldn't write things off just yet
  12. Passing through Cannock towards Walsall by the looks of things......I'm posting 2 radar grabs to show just how quickly this particular cell fired up, less than 20 minutes in this case...
  13. Nice rumble of thunder just now from a cell that's popped up from nowhere pretty much directly overhead blimey....big flash of fork lightning and sharp crack of thunder....strewth, that was close!!
  14. Near miss from that thundery shower near Telford....The emphasis today I think is on more southern and eastern areas of the UK
  15. Decent convection has already initiated over the west midlands...had two heavy showers already this morning, with more developing over north wales pushing into the cheshire gap...Definitely a promising start to the day
  16. probably just a trick on the eyes, but anyone with NW v6 radar, have a look at the 1510hrs frame for the shower/storm complex nr Wolverhampton/Birmingham...Very interesting...pronounced 's' shape to the echo
  17. radar is starting to look a bit more benign once that storm passes through...Still quite a lot of SbCape and lift around but the energy looks to be shifting eastwards now
  18. yep, looks like a new updraft has gone up on the southern flank of that storm...might be a bit more life in the beast yet!
  19. Hi Liam, as present, IMO I wouldn't pay too much attention to what's going on stormwise over the midlands....These cells that are popping up are generally 'pop-corn' single celled beasts, with the updrafts only lasting 30 minutes or so before the lack of shear kills them....I think I'd recommend keeping an eye on the radar 20 or 30 miles or so to your north west to see what develops, as any cells brewing up in that area will probably reach you before dying back.....worth noting though that in eastern & possibly south eastern parts of England local surface wind convergence zones which are forecasted to develop might well aid in sustaining any storms brewing in those areas
  20. yeah, might be in for a spot of drizzle from that lot....lol Thunderstorm near Wolverhampton is disippating now, that's the problem with these single-celled storms, if there's no little shear then the updraft gets swamped by cooler descending air, thus it's 'fuel supply' is cut off....that's not to say that other unicell storms will pop up near by though
  21. just been out to get some footage, but not a lot to see in terms of lightning.....quite a nice gust front though, but thunder has died off for now...It's passing just to my west and should pass through Wolverhampton in the next 20-30 minutes at a guess
  22. lol....I think not.........well, the good news is that I can hear thunder coming from that cell just to the west of Stafford....very impressive to look at and on radar! edit, in fact, quite loud thunder now...yay!
  23. surrounded by anvils, but nothing happening...I'm underneath that cluster over the NW Midlands currently....no rain, no thunder.......yet!
  24. Big shower about to hit Stafford, passing just to my north....very photogenic, with gust front and rain curtain
