  1. another potent looking cell has fired just to the north of Huntington, near the A1....Quite a bit of lightning associated with that one.....looks to be a very busy day in here as the day progresses!
  2. Yep, just to the east of Bicester moving quickly NE towards Towcester/Northampton...quite active by the looks of things
  3. holy smokes, it's piddling down!
  4. Every time there's a convective forecast you have a 'funny feeling' that Lincolnshire is the place to be..lol.....Well, the law of averages says that one day you'll be spot on....lol.....whether or not it's tomorrow remains to be seen....if you're out and about chasing tomrrow, good luck matey....(I'm heading out towards Leicester tomorrow, it's as good as spot as any, me thinks)
  5. erm, when did I say that stafford would get a washout eh??.....I was referring to the midlands region....lets have a look at the radar sequence...golly gosh, a washout for many parts....
  6. just had a glance at the hi-res models for weather for the next 24-36 hours, and wished I hadn't....What had looked previously a fairly dry day tomorrow with maybe a few slow moving showers has become instead a day forecasted to be, dare I say it, a washout!
  7. yep, was reported a couple or so months back if I remember correctly
  8. It's been more or less dry in Brum since lunchtime as has been here....the second day's play at Edgbaston was abandoned due to a water logged outfield, a result of the rainfall over the past 24-36 hours....In hindsight, the groundstaff may have been a bit hasty as with this drying wind I reckon some play in the evening session would've been possible
  9. You're absolutely right Chris....The more widely used name(s) for insolation are daytime or diurnal solar heating, or in other words the amount of solar radiation received in a certain surface area and is calculated using the formula joules/mm^2
  10. orographic lift & resultant rain shadow effect
  11. yep, been watching that develop over the last few hours....interesting...
  12. Of course, that's not to say that something might spring up tonight...I haven't looked at the hi-res models in any detail but just by looking at the radar down south and the various satellite imagery it's obvious that there's some pretty volatile conditions in the atmosphere
  13. They might, repeat might, just be sperious detections...checked the radar and visi-sat for around 40 mins ago, nothing convective that stands out at being lightning producing
  14. eh?.....It's poured down this afternoon...Stafford's showing getting on for 1/2 inch rainfall in the past 4 hours....Re. tomorrow, I disagree ..The winds will be SWerly so I'd expect the Welsh mountains to leech out a lot of the rainfall....It certainly won't be a good day, but to label it a washout is a bit misleading IMO
  15. just rain here...the Penkridge storm drought continues sadly......
  16. just literally got in and can report quite a lot of lightning over north Brum whilst driving towards the M5/M6 interchange....a heavy shower here currently in Penkridge, but it looks like the thundery stuff will pass to the south
  17. Yep, I can here the sleigh bells ringing already....."Ho Ho Ho, Merry Christmas"
  18. By that time, the nights will then start to draw in, and peeps will start looking at FI charts for winter synoptics!
  19. I've come across this amazing new concept for forum posting here on NetWeather....It revolves around actually heeding the site-members requests with regard to posting on-topic, non argumentative, non-biased, non sniping/baiting posts et al....you know, the sort of posts that members agree not to post when they join the forum.....perhaps a few members who frequent the Model Output Discussion should embrace this concept...Go on, give it a try, what have you got to lose?....
  20. well, when the forecasters said it was going to be wet today, they got it spot on....It's been raining here for 18 hours now....horrible, truly horrible!
  21. Good call!......quite a potent storm just to the west of the Cherbourg penninsular affecting the Channel Islands, tracking NEwards....Certainly worth members along the sussex coastline keeping their eyes peeled to their south/south west
  22. hmm....sferic detected between Swindon & Oxford on the front edge of the rain band....false detection or the real deal?
  23. Very good forecast Robbie, it's obvious from reading it that a lot of hard work and thought has gone into your piece
  24. In reply to the previous few posts........For the 24,275,227th time, hit the report button to report any posts you consider questionable and let a member of the site team deal with it...., Please don't reply to said 'questionable' posts as all that results is the thread being thrown off-topic.... It never fails to amaze me how members can't follow the forum guidelines.... ....and now, back to the Model Output Discussion......
