  1. September now the wettest month of the year so far here, followed by May and then July. Still the three average wettest months to go but they turn out drier, it will be the only the second year since I've taken records where Sept is the wettest month of the year (the other being 2011).

  2. We've got ourselves a streamer here. Persistent torrential rain. Going to be some high rainfall totals at this rate.

  3. Only 58 hours of sunshine so far this month here. Second half of the month needs to be consistently good to even make average!

  4. Does anyone know how reliable the CFS model is?

  5. Beginning to think true summer in Britain is like the Olympics - happens for two weeks every four years!

even better if was 2 days every 4 years.

  6. Resisting the urge to book a holiday somewhere where summer actually exists!

Might sod off for a week myself.

British "summers" are a joke. OK, it did start off good, but has gone downhill over the past couple of weeks. And it looks as if the first week of August is going to be no better.

  7. Dullest final week of June I've ever recorded.

I haven't recorded it but I wouldn't bet against it here either. Hardly seen the sun this week.

Good stat. Sums it up nicely.

I would say it's the second dullest end to June since 2012. In fact, the whole of June was pretty much an autumn month that year.

  8. Can always rely on May to bring thunderstorms here. Out of the NSC now and looks like another one on the way! Score.

  9. Models are once again an absolute yawnfest. Time to indulge in my other interests for a few days.

very wet February, certainly met office will issue flood warnings for north midlands, Wales, SW England, north west England, and parts of the north east

    3. MP-R

      MP-R

Calm down IRA  Would take at least double Feb 2014 for flooding to become an issue. If both Feb and Mar are very wet however, March could be problematic. Fortunately rainfall projections in the reliable are modest at best.

  10. February 2014 re-run anyone? That's what the GFS FI would have you believe...

I think we'll have an Atlantic dominated Feb, contender for wettest ever, got to pay for this mainly dry Jan

nah atlantic 252 we will pay for this this in summer :sorry:

  11. Anyone know where you can find what the models are showing months in advance? I've seen some post charts 6 months in the future but don't know where from.

not sure miguel is exaggerating, 34.4° it reached according to met office

I couldn't quite believe the 34C either @Blade but then it may have been a rogue station. By the looks of it 31-32C was a lot more widespread.

  16. Quite funny reading comments about a quiet start to autumn while there's a really potent squall with torrential rain moving through...

  17. Anyone have any idea which day next week will likely be the sunniest in Bristol? Tuesday or Wednesday?

Ridiculous isn't it? A bit of rain and everyone feels the need to tootle around at 10mph.

M5 wasn't fun this morning. Actually overtook people in the outside lane via the middle lane in order to stick at minimum 60 let alone 70!

Could be some minor damage on Saturday.

  20. Rather disappointing outlook for the next four days compared to a few days ago. Not too bothered about heat during the new working week, the weekend is more important!

Meanwhile, that's quite the storm system over Spain approaching Valencia. Only 17C in Madrid too!

  21. The August outlook really has gone from hero to zero - disgusting charts on offer! Need a backtrack pdq as it must be settled 11th-14th August! :(

There are mosquitoes in the UK, just not malarial ones (though there used to by up unil the 1950s).

  22. Absolutely gorgeous out there today! So summer 2016 isn't a complete loss. I'm holding on to the forecast that August will be the best month for the summer. Por favor!

  23. Oh look, now the arrival of summer has been delayed to Monday/Tuesday. What is wrong with climate!! Hate it, hate it, hate it.

Cloud and precipitation charts seem to suggest a less summery outlook than the ordinary 850hPa charts @William Grimsley with a front crossing the country on Saturday.

Yup once again weekend curse here rain Saturday then slate grey NW's through Cheshire Gap Sunday here :(

  24. One year anniversary of the worst first day of June I can remember. Pretty shoddy today too but nothing as bad as last year.

  25. March really has been a month of contrasts. Rather boring in the middle but far from it at either end!

Quite similar to last year in some ways. Had gales at either end last March too, but it was quite settled for a time during the middle third of the month.
