Where? It was in pretty much the same place as now. India hadn't hit Asia, North and South America hadn't joined, but Northern Europe was in place.

Who? Whoever dated the rocks there and whoever discovered fossilized tropical forests in the Arctic

When? In the pre-Google epoch. It does save having to look it up in a library though :-)

      four seasons in one day

Cheers for clearing that up lol. Chances are though the current isn't quite as extreme as you've put it though?  Svalbard or otherwise :)

      Unless Morson was to blame?

  2. Cleared and gone down to 9C. Actually feels a bit cold despite being warmer than days ought to be in December

  3. Don't remember a forecast for strong winds tonight? Certainly getting them...

    1. William Grimsley

      William Grimsley

Was forecast down here and was pretty strong with a few gale force gusts here but nothing out of the ordinary.

  4. Window open and fan on trying to sleep when it won't go below 13C. It's only the middle of December after all.

  5. 13C at 1am in December. We had maxima like that in late July. 2015 the year of one season!

    1. Scorcher

      Scorcher

The fog is really localised today, quite amazing. Bright sunshine here but only 5 miles down the road they're in cloud

Glorious day in both Cannock and Brum today, not a cloud in the sky.

thick cloud back in March for the whole of London & SE it was hardly evident although it did get a little darker plus a chilly wind whipped up

  9. Yesterday we were 10C colder than London, today 10C colder than Inverness! 2015 the year of no heat in Shropshire. Great storm last night though...

It's got worse- storms are forming 20 miles either side and nothing here. Only 45 minutes of this garbage day left thankfully...

Climate on Jupiter is fascinating at times lol.

      Daniel*

I hear the sun is experiencing a blistering heatwave

  13. Well the UK breaks the July record, storms kick off all over N England and Scotland, and Shropshire STILL manages to be cloudy and boring all day. Really hate this microclimate we have here....

Should have said NE England, funny I lived there for 4 years on and off and only remember seeing a storm once....

  14. GET LOST CLOUD unless you've got some storms

  15. 6 daddy long legs swatted tonight.. they never used to appear till September????

  16. What's the point of having 17 hour long days if the sun won't come out? Are these NW lies ever going to get lost?

    2. Milhouse

      Milhouse

Another rotten day for those in the NW. Low teens is diabolical for late June. Even the great advocate of PM northwesterlies has given up praising them.

    3. Scorcher

      Scorcher

Tbh Milhouse the lowest temps are on the eastern side of the Pennines today- Manchester is warmer than Leeds and Sheffield for example. The temp still hasn't reached 12C in Sheffield apparently!

    4. Milhouse

      Milhouse

Yes definately a chill to be felt once you get up in them hills today. However go lower down in the Vale of York for example and you can add on 3/4c

  17. The easterly that produced southwesterly weather- raining for 6 hours, damp, misty and mild. Ridiculous!

    2. Lettucing Gutted

      Lettucing Gutted

Unfortunately this is the "norm" for the non-winter easterlies in between March and November. warm easterlies are a dime a dozen in spring and summer and most of the autumn too. classic cold easterlies like March 2013 are as rare as hens teeth in these seasons.

    3. Thundery wintry showers

      Thundery wintry showers

At this time of year easterlies are often like a colder version of tropical maritime south-westerlies. The issue is that the moisture over the sea produces stratiform cloud that is trapped at low levels due to the stable airmass.

    4. Lettucing Gutted

      Lettucing Gutted

and of course in summer easterlies can rival Maritime Tropical southwesterlies and Continental Tropical southerlies for heat and thunderstorms.

  19. More sun today than any day in November, October or even the second half of September!

    2. Lettucing Gutted

      Lettucing Gutted

Now all we need now is some proper cold and frost to go with it! :D

  21. Is that clear sky or are my eyes turning blue from lack of light?

  22. No sun for 5 days now save a 15 minute cameo on Thursday just before sunset. Featureless grey gunk day and night, getting seriously depressing now.

      Evening thunder

That's one reason why part of me likes aspects about our climate, you can get pretty changeable stuff from the Atlantic with a reasonable amount of sunshine too this time of year as long as the flow isn't dominated by TM SW air or fronts get stuck over us

    3. Evening thunder

      Evening thunder

We've had more sun here today, and in general over the year than some seem to have over the year/Autumn thankfullly

I use TuneIn Radio for Windows phone. It should be available to iOS and Android users. :)

  24. Today was what I call hibernation weather. So dark you can barely tell day from night, temps of 7C with constant drizzle.

    1. lassie23

      lassie23

that's what makes winter so ****

  25. Next to no sunshine here this week, what is all this heatwave nonsense?
