  1. 90s winters as far as snow was concerned seemed to be either quite respectable (95/6, 90/1, early 96/7, Feb 94, Mar 95) or virtually snowless (91/2, 92/3, post-Feb 97). While in the Noughties most of them seemed to give a few cms on a few days every winter, never having any proper lengthy cold snaps, seldom had snow cover for more than 2 or 3 days at a time, but rarely totally snowless either. The 2010s have been like the 90s again, only if anything more spectacularly contrasting the snowy (10/11, 12/13, 17/18) and not snowy (13/14 and 15/16 especially, also for the most part 11/12, 14/15, 16/17 and 18/19). The 70s seemed to do this as well from what I can see. Perhaps the 2020s will be like the 80s (and judging by the stats, 60s too) when winters were either like the "snowy" 90s and 10s ones or like the normal 00s ones.
  2. Thought we might just catch the northern edge for a few hours and then dry up, but no, it's still there and spinning round the other way. Started raining about midnight and got heavier in last hour. Temp 4.1C with a bitter NE wind; yet again if it was January could have been a dump of snow
  3. Started to rain according to the radar but nothing falling yet
  4. Had to go up to Selattyn/Oswestry this morning, it was snowing properly up there. Selattyn I'm not too surprised as it's close to 300m but it was settling all the way down into Oswestry and as far as Whittington. But Ellesmere, less than 10 miles away just had sleety rain. Obviously some evap cooling effect on that area, there was a good 4-5 cm in Oswestry at 11am.
  5. Yep pouring down here, been raining since lunchtime with the southern edge permanently stuck about 10 miles south of here. It's barely dried out in the ground since the deluge on the last Fri/Sat of October, won't take much more to flood all the roads again.
  6. Horrible cold rain all afternoon, started drizzly then turned into more steady rain. Band looks further south than forecast
  7. Just been out late night shopping and almost every road into the village is flooded. Had to take long diversions rather than risk it, those annoying floods where you don't know if it's 3 inches or 3 feet deep. Still raining relentlessly
  8. Radar looking very ominous, enough to make me do the dog walk at 8.30 in the morning in case I can't do it again today... First spots just arriving now
  9. And it's suddenly started raining, 2 days without is too much for this month obviously
  10. Finally a nice sunny afternoon, we seem to have dodged all the gunk for once.
  11. I got June right, at least for the first three weeks of it... Not so September though!
  12. Those were the days when the replay was the same week, not 2 or 3 weeks later... The one I most remember being abandoned by snow was about 1996, Notts Forest against someone, it got abandoned before half time. Something that doesn't seem right for 1987 in that clip: There's a Ryanair advert at the side of the pitch! That's at least 10 years before anyone had heard of them, they must have been flying something from Luton in those days.
  13. Interesting feature near the Balearics on the Sat24 images, is it a "Medicane" forming?
  14. 28C here today, warmest it's been in the second half of Aug for years. Virtually unbroken sun too
  15. Turned into a nice warm sunny afternoon after starting as grey and gloomy as yesterday
  16. Had to post it, that day you could walk down the end of Great Yarmouth pier to see the snow
  17. It happened in May or June about 2004? 2005? Shetland was 20C-ish with a flow off Norway when the GB mainland was stuck under a cutoff low and masses of cloud.
  18. Been sunny ever since the storm, and didn't cool down at all. Second day this year over 30C, the first time that has happened since 2006!
  19. Yes, nice little cell with bangs and flashes went through. Sun out again and still very hot and sticky, wouldn't be surprised if we get some more...
  20. And we've just had a thunderstorm. Now the sun is out again....
  21. Very little cloud here. The question is, how warm? Hotter than Tuesday or hotter than 1990? No real reason I can see why the heat should confine itself to London and E Anglia, the skies are clear all the way to the W coast and the wind is SSE.
  22. And another one... Following a brief interlude it's pouring again, seen forked lightning and heard loud booms
  23. Woohoo we have a beast! Flashing around for an hour, then rumbles getting louder, finally heavy rain with loud booms and bright flashes
