  1. Hi The next Weather Show on BBC News 24 goes out on: Sat 20th Oct 11:30 Sun 21st Oct 14:30 Sun 21st Oct 21:30 Mon 22nd Oct 01:30
  2. Not quite sure where the "irony" is - isn't the fact that regional forecasters now have all the tools the national team have, and that regional forecasts now complement national ones - whereas, before, each forecast (national or regional) was almost the same. In some regions - the South West, for example - with sailing and/or farming communities, there is a greater understanding of weather/meteorology. As far as the research is concerned, my understanding was that most people don't understand pressure charts fully, and some found them off-putting - so they're used more in forecasts and regions where they are of greater benefit, which seems sensible. They are also easily available online. I don't think anyone's ever claimed that people either understand them fully or not at all!
  3. As I said, Bill Giles talked about it being "breezy up the Channel"!
  4. BBC News 24 will show The Weather Show on Saturday 25th August at 0430 & 1530, on Sunday 26th August at 1430 & 2030 and on Monday 27th August at 2230
  5. AND he wasn't actually talking about the UK! The storm in '87 had been well forecast in the week leading up to it - nobody remembers that. At the last minute the track was in doubt, and Bill Giles (for it was he - not Mike - who was on duty just before the storm struck) remarked "it'll be a bit breezy up the Channel"!
  6. Yes - but Liam will be back very soon (within weeks!)
  7. Yep - next one is scheduled for the August Bank Holiday weekend
  8. Don't follow - surely the BBC, with two forecasts an hour on BBC News 24, not to mention BBC ONE, Radio 4 et al, provide rather more duration for weather than other broadcasters?
  9. Not quite clear on the connection here. The Beeb still use (the same) professional Met people, and still use the same Met data!
  10. So how come so many people complain about the BBC using this colour scheme for exactly the same reason?
  11. The biogs do still include Helen, Sarah and Mike Fish - but all the others, surely, are still very much part of the team. The photo on the page is an old one. Also, Mike Fish retired over a year ago - so must have been replaced! Is there any truth in the rumour that another face from the past will be making a return to the national team?
  12. Since when have the Met Office been able to supply data for where snow is laying?
  13. Hi Counting the biogs on the weather site shows around 21 people on the national team, and I haven't seen any new faces in the pack lately. Who are the new ones yet to be seen, where have they come from and who are the replacing?
  14. I think you must be referring to their move away from "one size fits all", which seems sensible to me. They've always recognised that the Countryfile forecasts attracts people with meteorological knowledge - now they're trying (to use the marketing jargon!) to segment and target the audience better the rest of the time!
