  1. Another storm coming from West! Sky has suddenly got dark and it has started raining. Thunder and lightning slowly getting nearer. About 6 strikes heard so far.
  2. Just had torrential rain for the past hour so. Roads flooded. Very dark. Lightning and thunder have been fairly frequent - about 10 per minute at its peak. Most seem to have been cloud-to-cloud. Storm came from Nottingham direction, and has now just cleared here in Newark, and seems to be heading east. (By the way, the date is the 29th, not the 28th.)
  3. Been raining quite hard here for 20 mins or so. Odd rumble in the distance. Nothing like the spectacular display we had at 0230 this morning! Then we had about one flash every 20 seconds or so for half an hour. Some strikes very close and loud. Power went off for a short while. Very heavy rain with road outside flooded. According to News, one house was struck about 7 miles away. Back to now... Rain now easing off but it is still overcast and dark. Still hot and humid.... Is there more coming?
  4. Hi Polar Low - good to see someone else from Newark! Storm is now gradually petering out - it went very dark (enough for street lights to come on) and rain was torrential for a while with strong gusty winds. Thunder every 20 - 30 secs or so at peak - caused several dips in lights and computer to crash. Most lightning seemed to be C to C, with a few C to G. A few of the latter seemed very powerful, although fewer in number. Skies now brightening slowly - but still raining. Thunder seems to be moving north, as it often does (down the Trent valley). Some excitement at last!
  5. Rained here about 7 a.m. Have heard distant rumblings for last hour or so, but they seem to be moving closer! One loud clap just as I am writing this. Lights dipped at same time. Something's coming!
  6. Yes, according to Meteorologica display, there seem to be 2 main streams of storms originating in the Midlands, one heading up the Trent valley, the other heading towards The Wash. Still rumbling here quite frequently.
  7. Spectacular display here! Heaviest rain I have seen for ages and about 1 strike every 30 secs - some close. Lasted about 15 mins - now starting to recede - heading north by the sound of it. This was the third 'storm' here today, but by far the worst (or best depending on how you look at it!) Has been very hot & sticky here - slightly better now.
  8. Yes, the Netweather Lightning detector is now showing it - the only strike in the UK apparently! Weather now returned to normal - overcast & light rain as per the rest of the day.
  9. Very heavy rain for last 15 mins or so. Back yard flooding. 3 claps of thunder. Would have posted in Storm Reports, but no entry for today??
  10. No reports for the 15th??? Had to post this here instead! The rain is torrential here at the moment - back yard is flooding. Thunder heard 3 times in last 10 mins.
  11. Several rumbles of thunder here in last half hour - some loud, but only one lightning stroke seen. Had a short sharp shower (10 mins). Still seems to be some distant activity to the north, but sky brigtening up again.
  12. Storm appears to be moving away south-easterly. Some distant rumbles heard. Could be further shower / storm approaching.
  13. Just been a sharp shower here and one lightning strike (fairly close). Looks like some other thunder-heads approaching. By the way, I thought today was Sunday.....not Monday. I hope so!
  14. Storm now passed away to East. Second storm had heavier rain but less lightning. One strike was very close and very loud, however. Burglar alarms going off everywhere! Cat freaked out. All quiet now. (Newark).
  15. Yes, thunder & lightning becoming more frquent. Raining hard.
