  1. This was the beautiful ski village of Rauris in the valley of the Golden Eagle close to the border of Salzburgerland/ Carinthia and over looked by the Gross Glockner Massive. I have been here a few times and it is certainly worth the visit. Generally quiet and can be booked from the UK with Crystal Ski who have some really good hotels on offer. C
  2. On the Fanningberg yesterday afternoon. This Sunday expected to be the busiest of the season. Best sit in the sunshine and drink beer . C
  3. Morning all. Thursday will see a active front move across The British Isles with more rain again. All models end the week on a cold note with snow possible for quite a few from Friday as a wedge of cold air sinks over the British Isles. Typical ,first day of the Spring month ! Any snow wasted at low level but better than mild mush after such a long wait. C
  4. Today was a dream day on the slopes. Perfect snow, well groomed runs , sunshine and perfect temperature. Its been a long wait. C C
  5. Some more pictures from the village this morning. The last one is the most important one ( clearing a path way to the pub ( Alderhorst ) C
  6. Morning. After weeks on nothingness and mildness, the weather gods have finally delivered. This weekends starts with sunshine and a fresh cover of deep snow. The next few weeks should be good. Great deals at the moment so grab yourself and bargin and get yourselves over here ! live shot from village earlier this morning. C 05272_65d9a3c4-9586Vid.mp4
  7. First snowy day for a long time. 35cm and still falling. Will celebrate with a beer or two this evening ! C
  8. Weather-history Sounds horrible and that combined with full cloud cover for much of the past 12 months. When do those records go back ? I sure love my roots back in the Northwest but do not miss that terrible gloom for the most part. I watch all the Premier games on TV over here and have noticed how many of the pitches are looking a bit worse for all the rain and lack of ☀. Usually, they all look in pristine condition. I hope the change in wind direction later this week lifts the gloom for you lot. Sick of this mundane winter over here. Hardly seen a frost and thats at 1350m absl. Good news , plenty of snow coming to end the month , hopefully, and maybe some for you guys ? C
  9. tricol I think weird in the sense much of Europe has been very mild for the most part including much of The British Isles but less than 2 hours flight from Manchester , Stockholm and much of Sweden having its coldest winter for several decades with record low temps last month recorded in Sweden and Finland. Vienna on course to smash its warmest winter ever compared to Stockholm which is likely to record its coldest winter this century so far. C
  10. Weather-history I think your sunshine totals have been very poor for the past 9 months or so. Not good for the soul ! April / May seems the best for you guys ! C
  11. @Weather-history How are the Feb stats going up in the NW counties ? Going by my farmer friend up near Skipton, he tells me hardly seen the sun this month / or year so far ! Very wet and mild for the most part apart from a couple days of wet snow earlier in the month. Also he notes hardly any frost to report so far . Back here in the Austrian Alps , lack of sunshine not a problem but the warmth is incredible on some days. Records will fall unless we get a last cold week of the month. 22c down in the valley on Friday . Something weird going on. C
  12. Daniel* I just hope that charts comes to fruition next week. Currently , over here in Austria heading for the warmest February ever ! Yesterday saw a record 13.9 c recorded at 2400m , the warmest at that elevation for February since 1961 . Quite widely 19 c recorded at 400m on Friday. No wonder when 37c plus being recoded during this month in Morocco. Something very wrong ! 14. Yesterday was the warmest February day at 2000m since 1961 in the Salzburger Mountains with a temp of 13,9 c at 2400m level . Locally in the lower valleys at 400m , temps of 19 c recorded quite widely. This Feb heading for the warmest February ever in Austria ! No wonder when you see temps of 37c plus being recorded in Morocco. Something is very wrong. C
  15. Good Afternoon to all back in blightly. Just nearly choked on my Apple Strudel after reading GB News FB ,which tells you lot back home to wrap up warm as Britain to be covered in 8 days (NON -STOP) which they highlight snow cover a foot deep with a 400 mile long wall and 32 cm to fall over Scotland on 28th February. I am not sure who feeds or writes this nonsense but you have to laugh at it. Anyway for a bit of fun I have attached the latest GFS run shown for months end. Of course I hope GB News analysis is spot on ! Meanwhile back in the land of the living, my daughters picture from Stockholm this morning still shows snow in the city . Its been on the ground for well over 2 months now there. Their forecasters say March is going to follow in the same vain. Colder than normal. For much of this winter the models have continued to show cold entrenched to the NE but with little appetite to spread South and West. Maybe months end ? C
  16. dubmuffin Hi , yes certainly. Rest of Feb looking not so good . March is the best month by a mile and a bit quieter on the slopes. Surely, March will be colder than this Feb in the Eastern Alps ! C PS. Have you booked ? C
  17. sundog Its the same over most Continental Europe as well. A mild fest in the extreme this Feb so far in Austria. Possibly heading for the warmest Feb ever. Gut wrenching charts continue for lovers of cold winter weather. So sad. Seems the longer term drivers have failed to deliver ( so far ) but hey who wants cold in March and April . I bet your bottom dollar it will snow on April Fools Day ! Think I need a pint and put my slush boots on . Drip .. Drip.. C
  18. Morning all. Yes, its been hard going this winter. Even as I speak its raining at 1450m. Our Central European Forecasting Agency have been frustrated about how the longer range signals have failed to deliver any meaningful cold to much of Europe so far. Has been an easy forecast for them for the past 6 weeks ( just relentless Sub - Tropical Air flows ) feed around the persistent high ridging from the SW. This appears to be one of the reasons why it has been curtains for any real cold air to last across much of Europe ( apart from Northern Scotland and Nordic Countries ). Currently in many parts of Austria there is no snow lying at below 1000m. I think most high level resorts are still relying on the heavy snowfall base from early in the season but even here the freezing levels are struggling at 2000m. We need snow soon or winter season will be busted. Again, the longer term models this morning provide a bit of hope to rescue winter. Another false dawn ? C
  19. Here are some pictures of the high route between Skipton and Colne following Thursday snow event. My farmer friend who farms above Grassington still reports plenty of snow left today around 1000 feet. C
  20. Morning all. The GFS latter part of its latest run produces some weird and wonderful charts to end the last 3rd of this month. For example the jet profile chart below has the Mid -latidude jet heading towards the equator ! Meanwhile nearer to home the Mid-week fax chart shows a potential battle to develop across The British Isles as the Arctic air heads towards Scotland again and Sub Tropical behind warm front heads towards Southern England. Think it could end up an interesting week for you lot with some developments to the Northwest to watch. More interesting than over here where winter is heading towards a zero ranking at the moment. C
  21. DavidS Yes, frustrating David. The UKMO chart below does show some frontal activity widely across the Alps this coming weekend. So perhaps some welcome snowfall, especially above 1000m is possible. However, further down the coming week a return to those crazy warm SWly back on the agenda for a time. Hopefully , ECM comes to the rescue ! C
  22. Morning all. Not all doom and gloom on this mornings runs . A cold polar burst into The British Isles on Monday could provide some snow, especially at elevation and temporary at lower levels. Later in the week a warm front moves in again. However, cold air lurking not far from the North of Scotland for much of the week. Obviously, mild outcome for most of Europe ( apart from the Nordic countries ) has been the winner for much of this winter. Maybe the coin could flip in favour for cold for once as shown in the latest ECM run. Currently, worryingly so unseasonably warm in the Alps. Defo need to see cold ❄ on the horizon soon. Rock on UK ! Expecting some surprises in the models over the weekend ! C
  23. Morning all. UKMO charts for tomorrow shows a bit of resistance against the milder incursion. Will be a cold day across the North with temp struggling to get above freezing , say north of the Humber.Could be a fair bit of snow, especially above 200m. Looking further a head , GFS op seems to be on warm crusade presently but generally against its own mean runs .. Of course could be on the money ? The longer term trends seem to be a rise in pressure to the east. C
  24. Ali1977 Quite possible. I think snow could lie for a time Birmingham -Peterborough on Thursday morning before the Arctic air is replaced. However, with the Northern Limit shown to be a bit further south could indicate doubt in the battle zone perimeters. C
